I.— COMIENZOS DEL MINISTERIO DE JESÚS (1,1-13)

Título

1 Principio de la buena noticia de Jesucristo, el Hijo de Dios.

Predicación de Juan el Bautista (Mt 3,1-12; Lc 3,1-9.15-17; Jn 1,19-28)

2 Así está escrito en el libro del profeta Isaías:

Mira, yo envío mi mensajero delante de ti
para que te prepare el camino.
3 Se oye una voz:
alguien clama en el desierto:
“¡Preparen el camino del Señor;
abran sendas rectas para él!”.

4 Juan el Bautista se presentó en el desierto proclamando que la gente se bautizara como señal de conversión para recibir el perdón de los pecados. 5 La región entera de Judea y todos los habitantes de Jerusalén acudían a él, confesaban sus pecados y Juan los bautizaba en las aguas del Jordán. 6 Juan iba vestido de pelo de camello, llevaba un cinturón de cuero y se alimentaba de saltamontes y miel silvestre. 7 Y lo que proclamaba era esto:

— Después de mí viene uno que es más poderoso que yo. Yo ni siquiera soy digno de agacharme para desatar las correas de sus sandalias. 8 Yo los he bautizado a ustedes con agua, pero él los bautizará con Espíritu Santo.

Bautismo de Jesús (Mt 3,13-17; Lc 3,21-22)

9 Por aquellos días llegó Jesús procedente de Nazaret de Galilea, y Juan lo bautizó en el Jordán. 10 En el instante mismo de salir del agua, vio Jesús que el cielo se abría y que el Espíritu descendía sobre él como una paloma. 11 Y se oyó una voz proveniente del cielo:

— Tú eres mi Hijo amado; en ti me complazco.

12 Acto seguido el Espíritu impulsó a Jesús a ir al desierto 13 donde Satanás lo puso a prueba durante cuarenta días. Vivía entre animales salvajes y era atendido por los ángeles.

II.— REVELACIÓN PROGRESIVA DEL MESÍAS (1,14—8,30)

Predicación inaugural (Mt 4,12-17; Lc 4,14-15)

14 Después que Juan fue encarcelado, Jesús se dirigió a Galilea, a predicar la buena noticia de Dios. 15 Decía:

— El tiempo se ha cumplido y ya está cerca el reino de Dios. Conviértanse y crean en la buena noticia.

Jesús llama a los cuatro primeros discípulos (Mt 4,18-22; Lc 5,1-11)

16 Iba Jesús caminando por la orilla del lago de Galilea, cuando vio a Simón y Andrés. Eran pescadores y estaban echando la red en el lago. 17 Jesús les dijo:

— Vengan conmigo y los haré pescadores de hombres.

18 Ellos dejaron al punto sus redes y se fueron con él.

19 Un poco más adelante vio a Santiago, el hijo de Zebedeo, y a su hermano Juan, que estaban en la barca reparando las redes. 20 Los llamó también, y ellos, dejando a su padre Zebedeo en la barca junto con los trabajadores contratados, se fueron en pos de él.

Curación de un endemoniado (Lc 4,31-37)

21 Se dirigieron a Cafarnaún y, cuando llegó el sábado, Jesús entró en la sinagoga y se puso a enseñar. 22 Todos quedaban impresionados por sus enseñanzas, porque los enseñaba como quien tiene autoridad y no como los maestros de la ley. 23 Estaba allí, en la sinagoga un hombre poseído por un espíritu impuro, que gritaba:

24 — ¡Jesús de Nazaret, déjanos en paz! ¿Has venido a destruirnos? ¡Te conozco bien: tú eres el Santo de Dios!

25 Jesús lo increpó, diciéndole:

— ¡Cállate y sal de él!

26 El espíritu impuro, sacudiéndolo violentamente y dando un gran alarido, salió de él. 27 Todos quedaron asombrados hasta el punto de preguntarse unos a otros:

— ¿Qué está pasando aquí? Es una nueva enseñanza, llena de autoridad. Además, este hombre da órdenes a los espíritus impuros, y lo obedecen.

