10 And His disciples asked Him, saying, “Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”
11 Jesus answered and said to them, “Indeed, Elijah is coming[a]first and willrestore all things.12 But I say to you that Elijah has come already, and theydid not know him but did to him whatever they wished. Likewisethe Son of Man is also about to suffer at their hands.”13 Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them of John the Baptist.
11 And they asked Him, saying, “Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”
12 Then He answered and told them, “Indeed, Elijah is coming first and restores all things. Andhow is it written concerning the Son of Man, that He must suffer many things andbe treated with contempt?13 But I say to you thatElijah has also come, and they did to him whatever they wished, as it is written of him.”
17 He will also go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, ‘to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,’ and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”
