Dios Habla Hoy

Lo que hace impuro al hombre(A)

7 Se acercaron los fariseos a Jesús, con unos maestros de la ley que habían llegado de Jerusalén. 2 Éstos, al ver que algunos discípulos de Jesús comían con las manos impuras, es decir, sin haber cumplido con la ceremonia de lavárselas, los criticaron. 3 (Porque los fariseos y todos los judíos siguen la tradición de sus antepasados, de no comer sin antes lavarse las manos debidamente. 4 Y cuando regresan del mercado, no comen sin antes cumplir con la ceremonia de lavarse. Y aun tienen otras muchas costumbres, como lavar los vasos, los jarros, las vasijas de metal y las camas.) 5 Por eso, los fariseos y los maestros de la ley le preguntaron:

—¿Por qué tus discípulos no siguen la tradición de nuestros antepasados, sino que comen con las manos impuras?

6 Jesús les contestó:

—Bien habló el profeta Isaías acerca de lo hipócritas que son ustedes, cuando escribió:

“Este pueblo me honra con la boca,
pero su corazón está lejos de mí.
7 De nada sirve que me rinda culto:
sus enseñanzas son mandatos de hombres.”

8 Porque ustedes dejan el mandato de Dios para seguir las tradiciones de los hombres.

9 También les dijo:

—Para mantener sus propias tradiciones, ustedes pasan por alto el mandato de Dios. 10 Pues Moisés dijo: “Honra a tu padre y a tu madre”, y “El que maldiga a su padre o a su madre, será condenado a muerte.” 11 Pero ustedes afirman que un hombre puede decirle a su padre o a su madre: “No puedo ayudarte, porque todo lo que tengo es corbán” (es decir: «ofrecido a Dios»); 12 y también afirman que quien dice esto ya no está obligado a ayudar a su padre o a su madre. 13 De esta manera ustedes anulan la palabra de Dios con esas tradiciones que se trasmiten unos a otros. Y hacen otras muchas cosas parecidas.

14 Luego Jesús llamó a la gente, y dijo:

—Escúchenme todos, y entiendan: 15 Nada de lo que entra de afuera puede hacer impuro al hombre. Lo que sale del corazón del hombre es lo que lo hace impuro.

17 Cuando Jesús dejó a la gente y entró en la casa, sus discípulos le preguntaron sobre esta enseñanza. 18 Él les dijo:

—¿Así que ustedes tampoco lo comprenden? ¿No entienden que nada de lo que entra de afuera puede hacer impuro al hombre, 19 porque no entra en el corazón, sino en el vientre, para después salir del cuerpo?

Con esto quiso decir que todos los alimentos son limpios. 20 Dijo también:

—Lo que sale del hombre, eso sí lo hace impuro. 21 Porque de adentro, es decir, del corazón de los hombres, salen los malos pensamientos, la inmoralidad sexual, los robos, los asesinatos, 22 los adulterios, la codicia, las maldades, el engaño, los vicios, la envidia, los chismes, el orgullo y la falta de juicio. 23 Todas estas cosas malas salen de adentro y hacen impuro al hombre.

La fe de una mujer no judía(B)

24 De allí se dirigió Jesús a la región de Tiro. Entró en una casa, sin querer que nadie lo supiera; pero no pudo esconderse. 25 Pronto supo de él la madre de una muchacha que tenía un espíritu impuro, la cual fue y se arrodilló a los pies de Jesús. 26 La mujer no era judía, sino originaria de Sirofenicia. Fue, pues, y rogó a Jesús que expulsara de su hija al demonio. 27 Pero Jesús le dijo:

—Deja que los hijos coman primero, porque no está bien quitarles el pan a los hijos y dárselo a los perros.

28 Ella le respondió:

—Pero, Señor, hasta los perros comen debajo de la mesa las migajas que dejan caer los hijos.

29 Jesús le dijo:

—Por haber hablado así, vete tranquila. El demonio ya ha salido de tu hija.

30 Cuando la mujer llegó a su casa, encontró a la niña en la cama; el demonio ya había salido de ella.

Jesús sana a un sordo y tartamudo

31 Jesús volvió a salir de la región de Tiro y, pasando por Sidón, llegó al Lago de Galilea, en pleno territorio de Decápolis. 32 Allí le llevaron un sordo y tartamudo, y le pidieron que pusiera su mano sobre él. 33 Jesús se lo llevó a un lado, aparte de la gente, le metió los dedos en los oídos y con saliva le tocó la lengua. 34 Luego, mirando al cielo, suspiró y dijo al hombre: «¡Efatá!» (es decir: «¡Ábrete!»)