28 Y muy pronto se extendió la fama de Jesús por todas partes en la región entera de Galilea.

Curación de la suegra de Pedro (Mt 8,14-15; Lc 4,38-39)

29 Al salir de la sinagoga, Jesús fue a casa de Simón y Andrés, acompañado también por Santiago y Juan. 30 Le dijeron que la suegra de Simón estaba en cama, con fiebre. 31 Él entonces se acercó, la tomó de la mano e hizo que se levantara. Al instante le desapareció la fiebre y se puso a atenderlos.

Otras curaciones (Mt 8,16-17; Lc 4,40-41)

32 Al anochecer, cuando ya el sol se había puesto, le llevaron todos los enfermos y poseídos por demonios. 33 Toda la gente de la ciudad se apiñaba a la puerta, 34 y Jesús curó a muchos que padecían diversas enfermedades y expulsó muchos demonios; pero a los demonios no les permitía que hablaran de él, porque lo conocían.

Jesús recorre los pueblos de Galilea (Lc 4,42-44)

35 De madrugada, antes de amanecer, Jesús se levantó y, saliendo de la ciudad, se dirigió a un lugar apartado a orar. 36 Simón y los que estaban con él fueron en su busca 37 y, cuando lo encontraron, le dijeron:

— Todos están buscándote.

38 Jesús les contestó:

— Vayamos a otra parte, a las aldeas cercanas, para proclamar también allí el mensaje, pues para eso he venido. 39 Así recorrió toda Galilea proclamando el mensaje en las sinagogas y expulsando demonios.

Curación de un leproso (Mt 8,2-4; Lc 5,12-16)

40 Se acercó entonces a Jesús un leproso y, poniéndose de rodillas, le suplicó:

— Si quieres, puedes limpiarme de mi enfermedad.

41 Jesús, conmovido, extendió la mano, lo tocó y le dijo:

— Quiero. Queda limpio.

42 Al instante le desapareció la lepra y quedó limpio. 43 Acto seguido Jesús lo despidió con tono severo 44 y le encargó:

— Mira, no le cuentes esto a nadie, sino ve, muéstrate al sacerdote y presenta la ofrenda prescrita al efecto por Moisés. Así todos tendrán evidencia de tu curación.

45 Pero él, en cuanto se fue, comenzó a proclamar sin reservas lo ocurrido; y como la noticia se extendió con rapidez, Jesús ya no podía entrar libremente en ninguna población, sino que debía permanecer fuera, en lugares apartados. Sin embargo, la gente acudía a él de todas partes.

Predicación de Juan el Bautista

(Mt. 3.1-12; Lc. 3.1-9,15-17; Jn. 1.19-28)

1 Principio del evangelio de Jesucristo, Hijo de Dios. 2 Como está escrito en Isaías el profeta:

He aquí yo envío mi mensajero delante de tu faz,

El cual preparará tu camino delante de ti.(A)

3 Voz del que clama en el desierto:

Preparad el camino del Señor;

Enderezad sus sendas.(B)

4 Bautizaba Juan en el desierto, y predicaba el bautismo de arrepentimiento para perdón de pecados. 5 Y salían a él toda la provincia de Judea, y todos los de Jerusalén; y eran bautizados por él en el río Jordán, confesando sus pecados. 6 Y Juan estaba vestido de pelo de camello, y tenía un cinto de cuero alrededor de sus lomos;(C) y comía langostas y miel silvestre. 7 Y predicaba, diciendo: Viene tras mí el que es más poderoso que yo, a quien no soy digno de desatar encorvado la correa de su calzado. 8 Yo a la verdad os he bautizado con agua; pero él os bautizará con Espíritu Santo.

