Jesus before Pilate
15 As soon as it was morning, the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council. They bound Jesus, led him away, and handed him over to Pilate. 2 Pilate asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” He answered him, “You say so.” 3 Then the chief priests accused him of many things. 4 Pilate asked him again, “Have you no answer? See how many charges they bring against you.” 5 But Jesus made no further reply, so that Pilate was amazed.
Pilate Hands Jesus over to Be Crucified
6 Now at the festival he used to release a prisoner for them, anyone for whom they asked. 7 Now a man called Barabbas was in prison with the rebels who had committed murder during the insurrection. 8 So the crowd came and began to ask Pilate to do for them according to his custom. 9 Then he answered them, “Do you want me to release for you the King of the Jews?” 10 For he realized that it was out of jealousy that the chief priests had handed him over. 11 But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have him release Barabbas for them instead. 12 Pilate spoke to them again, “Then what do you wish me to do[a] with the man you call[b] the King of the Jews?” 13 They shouted back, “Crucify him!” 14 Pilate asked them, “Why, what evil has he done?” But they shouted all the more, “Crucify him!” 15 So Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, released Barabbas for them; and after flogging Jesus, he handed him over to be crucified.
The Soldiers Mock Jesus
16 Then the soldiers led him into the courtyard of the palace (that is, the governor’s headquarters[c]); and they called together the whole cohort. 17 And they clothed him in a purple cloak; and after twisting some thorns into a crown, they put it on him. 18 And they began saluting him, “Hail, King of the Jews!” 19 They struck his head with a reed, spat upon him, and knelt down in homage to him. 20 After mocking him, they stripped him of the purple cloak and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him out to crucify him.
The Crucifixion of Jesus
21 They compelled a passer-by, who was coming in from the country, to carry his cross; it was Simon of Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus. 22 Then they brought Jesus[d] to the place called Golgotha (which means the place of a skull). 23 And they offered him wine mixed with myrrh; but he did not take it. 24 And they crucified him, and divided his clothes among them, casting lots to decide what each should take.
25 It was nine o’clock in the morning when they crucified him. 26 The inscription of the charge against him read, “The King of the Jews.” 27 And with him they crucified two bandits, one on his right and one on his left.[e] 29 Those who passed by derided[f] him, shaking their heads and saying, “Aha! You who would destroy the temple and build it in three days, 30 save yourself, and come down from the cross!” 31 In the same way the chief priests, along with the scribes, were also mocking him among themselves and saying, “He saved others; he cannot save himself. 32 Let the Messiah,[g] the King of Israel, come down from the cross now, so that we may see and believe.” Those who were crucified with him also taunted him.
The Death of Jesus
33 When it was noon, darkness came over the whole land[h] until three in the afternoon. 34 At three o’clock Jesus cried out with a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”[i] 35 When some of the bystanders heard it, they said, “Listen, he is calling for Elijah.” 36 And someone ran, filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on a stick, and gave it to him to drink, saying, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to take him down.” 37 Then Jesus gave a loud cry and breathed his last. 38 And the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. 39 Now when the centurion, who stood facing him, saw that in this way he[j] breathed his last, he said, “Truly this man was God’s Son!”[k]
40 There were also women looking on from a distance; among them were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joses, and Salome. 41 These used to follow him and provided for him when he was in Galilee; and there were many other women who had come up with him to Jerusalem.
The Burial of Jesus
42 When evening had come, and since it was the day of Preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath, 43 Joseph of Arimathea, a respected member of the council, who was also himself waiting expectantly for the kingdom of God, went boldly to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. 44 Then Pilate wondered if he were already dead; and summoning the centurion, he asked him whether he had been dead for some time. 45 When he learned from the centurion that he was dead, he granted the body to Joseph. 46 Then Joseph[l] bought a linen cloth, and taking down the body,[m] wrapped it in the linen cloth, and laid it in a tomb that had been hewn out of the rock. He then rolled a stone against the door of the tomb. 47 Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses saw where the body[n] was laid.

2 Pilato gli domandò: «Sei tu il re dei Giudei?» Gesù gli rispose: «Tu lo dici». 3 I capi dei sacerdoti lo accusavano di molte cose; 4 e Pilato di nuovo lo interrogò dicendo: «Non rispondi nulla? Vedi di quante cose ti accusano![a]» 5 Ma Gesù non rispose più nulla; e Pilato se ne meravigliava.

