El endemoniado gadareno

5 (A)Llegaron al otro lado del mar, a la tierra de los gadarenos[a]. 2 Cuando Jesús salió de la barca(B), enseguida se acercó a Él, de entre los sepulcros, un hombre con un espíritu inmundo(C), 3 que tenía su morada entre los sepulcros; y nadie podía ya atarlo ni aun con cadenas; 4 porque muchas veces había sido atado con grillos y cadenas, pero él había roto las cadenas y destrozado los grillos, y nadie era tan fuerte como para dominarlo. 5 Siempre, noche y día, andaba entre los sepulcros y en los montes dando gritos e hiriéndose con piedras.

6 Cuando vio a Jesús de lejos, corrió y se postró delante de Él; 7 y gritando a gran voz, dijo*: «¿Qué tengo yo que ver contigo[b], Jesús, Hijo del Dios(D) Altísimo(E)? Te imploro por Dios que no me atormentes(F)». 8 Porque Jesús le decía: «Sal del hombre, espíritu inmundo». 9 «¿Cómo te llamas?», le preguntó Jesús. «Me llamo Legión(G)», respondió*, «porque somos muchos». 10 Le rogaba entonces con insistencia que no los enviara fuera de la tierra.

11 Había allí una gran manada de cerdos paciendo junto al monte. 12 Y los demonios le rogaron, diciendo: «Envíanos a los cerdos para que entremos en ellos». 13 Jesús les dio permiso. Y saliendo los espíritus inmundos, entraron en los cerdos; y la manada, unos 2,000, se precipitó por un despeñadero al mar, y en el mar se ahogaron[c].

14 Los que cuidaban los cerdos[d] huyeron y lo contaron en la ciudad y por los campos. Y la gente vino a ver qué era lo que había sucedido. 15 Vinieron* a Jesús, y vieron* al que había estado endemoniado(H), sentado, vestido(I) y en su cabal juicio, el mismo que había tenido la legión(J); y tuvieron miedo(K). 16 Los que lo habían visto les describieron cómo le había sucedido esto al endemoniado(L), y lo de los cerdos. 17 Y comenzaron a rogar a Jesús que se fuera de su región(M).

18 (N)Al entrar Él en la barca, el que había estado endemoniado(O) le rogaba que lo dejara ir con Él[e]. 19 Pero Jesús no se lo permitió, sino que le dijo*: «Vete a tu casa, a los tuyos, y cuéntales cuán grandes cosas[f]el Señor ha hecho por ti, y cómo tuvo misericordia de ti(P)».

20 Y él se fue, y empezó a proclamar en Decápolis(Q) cuán grandes cosas[g] Jesús había hecho por él; y todos se quedaban maravillados.

Jairo ruega por su hija

21 Cuando Jesús pasó otra vez(R) en la barca(S) al otro lado, se reunió una gran multitud alrededor de Él; así que Él se quedó[h] junto al mar(T).

22 (U)Y vino uno de los oficiales[i] de la sinagoga(V), llamado Jairo, y al ver a Jesús, se postró* a Sus pies, 23 y le rogaba* con insistencia: «Mi hijita está al borde de la muerte; te ruego que vengas y pongas las manos sobre ella(W) para que sane[j] y viva». 24 Jesús fue con él; y una gran multitud lo seguía y oprimía.

Jesús sana a una mujer

25 Había una mujer que padecía de flujo de sangre por doce años. 26 Había sufrido mucho a manos de muchos médicos, y había gastado todo lo que tenía sin provecho alguno, sino que al contrario, había empeorado.

27 Cuando ella oyó hablar de Jesús, se llegó a Él por detrás entre la multitud y tocó Su manto. 28 Porque decía[k]: «Si tan solo toco Sus ropas, sanaré[l]». 29 Al instante la fuente de su sangre se secó, y sintió en su cuerpo que estaba curada de su aflicción(X). 30 Enseguida Jesús, dándose cuenta de que había salido poder de Él(Y), volviéndose entre la gente, dijo: «¿Quién ha tocado Mi ropa?». 31 Y Sus discípulos le dijeron: «Ves que la multitud te oprime, y preguntas: “¿Quién me ha tocado?”». 32 Pero Él miraba a su alrededor para ver a la mujer que lo había tocado[m].

33 Entonces la mujer, temerosa y temblando, dándose cuenta de lo que le había sucedido, vino y se postró delante de Él y le dijo toda la verdad. 34 «Hija, tu fe te ha sanado[n](Z)», le dijo Jesús; «vete en paz(AA)y queda sana de tu aflicción(AB)».

Jesús resucita a la hija de Jairo

35 Mientras Él estaba todavía hablando, vinieron* unos enviados de la casa del oficial de la sinagoga(AC), diciendo: «Tu hija ha muerto, ¿para qué molestas aún al Maestro?». 36 Pero Jesús, oyendo lo que se hablaba, dijo* al oficial de la sinagoga(AD): «No temas, cree solamente[o](AE)».

