16 And when the sabbath was passed, Mary Magdalene, and Mary of James, and Salome bought sweet smelling ointments, to come and to anoint Jesus [that they coming should anoint Jesus].

And full early in one of the week days, they came to the sepulchre, when the sun was risen.

And they said together, Who shall move away to us the stone from the door of the sepulchre? [And they said together, Who shall turn away to us the stone from the door of the sepulchre?]

And they beheld, and saw the stone wallowed away, for it was full great.

And they went into the sepulchre, and saw a youngling, covered with a white stole, sitting at the right half; and they were afeared.[a]

Which saith to them, Do not ye dread; ye seek Jesus of Nazareth crucified; he is risen, he is not here; lo! the place where they laid him.

But go ye, and say to his disciples, and to Peter, that he shall go before you into Galilee; there ye shall see him, as he said to you.

And they went out, and fled from the sepulchre; for dread and quaking had assailed them [for trembling and dread had assailed them], and to no man they said any thing, for they dreaded.

And Jesus rose early the first day of the week, and appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom he had cast out seven devils [of whom he had cast out seven devils].

10 And she went, and told to them that had been with him, which were wailing and weeping. [She going told to them mourning and weeping, that were with him.]

11 And they hearing that he lived, and was seen of her, believed not.

12 But after these things when twain of them wandered, he was showed in another likeness to them going into a town.[b]

13 And they went, and told to the others, and neither they believed to them. [And they going told to others, neither they believed to them.]

14 But after at the last, when the eleven sat at the meat, Jesus appeared to them, and reproved the unbelief of them, and the hardness of heart, for they believed not to them, that had seen that he was risen from death [for they believed not to these, that had seen him to have risen from dead].

15 And he said to them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to each creature.

16 Who that believeth, and is baptized, shall be safe; but he that believeth not, shall be condemned.[c]

17 And these tokens shall follow them [Forsooth these signs shall follow them], that believe. In my name they shall cast out fiends; they shall speak with new tongues;

18 they shall do away serpents; and if they drink any venom, it shall not harm them. They shall set their hands on sick men, and they shall wax whole.[d]

19 And the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven, and he sitteth on the right half of God [and sitteth on the right half of God].

20 And they went forth, and preached every where, for the Lord wrought with them, and confirmed the word with signs following. [Soothly they gone forth preached every where, the Lord working with, and confirming the word with signs following.]

Christ is risen up again. He appears to the apostles, to whom he commits the preaching of the gospel.

16 And when the Sabbath day was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary Jacobi, and Salome bought sweet spices so that they could come and anoint him. And early in the morning of the day after the Sabbath day, they came to the sepulchre when the sun was risen. And they said to one another, Who will roll the stone away from the opening of the sepulchre for us? But when they looked, they saw that the stone had been rolled away; for it was a very great one.

And they went into the sepulchre, and saw a young man clothed in a long white garment sitting on the right side, and they were afraid. But he said to them, Do not be afraid. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen; he is not here. Behold the place where they put him. But go your way and tell his disciples, and especially Peter. He will go before you into Galilee; there you will see him, as he said to you.

And they went out quickly and fled from the sepulchre. For they trembled and were amazed. And they did not say anything to anyone, because they were afraid.

After Jesus had risen on the day after the Sabbath day, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils. 10 And she went and told those who had been with him, as they mourned and wept. 11 And though they heard that he was alive and he had appeared to her, yet they did not believe it.

12 After that, he appeared to two of them as a stranger when they were walking and going into the country. 13 And they went and told it to the rest, but they did not believe them either.

14 After that, he appeared to the eleven as they sat at food, and cast in their teeth their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they would not believe those who had seen him after his resurrection. 15 And he said to them, Go into all the world, and preach the glad tidings to all creatures. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved, but he who does not believe will be damned. 17 And these signs will follow those who believe: in my name they will cast out devils, and will speak with new tongues, 18 and will kill serpents. And if they drink any deadly thing, it will not hurt them. They will lay their hands on the sick and they will recover.

19 So then, when the Lord had spoken to them, he was received into heaven and sat down on the right hand of God. 20 And they went forth and preached everywhere. And the Lord worked with them, and confirmed the word with miracles that followed.

The end of the gospel
of St Mark.

16 1 Of Christ’s resurrection. 9 He appeareth to Mary Magdalene and others. 15 He sendeth his Apostles to preach. 19 His ascension.

And (A)when the Sabbath day was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Salome, bought sweet ointments, that they might come and anoint him.

Therefore early in the morning, the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulcher, when the Sun was now risen.

And they said one to another, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulcher?

And when they [a]looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away (for it was a very great one)

(B)So they went into the [b]sepulcher, and saw a young man sitting at the right side, clothed in a long white robe: and they were sore troubled.

But he said unto them, Be not so troubled: ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which hath been crucified: he is risen, he is not here: behold the place where they put him.

But go your way, and tell his disciples, and Peter, that he will go before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, (C)as he said unto you.

And they went out quickly, and fled from the sepulcher: for they trembled, and were amazed: neither said they anything to any man: for they were afraid.

[c]And when Jesus was risen again, early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, (D)out of whom he had cast seven devils:

10 And she went and told them that had been with him, which mourned and wept.

11 And when they heard that he was alive, and had appeared to her, they believed it not.

12 (E)[d]After that, he appeared unto two of them in another form, as they walked and went into the country.

13 And they went and told it to the remnant, neither believed they them.

14 (F)[e]Finally, he appeared unto the eleven as they sat together, and reproached them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him, being risen up again.

15 [f]And he said unto them, (G)Go ye into all the world, and preach the Gospel to [g]every creature.

16 He that shall believe and be baptized, shall be saved: (H)but he that will not believe, shall be damned.

17 And these tokens shall follow them that believe, (I)In my Name they shall cast out devils, and (J)shall speak with [h]new tongues,

18 (K)And shall take away serpents, and if they shall drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them: (L)they shall lay their hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

19 (M)[i]So after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received into heaven, and sat at the right hand of God.

20 And they went forth, and preached everywhere. And the (N)Lord wrought with them, and confirmed [j]the word with signs that followed. Amen.

16 And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him. And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun. 12 After that he appeared in another form unto two of them, as they walked, and went into the country. 13 And they went and told it unto the residue: neither believed they them.

14 Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen. 15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. 17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18 they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