16 Allora i soldati lo condussero nel cortile interno, cioè dentro il pretorio, e radunarono tutta la coorte. 17 Lo vestirono di porpora e, dopo aver intrecciata una corona di spine, gliela misero sul capo 18 e cominciarono a salutarlo: «Salve, re dei Giudei!» 19 E gli percuotevano il capo con una canna, gli sputavano addosso e, mettendosi in ginocchio, si prostravano davanti a lui[f]. 20 Dopo averlo schernito, lo spogliarono della porpora, lo rivestirono delle sue vesti e lo condussero fuori per crocifiggerlo.
La crocifissione di Gesù
21 (C)Costrinsero a portare la croce di lui un certo Simone di Cirene, padre di Alessandro e di Rufo, che passava di là tornando dai campi. 22 E condussero Gesù al luogo detto Golgota, che tradotto vuol dire «luogo del teschio». 23 Gli diedero [da bere] del vino mescolato con mirra, ma non ne prese.
24 Poi lo crocifissero e si divisero[g] le sue vesti, tirandole a sorte per sapere quello che ciascuno dovesse prendere. 25 Era l’ora terza[h] quando lo crocifissero.
26 L’iscrizione indicante il motivo della condanna diceva: «Il re dei Giudei».
27 Con lui crocifissero due ladroni, uno alla sua destra e l’altro alla sua sinistra. 28 [E si adempì la Scrittura che dice: «Egli è stato contato fra i malfattori»[i].]
29 (D)Quelli che passavano di là lo insultavano, scuotendo il capo e dicendo: «Eh, tu che distruggi il tempio e lo ricostruisci in tre giorni, 30 salva te stesso e scendi giù dalla croce!» 31 Allo stesso modo anche i capi dei sacerdoti con gli scribi, beffandosi, dicevano l’uno all’altro: «Ha salvato altri e non può salvare se stesso. 32 Il Cristo, il re d’Israele, scenda ora dalla croce, affinché vediamo e crediamo![j]» Anche quelli che erano stati crocifissi con lui lo insultavano.
33 (E)Venuta l’ora sesta[k], si fecero tenebre su tutto il paese[l] fino all’ora nona[m]. 34 All’ora nona Gesù gridò a gran voce [, dicendo]: «Eloì, Eloì, lamà sabactàni?», che, tradotto, vuol dire: «Dio mio, Dio mio, perché mi hai abbandonato?»[n] 35 Alcuni dei presenti, udito ciò, dicevano: «Chiama Elia!» 36 Uno di loro corse e, dopo aver inzuppato d’aceto una spugna, la pose in cima a una canna e gli diede da bere, dicendo: «Aspettate, vediamo se Elia viene a farlo scendere».
37 Gesù, emesso un gran grido, rese lo spirito.
38 E la cortina del tempio si squarciò in due, da cima a fondo.
39 E il centurione che era lì presente di fronte a Gesù, avendolo visto spirare in quel modo[o], disse: «Veramente quest’uomo era Figlio di Dio!»
40 Vi erano pure delle donne che guardavano da lontano. Tra di loro vi erano anche Maria Maddalena, Maria, madre di Giacomo il minore e di Iose, e Salome[p], 41 che, mentre egli era in Galilea, lo seguivano e lo servivano, e molte altre che erano salite con lui a Gerusalemme.
Il seppellimento di Gesù
42 (F)Essendo già sera (poiché era la Preparazione, cioè la vigilia del sabato), 43 venne Giuseppe d’Arimatea, illustre membro del Consiglio, il quale aspettava anch’egli il regno di Dio; e, fattosi coraggio, si presentò a Pilato e chiese il corpo di Gesù. 44 Pilato si meravigliò che fosse già morto; e, chiamato il centurione, gli domandò se fosse morto da molto tempo; 45 avutane conferma dal centurione, diede il corpo[q] a Giuseppe. 46 Questi, comprato un lenzuolo e tratto Gesù giù dalla croce, lo avvolse nel lenzuolo e lo pose in una tomba scavata nella roccia; poi rotolò una pietra contro l’apertura del sepolcro. 47 E Maria Maddalena e Maria, madre di Iose, stavano a guardare dove veniva messo.