37 Y no permitió que nadie fuera con Él sino solo Pedro, Jacobo[p] y Juan, hermano de Jacobo(AF). 38 Fueron* a la casa del oficial de la sinagoga(AG), y Jesús vio* el alboroto, y a los que lloraban y se lamentaban mucho. 39 Cuando entró les dijo*: «¿Por qué hacen alboroto y lloran? La niña no ha muerto, sino que está dormida».

40 Y se burlaban de Él. Pero echando fuera a todos, Jesús tomó* consigo al padre y a la madre de la niña, y a los que estaban con Él, y entró* donde estaba la niña. 41 Tomando a la niña por la mano, le dijo*: «Talita cum», que traducido significa: «Niña, a ti te digo, ¡levántate(AH)!».

42 Al instante la niña se levantó y comenzó a caminar, pues tenía doce años. Y al momento todos se quedaron completamente atónitos. 43 Entonces les dio órdenes estrictas de que nadie se enterara de esto(AI); y dijo que le dieran de comer a la niña[q].

5 Þeir komu nú yfir um vatnið í byggð Gerasena.

2 Og um leið og Jesús sté úr bátnum, kom maður á móti honum frá gröfunum, haldinn óhreinum anda.

3 Hann hafðist við í gröfunum, og enginn gat lengur bundið hann, ekki einu sinni með hlekkjum.

4 Oft hafði hann verið fjötraður á fótum og höndum, en hann braut jafnóðum af sér hlekkina og sleit fjötrana, og gat enginn ráðið við hann.

5 Allar nætur og daga var hann í gröfunum eða á fjöllum, æpti og lamdi sig grjóti.

6 Þegar hann sá Jesú álengdar, hljóp hann og féll fram fyrir honum

7 og æpti hárri röddu: "Hvað vilt þú mér, Jesús, sonur Guðs hins hæsta? Ég særi þig við Guð, kvel þú mig eigi!"

8 Því að Jesús hafði sagt við hann: "Þú óhreini andi, far út af manninum."

9 Jesús spurði hann þá: "Hvað heitir þú?" Hinn svaraði: "Hersing heiti ég, vér erum margir."

10 Og hann bað Jesú ákaft að senda þá ekki brott úr héraðinu.

11 En þar í fjallinu var mikil svínahjörð á beit.

12 Og þeir báðu hann: "Send oss í svínin, lát oss fara í þau!"

13 Hann leyfði þeim það, og fóru þá óhreinu andarnir út og í svínin, og hjörðin, nær tveim þúsundum, ruddist fram af hamrinum í vatnið og drukknaði þar.

14 En hirðarnir flýðu og sögðu tíðindin í borginni og sveitinni. Menn fóru þá að sjá, hvað gjörst hafði,

15 komu til Jesú og sáu haldna manninn, sem hersingin hafði verið í, sitja þar klæddan og heilvita. Og þeir urðu hræddir.

16 En sjónarvottar sögðu þeim, hvað fram hafði farið við haldna manninn, og frá svínunum.

17 Og þeir tóku að biðja Jesú að fara burt úr héruðum þeirra.

18 Þá er hann sté í bátinn, bað sá, er haldinn hafði verið, að fá að vera með honum.

19 En Jesús leyfði honum það eigi, heldur sagði: "Far heim til þín og þinna, og seg þeim, hve mikið Drottinn hefur gjört fyrir þig og verið þér miskunnsamur."

20 Hann fór og tók að kunngjöra í Dekapólis, hve mikið Jesús hafði fyrir hann gjört, og undruðust það allir.

21 Þegar Jesús kom aftur yfir um á bátnum, safnaðist að honum mikill mannfjöldi, þar sem hann var við vatnið.

22 Þar kom og einn af samkundustjórunum, Jaírus að nafni, og er hann sá Jesú, féll hann til fóta honum,

23 bað hann ákaft og sagði: "Dóttir mín litla er að dauða komin. Kom og legg hendur yfir hana, að hún læknist og lifi."

24 Jesús fór með honum. Og mikill mannfjöldi fylgdi honum, og var þröng um hann.

25 Þar var kona, sem hafði haft blóðlát í tólf ár.

26 Hún hafði orðið margt að þola hjá mörgum læknum, kostað til aleigu sinni, en engan bata fengið, öllu heldur versnað.

27 Hún heyrði um Jesú og kom nú í mannþrönginni að baki honum og snart klæði hans.

28 Hún hugsaði: "Ef ég fæ aðeins snert klæði hans, mun ég heil verða."

29 Jafnskjótt þvarr blóðlát hennar, og hún fann það á sér, að hún var heil af meini sínu.

30 Jesús fann þegar á sjálfum sér, að kraftur hafði farið út frá honum, og hann sneri sér við í mannþrönginni og sagði: "Hver snart klæði mín?"

