A Lamp on a Stand

¹⁶ “No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light.^(A)

The Lamp of the Body^(A)

³³ “No one lights a lamp and puts it in a place where it will be hidden, or under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, so that those who come in may see the light.^(B)

¹⁵ Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.^{(A) 16} In the same way, let your light shine before others,^(B) that they may see your good deeds^(C) and glorify^(D) your Father in heaven.

A Lamp on a Stand

²¹ He said to them, “Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed? Instead, don’t you put it on its stand?^{(A) 22} For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open.^(B)

¹⁸ to open their eyes^(A) and turn them from darkness to light,^(B) and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins^(C) and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’^(D)

²⁰ The mystery of the seven stars that you saw in my right hand^(A) and of the seven golden lampstands^(B) is this: The seven stars are the angels^[a] of the seven churches,^(C) and the seven lampstands are the seven churches.^(D)

To the Church in Ephesus

2 “To the angel^[b] of the church in Ephesus^(E) write:

¹⁵ so that you may become blameless^(A) and pure, “children of God^(B) without fault in a warped and crooked generation.”^[a](C) Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky ¹⁶ as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ^(D) that I did not run^(E) or labor in vain.^(F)

⁴ They are “the two olive trees”^(A) and the two lampstands, and “they stand before the Lord of the earth.”^[a](B)