35 Al momento, los oídos del sordo se abrieron, y se le desató la lengua y pudo hablar bien. 36 Jesús les mandó que no se lo dijeran a nadie; pero cuanto más se lo mandaba, tanto más lo contaban. 37 Llenos de admiración, decían: «Todo lo hace bien. ¡Hasta puede hacer que los sordos oigan y que los mudos hablen!»

Lo que contamina al hombre

(Mt. 15.1-20)

7 Se juntaron a Jesús los fariseos, y algunos de los escribas, que habían venido de Jerusalén; 2 los cuales, viendo a algunos de los discípulos de Jesús comer pan con manos inmundas, esto es, no lavadas, los condenaban. 3 Porque los fariseos y todos los judíos, aferrándose a la tradición de los ancianos, si muchas veces no se lavan las manos, no comen. 4 Y volviendo de la plaza, si no se lavan, no comen. Y otras muchas cosas hay que tomaron para guardar, como los lavamientos de los vasos de beber, y de los jarros, y de los utensilios de metal, y de los lechos. 5 Le preguntaron, pues, los fariseos y los escribas: ¿Por qué tus discípulos no andan conforme a la tradición de los ancianos, sino que comen pan con manos inmundas? 6 Respondiendo él, les dijo: Hipócritas, bien profetizó de vosotros Isaías, como está escrito:

Este pueblo de labios me honra,

Mas su corazón está lejos de mí.

7 Pues en vano me honran,

Enseñando como doctrinas mandamientos de hombres.(A)

8 Porque dejando el mandamiento de Dios, os aferráis a la tradición de los hombres: los lavamientos de los jarros y de los vasos de beber; y hacéis otras muchas cosas semejantes.

9 Les decía también: Bien invalidáis el mandamiento de Dios para guardar vuestra tradición. 10 Porque Moisés dijo: Honra a tu padre y a tu madre;(B) y: El que maldiga al padre o a la madre, muera irremisiblemente.(C) 11 Pero vosotros decís: Basta que diga un hombre al padre o a la madre: Es Corbán (que quiere decir, mi ofrenda a Dios) todo aquello con que pudiera ayudarte, 12 y no le dejáis hacer más por su padre o por su madre, 13 invalidando la palabra de Dios con vuestra tradición que habéis transmitido. Y muchas cosas hacéis semejantes a estas.

14 Y llamando a sí a toda la multitud, les dijo: Oídme todos, y entended: 15 Nada hay fuera del hombre que entre en él, que le pueda contaminar; pero lo que sale de él, eso es lo que contamina al hombre. 16 Si alguno tiene oídos para oír, oiga. 17 Cuando se alejó de la multitud y entró en casa, le preguntaron sus discípulos sobre la parábola. 18 Él les dijo: ¿También vosotros estáis así sin entendimiento? ¿No entendéis que todo lo de fuera que entra en el hombre, no le puede contaminar, 19 porque no entra en su corazón, sino en el vientre, y sale a la letrina? Esto decía, haciendo limpios todos los alimentos. 20 Pero decía, que lo que del hombre sale, eso contamina al hombre. 21 Porque de dentro, del corazón de los hombres, salen los malos pensamientos, los adulterios, las fornicaciones, los homicidios, 22 los hurtos, las avaricias, las maldades, el engaño, la lascivia, la envidia, la maledicencia, la soberbia, la insensatez. 23 Todas estas maldades de dentro salen, y contaminan al hombre.

La fe de la mujer sirofenicia

(Mt. 15.21-28)

24 Levantándose de allí, se fue a la región de Tiro y de Sidón; y entrando en una casa, no quiso que nadie lo supiese; pero no pudo esconderse. 25 Porque una mujer, cuya hija tenía un espíritu inmundo, luego que oyó de él, vino y se postró a sus pies. 26 La mujer era griega, y sirofenicia de nación; y le rogaba que echase fuera de su hija al demonio. 27 Pero Jesús le dijo: Deja primero que se sacien los hijos, porque no está bien tomar el pan de los hijos y echarlo a los perrillos. 28 Respondió ella y le dijo: Sí, Señor; pero aun los perrillos, debajo de la mesa, comen de las migajas de los hijos. 29 Entonces le dijo: Por esta palabra, ve; el demonio ha salido de tu hija. 30 Y cuando llegó ella a su casa, halló que el demonio había salido, y a la hija acostada en la cama.

