18 John said to Herod, It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife. 19 So Herodias was laying in wait for him, and would have killed him. But she could not, 20 because Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just and holy man, and gave him reverence. And he heeded him in many things, and heard him gladly.

But she was not able to, 20 because Herod feared John and protected him, knowing him to be a righteous and holy man.(B) When Herod heard John, he was greatly puzzled[a]; yet he liked to listen to him.
