Institution of the Lord's Supper

26 (A)Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and (B)after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; (C)this is my body.” 27 And he took a cup, and when he (D)had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you, 28 for (E)this is my (F)blood of the[a] covenant, which is poured out for (G)many (H)for the forgiveness of sins. 29 I tell you I will not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you (I)in my Father's kingdom.”

Jesus Foretells Peter's Denial

30 (J)And when they had sung a hymn, (K)they went out to (L)the Mount of Olives. 31 Then Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away because of me this night. For it is written, ‘I will (M)strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’ 32 But after I am raised up, (N)I will go before you to Galilee.” 33 (O)Peter answered him, “Though they all fall away because of you, I will never fall away.” 34 (P)Jesus said to him, “Truly, I tell you, this very night, (Q)before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.” 35 (R)Peter said to him, “Even if I must die with you, I will not deny you!” And all the disciples said the same.

15 And he said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. 16 For I tell you I will not eat it[a] (A)until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” 17 And he took a cup, and (B)when he had given thanks he said, “Take this, and divide it among yourselves. 18 (C)For I tell you that from now on I will not drink of the fruit of the vine (D)until the kingdom of God comes.” 19 (E)And he took bread, and (F)when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, (G)“This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” 20 And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, (H)“This cup that is poured out for you is (I)the new (J)covenant in my blood.[b]

Jesus Foretells Peter's Denial

31 “Simon, Simon, behold, (A)Satan demanded to have you,[a] (B)that he might sift you like wheat, 32 but (C)I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, (D)strengthen your brothers.” 33 Peter[b] said to him, “Lord, I am ready to go with you both (E)to prison and (F)to death.” 34 (G)Jesus[c] said, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow this day, until you deny three times that you know me.”

Scripture Must Be Fulfilled in Jesus

35 And he said to them, (H)“When I sent you out with no moneybag or knapsack or sandals, did you lack anything?” They said, “Nothing.” 36 He said to them, “But now let the one who has a moneybag take it, and likewise a knapsack. And let the one who has no sword sell his cloak and buy one. 37 For I tell you that (I)this Scripture must be fulfilled in me: (J)‘And he was numbered with the transgressors.’ For (K)what is written about me has its fulfillment.” 38 And they said, “Look, Lord, here are two (L)swords.” And he said to them, (M)“It is enough.”

A New Commandment

31 When he had gone out, Jesus said, (A)“Now is the Son of Man glorified, and (B)God is glorified in him. 32 If God is glorified in him, (C)God will also glorify him in himself, and (D)glorify him at once. 33 Little children, (E)yet a little while I am with you. You will seek me, and just (F)as I said to the Jews, so now I also say to you, ‘Where I am going you cannot come.’ 34 (G)A new commandment (H)I give to you, (I)that you love one another: (J)just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. 35 (K)By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Jesus Foretells Peter's Denial

36 Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, where are you going?” (L)Jesus answered him, “Where I am going (M)you cannot follow me now, (N)but you will follow afterward.” 37 (O)Peter said to him, “Lord, why can I not follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.” 38 Jesus answered, “Will you lay down your life for me? Truly, truly, I say to you, (P)the rooster will not crow till you have denied me three times.

I Am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life

14 (Q)“Let not your hearts be troubled. (R)Believe in God;[a] believe also in me. In (S)my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that (T)I go to prepare a place for you?[b] And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you (U)to myself, that (V)where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.”[c] (W)Thomas said to him, “Lord, (X)we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am (Y)the way, and (Z)the truth, and (AA)the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (AB)If you had known me, you would have (AC)known my Father also.[d] From now on you do know him and (AD)have seen him.”

(AE)Philip said to him, “Lord, (AF)show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? (AG)Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that (AH)I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you (AI)I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works. 11 Believe me that (AJ)I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else (AK)believe on account of the works themselves.

12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, (AL)whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I (AM)am going to the Father. 13 (AN)Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that (AO)the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 (AP)If you ask me[e] anything in my name, I will do it.

Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit

15 (AQ)“If you love me, you will (AR)keep my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another (AS)Helper,[f] to be with you forever, 17 even (AT)the Spirit of truth, (AU)whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and (AV)will be[g] in you.

18 “I will not leave you as orphans; (AW)I will come to you. 19 (AX)Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but (AY)you will see me. (AZ)Because I live, you also will live. 20 (BA)In that day you will know that (BB)I am in my Father, and (BC)you in me, and (BD)I in you. 21 (BE)Whoever has my commandments and (BF)keeps them, he it is who loves me. And (BG)he who loves me (BH)will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and (BI)manifest myself to him.” 22 (BJ)Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, “Lord, how is it (BK)that you will manifest yourself to us, and not to the world?” 23 Jesus answered him, (BL)“If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and (BM)we will come to him and (BN)make our home with him. 24 Whoever does not love me does not keep my words. And (BO)the word that you hear is not mine but the Father's who sent me.

25 “These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. 26 But the (BP)Helper, the Holy Spirit, (BQ)whom the Father will send in my name, (BR)he will teach you all things and (BS)bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. 27 (BT)Peace I leave with you; (BU)my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. (BV)Let not your hearts be troubled, neither (BW)let them be afraid. 28 (BX)You heard me say to you, (BY)‘I am going away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I (BZ)am going to the Father, for (CA)the Father is greater than I. 29 And (CB)now I have told you before it takes place, so that when it does take place you may believe. 30 I will no longer talk much with you, for (CC)the ruler of this world is coming. (CD)He has no claim on me, 31 but I do (CE)as the Father has commanded me, (CF)so that the world may know that I love the Father. Rise, let us go from here.
