While everyone was marveling at all that Jesus did, he said to his disciples, ⁴⁴ “Listen carefully to what I am about to tell you: The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men.”^{(A) 45} But they did not understand what this meant. It was hidden from them, so that they did not grasp it,^(B) and they were afraid to ask him about it.

¹⁰ they recognized him as the same man who used to sit begging at the temple gate called Beautiful,^(A) and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.

Peter Speaks to the Onlookers

¹¹ While the man held on to Peter and John,^(B) all the people were astonished and came running to them in the place called Solomon’s Colonnade.^{(C) 12} When Peter saw this, he said to them: “Fellow Israelites, why does this surprise you? Why do you stare at us as if by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk? ¹³ The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob,^(D) the God of our fathers,^(E) has glorified his servant Jesus. You handed him over^(F) to be killed, and you disowned him before Pilate,^(G) though he had decided to let him go.^(H)

³⁰ They left that place and passed through Galilee. Jesus did not want anyone to know where they were, ³¹ because he was teaching his disciples. He said to them, “The Son of Man^(B) is going to be delivered into the hands of men. They will kill him,^(C) and after three days^(D) he will rise.”^{(E) 32} But they did not understand what he meant^(F) and were afraid to ask him about it.

²² When they came together in Galilee, he said to them, “The Son of Man^(A) is going to be delivered into the hands of men.

¹⁶ For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power,^(A) but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.^(B)

²⁵ “Where is your faith?” he asked his disciples.

In fear and amazement they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him.”

²⁶ Everyone was amazed and gave praise to God.^(A) They were filled with awe and said, “We have seen remarkable things today.”

³⁶ All the people were amazed^(A) and said to each other, “What words these are! With authority^(B) and power he gives orders to impure spirits and they come out!”