15 Und gleich in der Frühe fassten die obersten Priester mit den Ältesten und Schriftgelehrten und dem ganzen Hohen Rat einen Beschluss und führten Jesus gebunden hin und lieferten ihn dem Pilatus aus.
2 Und Pilatus fragte ihn: Bist du der König der Juden? Er aber antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Du sagst es!
3 Und die obersten Priester brachten viele Anklagen gegen ihn vor. Er aber antwortete ihnen nichts.
4 Pilatus aber fragte ihn wieder und sprach: Antwortest du nichts? Sieh, wie viele Dinge sie gegen dich aussagen!
5 Jesus aber antwortete nichts mehr, sodass sich Pilatus verwunderte.
Die Verurteilung Jesu durch die Volksmenge
6 Aber anlässlich des Festes pflegte er ihnen einen Gefangenen freizugeben, welchen sie wollten.
7 Es lag aber ein gewisser Barabbas gefangen samt den Mitaufrührern, die im Aufruhr einen Mord begangen hatten.
8 Und die Menge erhob ein Geschrei und fing an, das zu verlangen, was er ihnen jedes Mal gewährt hatte.
9 Pilatus aber antwortete ihnen und sprach: Wollt ihr, dass ich euch den König der Juden freigebe?
10 Denn er wusste, dass die obersten Priester ihn aus Neid ausgeliefert hatten.
11 Aber die obersten Priester wiegelten die Volksmenge auf, dass er ihnen lieber den Barabbas losgeben solle.
12 Und Pilatus antwortete und sprach wiederum zu ihnen: Was wollt ihr nun, dass ich mit dem tue, den ihr König der Juden nennt?
13 Sie aber schrien wiederum: Kreuzige ihn!
14 Und Pilatus sprach zu ihnen: Was hat er denn Böses getan? Da schrien sie noch viel mehr: Kreuzige ihn!
15 Weil nun Pilatus die Menge befriedigen wollte, gab er ihnen den Barabbas frei und übergab Jesus, nachdem er ihn hatte auspeitschen lassen, damit er gekreuzigt werde.
Verspottung und Dornenkrone
16 Da führten ihn die Kriegsknechte hinein in den Hof, das ist das Prätorium[a]; und sie riefen die ganze Schar zusammen,
17 legten ihm einen Purpur[mantel] um, flochten eine Dornenkrone und setzten sie ihm auf.
18 Und sie fingen an, ihn zu grüßen: Sei gegrüßt, König der Juden!
19 Und sie schlugen sein Haupt mit einem Rohr, spuckten ihn an, beugten die Knie und fielen vor ihm nieder.
20 Und nachdem sie ihn verspottet hatten, zogen sie ihm den Purpur[mantel] aus und legten ihm seine eigenen Kleider an. Und sie führten ihn hinaus, um ihn zu kreuzigen.
Die Kreuzigung Jesu
21 Und sie zwangen einen Vorübergehenden, der vom Feld kam, Simon von Kyrene, den Vater von Alexander und Rufus, ihm das Kreuz zu tragen.
22 Und sie brachten ihn auf den Platz Golgatha, das heißt übersetzt »Schädelstätte«.
23 Und sie gaben ihm Myrrhenwein zu trinken, aber er nahm ihn nicht.

32 Der Christus, der König von Israel, steige nun vom Kreuz herab, damit wir sehen und glauben! Auch die, welche mit ihm gekreuzigt wurden, schmähten ihn.
Der Tod Jesu
33 Als aber die sechste Stunde anbrach, kam eine Finsternis über das ganze Land bis zur neunten Stunde.
34 Und um die neunte Stunde rief Jesus mit lauter Stimme und sprach: Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? Das heißt übersetzt: »Mein Gott, mein Gott, warum hast du mich verlassen?«[c]
35 Und etliche der Umstehenden, die es hörten, sprachen: Siehe, er ruft den Elia!
36 Einer aber lief und füllte einen Schwamm mit Essig und steckte ihn auf ein Rohr, gab ihm zu trinken und sprach: Halt! Lasst uns sehen, ob Elia kommt, um ihn herabzunehmen!
37 Jesus aber stieß einen lauten Schrei aus und verschied.
38 Und der Vorhang im Tempel riss von oben bis unten entzwei.
39 Als aber der Hauptmann, der ihm gegenüberstand, sah, dass er so schrie und verschied, sprach er: Wahrhaftig, dieser Mensch war Gottes Sohn!
40 Es sahen aber auch Frauen von ferne zu, unter ihnen waren auch Maria Magdalena und Maria, die Mutter des jüngeren Jakobus und des Joses, sowie Salome,
41 die ihm auch, als er in Galiläa war, nachgefolgt waren und ihm gedient hatten, und viele andere, die mit ihm nach Jerusalem hinaufgezogen waren.
Die Grablegung Jesu
42 Und als es schon Abend geworden war (es war nämlich Rüsttag, das ist der Tag vor dem Sabbat),
43 da kam Joseph von Arimathia, ein angesehener Ratsherr[d], der selbst auch auf das Reich Gottes wartete; der wagte es, ging zu Pilatus hinein und bat um den Leib Jesu.
44 Pilatus aber wunderte sich, dass er schon gestorben sein sollte, und er ließ den Hauptmann herbeirufen und fragte ihn, ob er schon lange gestorben sei.
45 Und als er es von dem Hauptmann erfahren hatte, überließ er dem Joseph den Leib.
46 Da kaufte dieser Leinwand und nahm ihn herab, wickelte ihn in die Leinwand und legte ihn in ein Grab, das in einen Felsen gehauen war; und er wälzte einen Stein vor den Eingang des Grabes.
47 Maria Magdalena aber und Maria, die Mutter des Joses, sahen, wo er hingelegt wurde.