Jesús sana a un sordomudo

31 Volviendo a salir de la región de Tiro, vino por Sidón al mar de Galilea, pasando por la región de Decápolis. 32 Y le trajeron un sordo y tartamudo, y le rogaron que le pusiera la mano encima. 33 Y tomándole aparte de la gente, metió los dedos en las orejas de él, y escupiendo, tocó su lengua; 34 y levantando los ojos al cielo, gimió, y le dijo: Efata, es decir: Sé abierto. 35 Al momento fueron abiertos sus oídos, y se desató la ligadura de su lengua, y hablaba bien. 36 Y les mandó que no lo dijesen a nadie; pero cuanto más les mandaba, tanto más y más lo divulgaban. 37 Y en gran manera se maravillaban, diciendo: bien lo ha hecho todo; hace a los sordos oír, y a los mudos hablar.

God’s Law and Human Traditions(A)

7 Some Pharisees and some teachers of the law came from Jerusalem and gathered around Jesus. 2 They saw that some of his followers ate food with hands that were not clean, meaning that they did not wash their hands in a special way. 3 The Pharisees and all the other Jews never eat before washing their hands in this special way. They do this to follow the traditions they have from their great leaders who lived long ago. 4 And when these Jews buy something in the market, they never eat it until they wash it in a special way. They also follow other rules from their people who lived before them. They follow rules like the washing of cups, pitchers, and pots.[a]

5 The Pharisees and teachers of the law said to Jesus, “Your followers don’t follow the traditions we have from our great leaders who lived long ago. They eat their food with hands that are not clean. Why do they do this?”

6 Jesus answered, “You are all hypocrites. Isaiah was right when he wrote these words from God about you:

‘These people honor me with their words,
    but I am not really important to them.
7 Their worship of me is worthless.
    The things they teach are only human rules.’ (B)

8 You have stopped following God’s commands, preferring instead the man-made rules you got from others.”

9 Then he said, “You show great skill in avoiding the commands of God so that you can follow your own teachings! 10 Moses said, ‘You must respect your father and mother.’[b] He also said, ‘Whoever says anything bad to their father or mother must be killed.’[c] 11 But you teach that people can say to their father or mother, ‘I have something I could use to help you, but I will not use it for you. I will give it to God.’ 12 You are telling people that they do not have to do anything for their father or mother. 13 So you are teaching that it is not important to do what God said. You think it is more important to follow those traditions you have, which you pass on to others. And you do many things like that.”

14 Jesus called the people to him again. He said, “Everyone should listen to me and understand what I am saying. 15 There is nothing people can put in their mouth that will make them wrong.[d] People are made wrong by what comes from inside them.” 16 [e]

17 Then Jesus left the people and went into the house. The followers asked Jesus about what he had told the people. 18 He said, “Do you still have trouble understanding? Surely you know that nothing that enters the mouth from the outside can make people unacceptable to God. 19 Food does not go into a person’s mind. It goes into the stomach. Then it goes out of the body.” (When Jesus said this, he meant there is no food that is wrong for people to eat.)

20 And Jesus said, “The things that make people wrong are the things that come from the inside. 21 All these bad things begin inside a person, in the mind: bad thoughts, sexual sins, stealing, murder, 22 adultery, greed, doing bad things to people, lying, doing things that are morally wrong, jealousy, insulting people, proud talking, and foolish living. 23 These evil things come from inside a person. And these are the things that make people unacceptable to God.”

Jesus Helps a Non-Jewish Woman(C)

24 Jesus went from there to the area around Tyre. He did not want the people in that area to know he was there, so he went into a house. But he could not stay hidden. 25 A woman heard that he was there. Her little daughter had an evil spirit inside her. So the woman came to Jesus and bowed down near his feet. 26 She was not a Jew. She was born in Phoenicia, an area in Syria. She begged Jesus to force the demon out of her daughter.

27 Jesus told the woman, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and give it to the dogs. First let the children eat all they want.”

28 She answered, “That is true, Lord. But the dogs under the table can eat the pieces of food that the children don’t eat.”