El bautismo de Jesús

(Mt. 3.13-17; Lc. 3.21-22)

9 Aconteció en aquellos días, que Jesús vino de Nazaret de Galilea, y fue bautizado por Juan en el Jordán. 10 Y luego, cuando subía del agua, vio abrirse los cielos, y al Espíritu como paloma que descendía sobre él. 11 Y vino una voz de los cielos que decía: Tú eres mi Hijo amado; en ti tengo complacencia.(D)

Tentación de Jesús

(Mt. 4.1-11; Lc. 4.1-13)

12 Y luego el Espíritu le impulsó al desierto. 13 Y estuvo allí en el desierto cuarenta días, y era tentado por Satanás, y estaba con las fieras; y los ángeles le servían.

Jesús principia su ministerio

(Mt. 4.12-17; Lc. 4.14-15)

14 Después que Juan fue encarcelado, Jesús vino a Galilea predicando el evangelio del reino de Dios, 15 diciendo: El tiempo se ha cumplido, y el reino de Dios(E) se ha acercado; arrepentíos,(F) y creed en el evangelio.

Jesús llama a cuatro pescadores

(Mt. 4.18-22; Lc. 5.1-11)

16 Andando junto al mar de Galilea, vio a Simón y a Andrés su hermano, que echaban la red en el mar; porque eran pescadores. 17 Y les dijo Jesús: Venid en pos de mí, y haré que seáis pescadores de hombres. 18 Y dejando luego sus redes, le siguieron. 19 Pasando de allí un poco más adelante, vio a Jacobo hijo de Zebedeo, y a Juan su hermano, también ellos en la barca, que remendaban las redes. 20 Y luego los llamó; y dejando a su padre Zebedeo en la barca con los jornaleros, le siguieron.

Un hombre que tenía un espíritu inmundo

(Lc. 4.31-37)

21 Y entraron en Capernaum; y los días de reposo,[a] entrando en la sinagoga, enseñaba. 22 Y se admiraban de su doctrina; porque les enseñaba como quien tiene autoridad, y no como los escribas.(G) 23 Pero había en la sinagoga de ellos un hombre con espíritu inmundo, que dio voces, 24 diciendo: ¡Ah! ¿qué tienes con nosotros, Jesús nazareno? ¿Has venido para destruirnos? Sé quién eres, el Santo de Dios. 25 Pero Jesús le reprendió, diciendo: ¡Cállate, y sal de él! 26 Y el espíritu inmundo, sacudiéndole con violencia, y clamando a gran voz, salió de él. 27 Y todos se asombraron, de tal manera que discutían entre sí, diciendo: ¿Qué es esto? ¿Qué nueva doctrina es esta, que con autoridad manda aun a los espíritus inmundos, y le obedecen? 28 Y muy pronto se difundió su fama por toda la provincia alrededor de Galilea.

Jesús sana a la suegra de Pedro

(Mt. 8.14-15; Lc. 4.38-39)

29 Al salir de la sinagoga, vinieron a casa de Simón y Andrés, con Jacobo y Juan. 30 Y la suegra de Simón estaba acostada con fiebre; y en seguida le hablaron de ella. 31 Entonces él se acercó, y la tomó de la mano y la levantó; e inmediatamente le dejó la fiebre, y ella les servía.

Muchos sanados al ponerse el sol

(Mt. 8.16-17; Lc. 4.40-41)

32 Cuando llegó la noche, luego que el sol se puso, le trajeron todos los que tenían enfermedades, y a los endemoniados; 33 y toda la ciudad se agolpó a la puerta. 34 Y sanó a muchos que estaban enfermos de diversas enfermedades, y echó fuera muchos demonios; y no dejaba hablar a los demonios, porque le conocían.