Jézus Pilátus előtt(A)
15 Korán reggel haladéktalanul határozatot hoztak a főpapok a vénekkel, az írástudókkal és az egész nagytanáccsal együtt. Azután Jézust megkötözve elvitték, és átadták Pilátusnak.
2 Pilátus pedig megkérdezte tőle: "Te vagy a zsidók királya?" Ő így válaszolt neki: "Te mondod."
3 A főpapok hevesen vádolták őt.
4 Pilátus ismét megkérdezte tőle: "Nem felelsz semmit? Nézd, mennyire vádolnak!"

Jézus és Barabbás(B)
6 Ünnepenként el szokott bocsátani nekik egy foglyot, akit ők kívántak.
7 Barabbás is fogságban volt azokkal a lázadókkal együtt, akik a lázadás idején gyilkosságot követtek el.
8 A sokaság tehát felmenve Pilátus elé, kérte tőle azt, amit mindig megtett nekik.
9 Ő pedig megkérdezte tőlük: "Akarjátok, hogy elbocsássam nektek a zsidók királyát?" -
10 mert tudta, hogy irigységből szolgáltatták ki Jézust a főpapok.

46 Ő pedig gyolcsot vásárolt, levette őt, begöngyölte a gyolcsba, elhelyezte egy sziklába vágott sírboltba, és követ hengerített a sírbolt bejárata elé.
47 A magdalai Mária és Mária, a József anyja pedig figyelte, hova helyezték őt.

Jésus devant Pilate(A)
15 Dès l’aube, les chefs des prêtres tinrent conseil avec les responsables du peuple, les spécialistes de la Loi, et tout le Grand-Conseil[a]. Ils firent enchaîner Jésus, l’emmenèrent et le remirent entre les mains de Pilate.
2 Pilate l’interrogea : Es-tu le roi des Juifs ?
– Tu le dis toi-même, lui répondit Jésus.
3 Les chefs des prêtres portèrent contre lui de nombreuses accusations.
4 Pilate l’interrogea de nouveau et lui dit : Eh bien ! Tu ne réponds rien ? Tu as entendu toutes les accusations qu’ils portent contre toi ?
5 Mais, au grand étonnement de Pilate, Jésus ne répondit plus rien. 6 A chaque fête de la Pâque, Pilate relâchait un prisonnier, celui que le peuple réclamait. 7 Or, à ce moment-là, il y avait sous les verrous le nommé Barabbas avec les agitateurs qui avaient commis un meurtre au cours d’une émeute. 8 La foule monta donc au prétoire et se mit à réclamer la faveur que le gouverneur lui accordait d’habitude.
9 Pilate répondit : Voulez-vous que je vous relâche le roi des Juifs ?
10 Il s’était rendu compte, en effet, que les chefs des prêtres lui avaient livré Jésus par jalousie. 11 Mais les chefs des prêtres persuadèrent la foule de demander qu’il libère plutôt Barabbas.
12 – Mais alors, insista Pilate, que voulez-vous donc que je fasse de celui que vous appelez le roi des Juifs ?
13 De nouveau, ils crièrent : Crucifie-le !
14 – Qu’a-t-il fait de mal ?
Eux, cependant, crièrent de plus en plus fort : Crucifie-le !
15 Alors Pilate, voulant donner satisfaction à la foule, leur relâcha Barabbas et, après avoir fait battre Jésus à coups de fouet, il le livra pour qu’on le crucifie.
Jésus condamné à mort et crucifié(B)
16 Les soldats emmenèrent Jésus dans la cour intérieure du palais et firent venir toute la cohorte. 17 Alors ils le revêtirent d’un manteau de couleur pourpre[b] et lui posèrent une couronne tressée de rameaux épineux. 18 Puis ils le saluèrent en disant : Salut, roi des Juifs !
19 Ils le frappaient à la tête avec un roseau et crachaient sur lui, s’agenouillaient et se prosternaient devant lui.
20 Quand ils eurent fini de se moquer de lui, ils lui arrachèrent le manteau de couleur pourpre, lui remirent ses vêtements et l’emmenèrent hors de la ville pour le crucifier.