29 Then he told her, “That is a very good answer. You may go. The demon has left your daughter.”

30 The woman went home and found her daughter lying on the bed. The demon was gone.

Jesus Heals a Deaf Man

31 Then Jesus left the area around Tyre and went through Sidon. On his way to Lake Galilee he went through the area of the Ten Towns. 32 While he was there, some people brought a man to him who was deaf and could not talk clearly. The people begged Jesus to put his hand on the man to heal him.

33 Jesus led the man away from the people to be alone with him. He put his fingers in the man’s ears. Then he spit on a finger and put it on the man’s tongue. 34 Jesus looked up to the sky and with a loud sigh he said, “Ephphatha!” (This means “Open!”) 35 As soon as Jesus did this, the man was able to hear. He was able to use his tongue, and he began to speak clearly.

36 Jesus told the people not to tell anyone about this. But the more he told them not to say anything, the more people they told. 37 They were all completely amazed. They said, “Look at what he has done. It’s all good. He makes deaf people able to hear and gives a new voice to people who could not talk.”

That Which Defiles(A)

7 The Pharisees and some of the teachers of the law who had come from Jerusalem gathered around Jesus 2 and saw some of his disciples eating food with hands that were defiled,(B) that is, unwashed. 3 (The Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they give their hands a ceremonial washing, holding to the tradition of the elders.(C) 4 When they come from the marketplace they do not eat unless they wash. And they observe many other traditions, such as the washing of cups, pitchers and kettles.[a])(D)

5 So the Pharisees and teachers of the law asked Jesus, “Why don’t your disciples live according to the tradition of the elders(E) instead of eating their food with defiled hands?”

6 He replied, “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written:

“‘These people honor me with their lips,
    but their hearts are far from me.
7 They worship me in vain;
    their teachings are merely human rules.’[b](F)

8 You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions.”(G)

9 And he continued, “You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe[c] your own traditions!(H) 10 For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and mother,’[d](I) and, ‘Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.’[e](J) 11 But you say(K) that if anyone declares that what might have been used to help their father or mother is Corban (that is, devoted to God)— 12 then you no longer let them do anything for their father or mother. 13 Thus you nullify the word of God(L) by your tradition(M) that you have handed down. And you do many things like that.”

14 Again Jesus called the crowd to him and said, “Listen to me, everyone, and understand this. 15 Nothing outside a person can defile them by going into them. Rather, it is what comes out of a person that defiles them.” [16] [f]

17 After he had left the crowd and entered the house, his disciples asked him(N) about this parable. 18 “Are you so dull?” he asked. “Don’t you see that nothing that enters a person from the outside can defile them? 19 For it doesn’t go into their heart but into their stomach, and then out of the body.” (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods(O) clean.)(P)

20 He went on: “What comes out of a person is what defiles them. 21 For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, 22 adultery, greed,(Q) malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. 23 All these evils come from inside and defile a person.”

Jesus Honors a Syrophoenician Woman’s Faith(R)

24 Jesus left that place and went to the vicinity of Tyre.[g](S) He entered a house and did not want anyone to know it; yet he could not keep his presence secret. 25 In fact, as soon as she heard about him, a woman whose little daughter was possessed by an impure spirit(T) came and fell at his feet. 26 The woman was a Greek, born in Syrian Phoenicia. She begged Jesus to drive the demon out of her daughter.

27 “First let the children eat all they want,” he told her, “for it is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.”

28 “Lord,” she replied, “even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.”

29 Then he told her, “For such a reply, you may go; the demon has left your daughter.”

30 She went home and found her child lying on the bed, and the demon gone.

Jesus Heals a Deaf and Mute Man(U)

31 Then Jesus left the vicinity of Tyre(V) and went through Sidon, down to the Sea of Galilee(W) and into the region of the Decapolis.[h](X) 32 There some people brought to him a man who was deaf and could hardly talk,(Y) and they begged Jesus to place his hand on(Z) him.

33 After he took him aside, away from the crowd, Jesus put his fingers into the man’s ears. Then he spit(AA) and touched the man’s tongue. 34 He looked up to heaven(AB) and with a deep sigh(AC) said to him, “Ephphatha!” (which means “Be opened!”). 35 At this, the man’s ears were opened, his tongue was loosened and he began to speak plainly.(AD)

36 Jesus commanded them not to tell anyone.(AE) But the more he did so, the more they kept talking about it. 37 People were overwhelmed with amazement. “He has done everything well,” they said. “He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”