Jesús recorre Galilea predicando

(Lc. 4.42-44)

35 Levantándose muy de mañana, siendo aún muy oscuro, salió y se fue a un lugar desierto, y allí oraba. 36 Y le buscó Simón, y los que con él estaban; 37 y hallándole, le dijeron: Todos te buscan. 38 Él les dijo: Vamos a los lugares vecinos, para que predique también allí; porque para esto he venido. 39 Y predicaba en las sinagogas de ellos en toda Galilea, y echaba fuera los demonios.(H)

Jesús sana a un leproso

(Mt. 8.1-4; Lc. 5.12-16)

40 Vino a él un leproso, rogándole; e hincada la rodilla, le dijo: Si quieres, puedes limpiarme. 41 Y Jesús, teniendo misericordia de él, extendió la mano y le tocó, y le dijo: Quiero, sé limpio. 42 Y así que él hubo hablado, al instante la lepra se fue de aquel, y quedó limpio. 43 Entonces le encargó rigurosamente, y le despidió luego, 44 y le dijo: Mira, no digas a nadie nada, sino ve, muéstrate al sacerdote, y ofrece por tu purificación lo que Moisés mandó,(I) para testimonio a ellos. 45 Pero ido él, comenzó a publicarlo mucho y a divulgar el hecho, de manera que ya Jesús no podía entrar abiertamente en la ciudad, sino que se quedaba fuera en los lugares desiertos; y venían a él de todas partes.

John the Baptist Prepares the Way(A)

1 The beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah,[a] the Son of God,[b](B) 2 as it is written in Isaiah the prophet:

“I will send my messenger ahead of you,
    who will prepare your way”[c](C)—
3 “a voice of one calling in the wilderness,
‘Prepare the way for the Lord,
    make straight paths for him.’”[d](D)

4 And so John the Baptist(E) appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance(F) for the forgiveness of sins.(G) 5 The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River. 6 John wore clothing made of camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist,(H) and he ate locusts(I) and wild honey. 7 And this was his message: “After me comes the one more powerful than I, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie.(J) 8 I baptize you with[e] water, but he will baptize you with[f] the Holy Spirit.”(K)

The Baptism and Testing of Jesus(L)(M)

9 At that time Jesus came from Nazareth(N) in Galilee and was baptized by John(O) in the Jordan. 10 Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove.(P) 11 And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son,(Q) whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”(R)

12 At once the Spirit sent him out into the wilderness, 13 and he was in the wilderness forty days,(S) being tempted[g] by Satan.(T) He was with the wild animals, and angels attended him.

Jesus Announces the Good News(U)

14 After John(V) was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee,(W) proclaiming the good news of God.(X) 15 “The time has come,”(Y) he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe(Z) the good news!”(AA)

Jesus Calls His First Disciples

16 As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 17 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” 18 At once they left their nets and followed him.(AB)

19 When he had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets. 20 Without delay he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.

Jesus Drives Out an Impure Spirit(AC)

21 They went to Capernaum, and when the Sabbath came, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach.(AD) 22 The people were amazed at his teaching, because he taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law.(AE) 23 Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an impure spirit cried out, 24 “What do you want with us,(AF) Jesus of Nazareth?(AG) Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!”(AH)

25 “Be quiet!” said Jesus sternly. “Come out of him!”(AI) 26 The impure spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek.(AJ)

27 The people were all so amazed(AK) that they asked each other, “What is this? A new teaching—and with authority! He even gives orders to impure spirits and they obey him.” 28 News about him spread quickly over the whole region(AL) of Galilee.

Jesus Heals Many(AM)(AN)

29 As soon as they left the synagogue,(AO) they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew. 30 Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they immediately told Jesus about her. 31 So he went to her, took her hand and helped her up.(AP) The fever left her and she began to wait on them.

32 That evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon-possessed.(AQ) 33 The whole town gathered at the door, 34 and Jesus healed many who had various diseases.(AR) He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was.(AS)

Jesus Prays in a Solitary Place(AT)

35 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.(AU) 36 Simon and his companions went to look for him, 37 and when they found him, they exclaimed: “Everyone is looking for you!”