21 Ils obligèrent un passant qui revenait des champs, Simon de Cyrène, le père d’Alexandre et de Rufus, à porter la croix de Jésus. 22 Et ils amenèrent Jésus au lieu appelé Golgotha (ce qui signifie « le lieu du crâne »). 23 Ils lui donnèrent du vin additionné de myrrhe[c], mais il n’en prit pas. 24 Ils le clouèrent sur la croix. Puis ils se partagèrent ses vêtements, en tirant au sort ce qui reviendrait à chacun.
25 Il était environ neuf heures du matin quand ils le crucifièrent.
26 L’écriteau sur lequel était inscrit le motif de sa condamnation portait ces mots : « Le roi des Juifs ».
27 Avec Jésus, ils crucifièrent deux brigands, l’un à sa droite, l’autre à sa gauche[d].
29 Ceux qui passaient par là lui lançaient des insultes en secouant la tête, et criaient : Hé ! toi qui démolis le Temple et qui le reconstruis en trois jours, 30 sauve-toi toi-même : descends de la croix !
31 De même aussi, les chefs des prêtres se moquaient de lui avec les spécialistes de la Loi ; ils se disaient entre eux : Dire qu’il a sauvé les autres, et qu’il est incapable de se sauver lui-même ! 32 Lui ! Le Messie ! Le roi d’Israël ! Qu’il descende donc de la croix ; alors nous verrons, et nous croirons !
Ceux qui étaient crucifiés avec lui l’insultaient aussi.
La mort de Jésus(C)
33 A midi, le pays tout entier fut plongé dans l’obscurité, et cela dura jusqu’à trois heures de l’après-midi.
34 Vers trois heures, Jésus cria d’une voix forte : Eloï, Eloï, lama sabachthani ? ce qui signifie : Mon Dieu, mon Dieu, pourquoi m’as-tu abandonné[e] ?
35 En entendant ces paroles, quelques-uns de ceux qui étaient là disaient : Voilà qu’il appelle Elie !
36 Un homme courut imbiber une éponge de vinaigre, la piqua au bout d’un roseau et la présenta à Jésus pour qu’il boive, en disant : Laissez-moi faire ! On va bien voir si Elie vient le tirer de là.
37 Mais Jésus poussa un grand cri et expira.
38 Alors, le rideau du Temple se déchira en deux, de haut en bas.
39 Voyant de quelle manière il était mort[f], l’officier romain, qui se tenait en face de Jésus, dit : Cet homme était vraiment le Fils de Dieu !
40 Il y avait aussi là quelques femmes qui regardaient de loin. Parmi elles, Marie de Magdala, Marie la mère de Jacques le Jeune et de Joses, ainsi que Salomé. 41 Quand il était en Galilée, c’étaient elles qui l’avaient suivi en étant à son service. Il y avait aussi beaucoup d’autres femmes qui étaient montées avec lui à Jérusalem.
Jésus mis au tombeau(D)
42 Le soir venu – c’était le jour de la préparation, c’est-à-dire la veille du sabbat – 43 Joseph d’Arimathée arriva. C’était un membre éminent du Grand-Conseil qui, lui aussi, vivait dans l’attente du royaume de Dieu. Il eut le courage de se rendre chez Pilate pour lui demander le corps de Jésus. 44 Pilate fut surpris d’apprendre que Jésus était déjà mort. Il fit appeler l’officier de service et lui demanda s’il était mort depuis longtemps. 45 Renseigné par le centurion, il autorisa Joseph à disposer du corps. 46 Celui-ci, après avoir acheté un drap de lin, descendit le corps de la croix, l’enveloppa dans le drap et le déposa dans un tombeau taillé dans le roc. Puis il roula un bloc de pierre devant l’entrée du tombeau.
47 Marie de Magdala et Marie, mère de Joses, regardaient où il le mettait.