31 Lærisveinar hans sögðu við hann: "Þú sérð, að mannfjöldinn þrengir að þér, og spyrð þó: Hver snart mig?"

32 Hann litaðist um til að sjá, hver þetta hefði gjört,

33 en konan, sem vissi, hvað fram við sig hafði farið, kom hrædd og skjálfandi, féll til fóta honum og sagði honum allan sannleikann.

34 Jesús sagði við hana: "Dóttir, trú þín hefur bjargað þér. Far þú í friði, og ver heil meina þinna."

35 Meðan hann var að segja þetta, koma menn heiman frá samkundustjóranum og segja: "Dóttir þín er látin, hví ómakar þú meistarann lengur?"

36 Jesús heyrði, hvað þeir sögðu, en gaf ekki um, heldur sagði við samkundustjórann: "Óttast ekki, trú þú aðeins."

37 Og nú leyfði hann engum að fylgja sér nema Pétri og þeim bræðrum Jakobi og Jóhannesi.

38 Þeir koma að húsi samkundustjórans. Þar sér hann, að allt er í uppnámi, grátur mikill og kveinan.

39 Hann gengur inn og segir við þá: "Hví hafið þér svo hátt og grátið? Barnið er ekki dáið, það sefur."

40 En þeir hlógu að honum. Þá lét hann alla fara út og tók með sér föður barnsins og móður og þá sem með honum voru, og gekk þar inn, sem barnið var.

41 Og hann tók hönd barnsins og sagði: "Talíþa kúm!" Það þýðir: "Stúlka litla, ég segi þér, rís upp!"

42 Jafnskjótt reis stúlkan upp og fór að ganga um, en hún var tólf ára. Og menn urðu frá sér numdir af undrun.

43 En hann lagði ríkt á við þá að láta engan vita þetta og bauð að gefa henni að eta.

Jesus Restores a Demon-Possessed Man(A)(B)

5 They went across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes.[a] 2 When Jesus got out of the boat,(C) a man with an impure spirit(D) came from the tombs to meet him. 3 This man lived in the tombs, and no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain. 4 For he had often been chained hand and foot, but he tore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him. 5 Night and day among the tombs and in the hills he would cry out and cut himself with stones.

6 When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him. 7 He shouted at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me,(E) Jesus, Son of the Most High God?(F) In God’s name don’t torture me!” 8 For Jesus had said to him, “Come out of this man, you impure spirit!”

9 Then Jesus asked him, “What is your name?”

“My name is Legion,”(G) he replied, “for we are many.” 10 And he begged Jesus again and again not to send them out of the area.

11 A large herd of pigs was feeding on the nearby hillside. 12 The demons begged Jesus, “Send us among the pigs; allow us to go into them.” 13 He gave them permission, and the impure spirits came out and went into the pigs. The herd, about two thousand in number, rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned.

14 Those tending the pigs ran off and reported this in the town and countryside, and the people went out to see what had happened. 15 When they came to Jesus, they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion(H) of demons,(I) sitting there, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. 16 Those who had seen it told the people what had happened to the demon-possessed man—and told about the pigs as well. 17 Then the people began to plead with Jesus to leave their region.

18 As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed begged to go with him. 19 Jesus did not let him, but said, “Go home to your own people and tell them(J) how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.” 20 So the man went away and began to tell in the Decapolis[b](K) how much Jesus had done for him. And all the people were amazed.

Jesus Raises a Dead Girl and Heals a Sick Woman(L)

21 When Jesus had again crossed over by boat to the other side of the lake,(M) a large crowd gathered around him while he was by the lake.(N) 22 Then one of the synagogue leaders,(O) named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet. 23 He pleaded earnestly with him, “My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on(P) her so that she will be healed and live.” 24 So Jesus went with him.

A large crowd followed and pressed around him. 25 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding(Q) for twelve years. 26 She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. 27 When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, 28 because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes,(R) I will be healed.” 29 Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.(S)

30 At once Jesus realized that power(T) had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my clothes?”

31 “You see the people crowding against you,” his disciples answered, “and yet you can ask, ‘Who touched me?’ ”

32 But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. 33 Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. 34 He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you.(U) Go in peace(V) and be freed from your suffering.”

35 While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader.(W) “Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher anymore?”

36 Overhearing[c] what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”

37 He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James.(X) 38 When they came to the home of the synagogue leader,(Y) Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly. 39 He went in and said to them, “Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep.”(Z) 40 But they laughed at him.

After he put them all out, he took the child’s father and mother and the disciples who were with him, and went in where the child was. 41 He took her by the hand(AA) and said to her, “Talitha koum!” (which means “Little girl, I say to you, get up!”).(AB) 42 Immediately the girl stood up and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished. 43 He gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this,(AC) and told them to give her something to eat.
