^4 (A)“Remember ^(B)the law of my servant Moses, the statutes and rules^[a] that I commanded him at Horeb for all Israel.

¹⁰ how on ^(A)the day that you stood before the Lord your God at Horeb, the Lord said to me, ^(B)‘Gather the people to me, that I may let them hear my words, ^(C)so that they may learn to fear ^(D)me all the days that they live on the earth, and that they may teach their children so.’

⁹ But if you ^(A)show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors. ¹⁰ For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point ^(B)has become guilty of all of it. ¹¹ For he who said, ^(C)“Do not commit adultery,” also said, ^(D)“Do not murder.” If you do not commit adultery but do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law. ¹² So speak and so act as those who are to be judged under ^(E)the law of liberty. ¹³ For ^(F)judgment is without mercy to one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

¹³ For you were called to freedom, brothers. ^(A)Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love ^(B)serve one another. ¹⁴ For ^(C)the whole law is fulfilled in one word: ^(D)“You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

³¹ Do we then overthrow the law by this faith? By no means! On the contrary, we uphold the law.

²⁹ But Abraham said, ‘They have ^(A)Moses and the Prophets; ^(B)let them hear them.’ ³⁰ And he said, ‘No, ^(C)father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’ ³¹ He said to him, ‘If they do not hear ^(D)Moses and the Prophets, ^(E)neither will they be convinced if someone should rise from the dead.’”

²⁴ And those who belong to Christ Jesus ^(A)have crucified the flesh with its ^(B)passions and desires.

²⁵ If we live by the Spirit, ^(C)let us also keep in step with the Spirit.

The Parable of the Good Samaritan

^25 (A)And behold, a ^(B)lawyer stood up to ^(C)put him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to ^(D)inherit eternal life?” ²⁶ He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How do you read it?” ²⁷ And he answered, ^(E)“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and ^(F)your neighbor as yourself.” ²⁸ And he said to him, “You have answered correctly; ^(G)do this, and you will live.”

The Great Commandment

^28 (A)And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, “Which commandment is the most important of all?” ²⁹ Jesus answered, “The most important is, ^(B)‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, ^(C)the Lord is one. ³⁰ And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ ^31 (D)The second is this: ^(E)‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment ^(F)greater than these.” ³² And the scribe said to him, “You are right, Teacher. You have truly said that ^(G)he is one, and ^(H)there is no other besides him. ³³ And to love him with all the heart and with all ^(I)the understanding and with all the strength, and to love one's neighbor as oneself, ^(J)is much more than all ^(K)whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.” ³⁴ And when Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” ^(L)And after that no one dared to ask him any more questions.