38 Jesus replied, “Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.”(AV) 39 So he traveled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues(AW) and driving out demons.(AX)

Jesus Heals a Man With Leprosy(AY)

40 A man with leprosy[h] came to him and begged him on his knees,(AZ) “If you are willing, you can make me clean.”

41 Jesus was indignant.[i] He reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” 42 Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cleansed.

43 Jesus sent him away at once with a strong warning: 44 “See that you don’t tell this to anyone.(BA) But go, show yourself to the priest(BB) and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing,(BC) as a testimony to them.” 45 Instead he went out and began to talk freely, spreading the news. As a result, Jesus could no longer enter a town openly but stayed outside in lonely places.(BD) Yet the people still came to him from everywhere.(BE)

Johannes de Doper

1 Dit is hoe het goede nieuws begon van Jezus Christus, de Zoon van God.

2 Vroeger had de profeet Jesaja al geschreven: 'Ik stuur mijn boodschapper voor U uit. Hij zal de weg voor U vrij maken. 3 Hij roept in de woestijn: Maak de weg vrij voor de Heer! Maak zijn wegen recht!' 4 En dat gebeurde nu: In de woestijn vertelde Johannes de mensen dat ze moesten gaan leven zoals God het wil. Ook zei hij dat ze zich moesten laten dopen. Zo zouden ze vergeving krijgen voor hun ongehoorzaamheid aan God. 5 Uit het hele Joodse land en uit Jeruzalem kwamen de mensen naar hem toe. Ze gaven toe dat ze inderdaad ongehoorzaam aan God waren geweest. En ze lieten zich door Johannes dopen in de rivier de Jordaan. 6 Johannes droeg kleren die van kameelhaar waren gemaakt, met een leren gordel om zijn middel. Hij leefde van sprinkhanen en honing van wilde bijen. 7 Hij vertelde de mensen: "Na mij komt iemand die machtiger is dan ik. Ik ben het niet eens waard om op mijn knieën zijn sandalen voor Hem los te maken. 8 Ik heb jullie met water gedoopt, maar Hij zal jullie dopen met de Heilige Geest."

9 In die tijd kwam ook Jezus uit Nazaret in Galilea naar Johannes toe. Hij liet Zich door hem dopen in de Jordaan. 10 Op het moment dat Hij uit het water opstond, zag Jezus de hemel opengaan. En de Geest daalde als een duif op Hem neer. 11 En een stem zei uit de hemel: "Jij bent mijn Zoon. Ik houd heel veel van jou. Ik geniet van jou."

Jezus wordt in de woestijn door de duivel uitgedaagd

12 Onmiddellijk daarna stuurde de Geest Jezus naar de woestijn. 13 Daar werd Hij 40 dagen lang door de duivel op de proef gesteld.[a] Hij leefde bij de wilde dieren, en de engelen dienden Hem.

Jezus' eerste leerlingen

14 Jezus ging naar Galilea om de mensen het goede nieuws van God te vertellen. Johannes was intussen gevangen genomen door koning Herodes.[b] 15 Jezus zei: "Het Koninkrijk van God komt bijna. Nu is het de tijd. Ga dus leven zoals God het wil en geloof het goede nieuws."

16 Op een keer liep Jezus langs het meer van Galilea. Daar zag Hij de broers Simon en Andreas. Ze gooiden een visnet uit in het water, want ze waren vissers. 17 Jezus zei tegen hen: "Volg Mij. Dan maak Ik van jullie vissers van mensen." 18 Ze lieten onmiddellijk hun netten liggen en gingen met Hem mee. 19 Verderop zag Hij de broers Jakobus en Johannes, de zonen van Zebedeüs. Ze waren in hun boot de visnetten aan het herstellen. 20 Jezus riep hen. Ze gingen meteen met Jezus mee en lieten hun vader en de knechten in de boot achter.

