11 And they asked him, saying, Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first? 12 He answered and said to them, Indeed, Elijah does first come, and restore all things. And also the Son of man, as it is written, will suffer many things, and will be rejected. 13 Moreover I say to you that Elijah has come, and they have done to him whatsoever pleased them, as it is written of him.

11 And they asked him, “Why do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?”
12 Jesus replied, “To be sure, Elijah does come first, and restores all things. Why then is it written that the Son of Man(A) must suffer much(B) and be rejected?(C) 13 But I tell you, Elijah has come,(D) and they have done to him everything they wished, just as it is written about him.”
