³⁴ And they will ^(A)mock him and ^(B)spit on him, and flog him and kill him. And ^(C)after three days he will rise.”

^65 (A)And some began ^(B)to spit on him and ^(C)to cover his face and to strike him, saying to him, “Prophesy!” And the guards received him ^(D)with blows.

⁶⁷ Then ^(A)they spit in his face ^(B)and ^(C)struck him. And some slapped him,

Jesus Foretells His Death and Resurrection

^21 (A)From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that ^(B)he must go to Jerusalem and ^(C)suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on ^(D)the third day be raised.

⁴ that he was buried, that he was raised ^(A)on the third day ^(B)in accordance with the Scriptures,

¹⁰ and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now.”

¹⁷ For ^(A)the law was given through Moses; ^(B)grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

³⁵ And ^(A)the people stood by, watching, ^(B)but ^(C)the rulers ^(D)scoffed at him, saying, ^(E)“He saved others; ^(F)let him save himself, ^(G)if he is ^(H)the Christ of God, ^(I)his Chosen One!” ³⁶ The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and ^(J)offering him sour wine ³⁷ and saying, ^(K)“If you are ^(L)the King of the Jews, save yourself!” ^38 (M)There was also an inscription over him,^[a] “This is ^(N)the King of the Jews.”

^39 (O)One of the criminals who were hanged ^(P)railed at him,^[b] saying, “Are you not ^(Q)the Christ? Save yourself and us!”

¹¹ And Herod with his soldiers ^(A)treated him with contempt and ^(B)mocked him. Then, ^(C)arraying him in splendid clothing, he sent him back to Pilate.