Genezing van een man met een duivelse geest

21 Ze kwamen in Kapernaüm. Op de heilige rustdag ging Jezus naar de synagoge om daar les te geven. 22 De mensen waren erg verbaasd over de manier waarop Hij les gaf. Want aan de manier waarop Hij les gaf, was duidelijk te horen dat Hij wist waar Hij het over had. Het was heel anders dan bij de wetgeleerden.[c]

23 Op dat moment was er in de synagoge een man in wie een duivelse geest zat. Hij schreeuwde: 24 "Laat ons met rust! Wat moet U van ons, Jezus van Nazaret? Bent U gekomen om ons te vernietigen? Ik weet wel wie U bent: de Heilige van God!" 25 Jezus zei streng tegen hem: "Houd je mond en ga uit hem weg!" 26 De duivelse geest maakte de man aan het stuiptrekken en schreeuwen. Toen ging hij uit hem weg. 27 Iedereen was heel erg verbaasd. De mensen zeiden tegen elkaar: "Wat is er toch aan de hand? Hij leert iets nieuws, en het is duidelijk dat Hij weet waar Hij het over heeft! En Hij heeft macht! Want ook de duivelse geesten geeft Hij bevelen, en ze gehoorzamen Hem." 28 En al gauw werd er in de hele omgeving van Galilea over Hem gepraat.

Genezingen in het huis van Simon Petrus

29 Van de synagoge gingen ze naar het huis van Simon en Andreas. Jakobus en Johannes gingen mee. 30 Daar lag de moeder van Simons vrouw met koorts in bed. Ze vertelden het aan Jezus. 31 Hij ging naar haar toe, pakte haar hand en hielp haar overeind. De koorts verdween onmiddellijk. Ze stond op en bediende Hem.

32 Toen het avond werd en de zon onderging, brachten de mensen iedereen naar Hem toe die erg ziek was of in wie een duivelse geest zat. 33 Alle bewoners van de stad stonden dicht op elkaar bij de deur. 34 En Hij genas heel veel mensen die erg ziek waren van allerlei ziekten. Ook joeg Hij uit veel mensen duivelse geesten weg. En Hij verbood de geesten om te zeggen wie Hij was.

Jezus geneest een man met een besmettelijke huidziekte

35 's Morgens heel vroeg, toen het eigenlijk nog nacht was, ging Jezus naar buiten. Hij ging naar een eenzame plek om te bidden. 36 Maar Simon en de andere mensen die bij hem waren, gingen Hem achterna. 37 Ze vonden Hem en zeiden tegen Hem: "Iedereen zoekt U!" 38 Hij zei tegen hen: "Laten we naar de dorpen in de omgeving gaan. Ik wil ook daar het goede nieuws aan de mensen vertellen. Want daarvoor ben Ik gestuurd." 39 Zo ging Hij in heel Galilea in de synagogen het goede nieuws vertellen. En Hij joeg heel veel duivelse geesten weg uit de mensen.

40 Er kwam een man naar Hem toe die een besmettelijke huidziekte had.[d] Hij viel voor Jezus op zijn knieën en smeekte Hem: "Als U wil, kunt U mij beter maken." 41 Jezus had medelijden met de man. Hij raakte hem aan[e] en zei tegen hem: "Ik wil het. Wees gezond." 42 Onmiddellijk verdween de ziekte en de man was gezond. 43 Jezus stuurde hem meteen weg en zei streng tegen hem: 44 "Denk erom dat je dit aan niemand vertelt. Ga naar de priester. Laat hem zien dat je weer gezond bent. Breng dan het offer dat hoort bij je genezing, zoals Mozes dat heeft bevolen.[f] Dat zal voor de mensen het bewijs zijn dat je genezen bent." 45 Maar toen de man was weggegaan, vertelde hij aan iedereen die hij tegenkwam wat er was gebeurd. Daardoor kon Jezus niet meer openlijk een stad binnen komen. Hij bleef buiten de steden, op eenzame plaatsen. Maar van alle kanten kwamen de mensen naar Hem toe.
