Jesus Is Lord of the Sabbath(A)

One Sabbath Jesus was going through the grainfields, and his disciples began to pick some heads of grain, rub them in their hands and eat the kernels.(B) Some of the Pharisees asked, “Why are you doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?”(C)

Jesus answered them, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry?(D) He entered the house of God, and taking the consecrated bread, he ate what is lawful only for priests to eat.(E) And he also gave some to his companions.” Then Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man(F) is Lord of the Sabbath.”

On another Sabbath(G) he went into the synagogue and was teaching, and a man was there whose right hand was shriveled. The Pharisees and the teachers of the law were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely(H) to see if he would heal on the Sabbath.(I) But Jesus knew what they were thinking(J) and said to the man with the shriveled hand, “Get up and stand in front of everyone.” So he got up and stood there.

Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you, which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?”

10 He looked around at them all, and then said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He did so, and his hand was completely restored. 11 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law were furious(K) and began to discuss with one another what they might do to Jesus.

The Twelve Apostles(L)

12 One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.(M) 13 When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles:(N) 14 Simon (whom he named Peter), his brother Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, 15 Matthew,(O) Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Simon who was called the Zealot, 16 Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.

Blessings and Woes(P)

17 He went down with them and stood on a level place. A large crowd of his disciples was there and a great number of people from all over Judea, from Jerusalem, and from the coastal region around Tyre and Sidon,(Q) 18 who had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases. Those troubled by impure spirits were cured, 19 and the people all tried to touch him,(R) because power was coming from him and healing them all.(S)

20 Looking at his disciples, he said:

“Blessed are you who are poor,
    for yours is the kingdom of God.(T)
21 Blessed are you who hunger now,
    for you will be satisfied.(U)
Blessed are you who weep now,
    for you will laugh.(V)
22 Blessed are you when people hate you,
    when they exclude you(W) and insult you(X)
    and reject your name as evil,
        because of the Son of Man.(Y)

23 “Rejoice in that day and leap for joy,(Z) because great is your reward in heaven. For that is how their ancestors treated the prophets.(AA)

24 “But woe to you who are rich,(AB)
    for you have already received your comfort.(AC)
25 Woe to you who are well fed now,
    for you will go hungry.(AD)
Woe to you who laugh now,
    for you will mourn and weep.(AE)
26 Woe to you when everyone speaks well of you,
    for that is how their ancestors treated the false prophets.(AF)

Love for Enemies(AG)

27 “But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,(AH) 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.(AI) 29 If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. 30 Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back.(AJ) 31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.(AK)

32 “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you?(AL) Even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. 34 And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you?(AM) Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. 35 But love your enemies, do good to them,(AN) and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children(AO) of the Most High,(AP) because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. 36 Be merciful,(AQ) just as your Father(AR) is merciful.

Judging Others(AS)

37 “Do not judge, and you will not be judged.(AT) Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.(AU) 38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap.(AV) For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”(AW)

39 He also told them this parable: “Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into a pit?(AX) 40 The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher.(AY)

41 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 42 How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

A Tree and Its Fruit(AZ)

43 “No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. 44 Each tree is recognized by its own fruit.(BA) People do not pick figs from thornbushes, or grapes from briers. 45 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.(BB)

The Wise and Foolish Builders(BC)

46 “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’(BD) and do not do what I say?(BE) 47 As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice,(BF) I will show you what they are like. 48 They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. 49 But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.”

Plucking Grain on the Sabbath

Now it happened that on a Sabbath he went through the grain fields, and his disciples were picking and eating the heads of grain, rubbing them[a] in their[b] hands. But some of the Pharisees said, “Why are you doing what is not permitted on the Sabbath? And Jesus answered and[c] said to them, “Have you not read this, what David did when he and those who were with him were hungry— how he entered into the house of God and took the bread of the presentation, which it is not permitted to eat (except the priests alone), and[d] ate it[e] and gave it[f] to those with him?” And he said to them, “The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”

A Man with a Withered Hand Healed

Now it happened that on another Sabbath he entered into the synagogue and was teaching, and a man was there, and his right hand was withered. So the scribes and the Pharisees were watching closely[g] to see if he would heal on the Sabbath, in order that they could find a reason[h] to accuse him. But he knew their thoughts and said to the man who had the withered hand, “Get up and stand in the middle,” and he got up and[i] stood there. And Jesus said to them, “I ask you whether it is permitted on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save a life or to destroy it?”[j] 10 And after[k] looking around at them all, he said to him, “Stretch out your hand,” and he did, and his hand was restored. 11 But they were filled with fury, and began discussing[l] with one another what they might do to Jesus.

The Selection of the Twelve Apostles

12 Now it happened that in these days he went away to the mountain to pray, and was spending the whole night in prayer to God. 13 And when day came, he summoned his disciples and chose from them twelve, whom he also named apostles: 14 Simon (whom he also named Peter) and his brother Andrew, and James, and John, and Philip, and Bartholomew, 15 and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon who was called the Zealot, 16 and Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.

The Sermon on the Plain: The Beatitudes

17 And he came down with them and[m] stood on a level place, and a large crowd of his disciples and a great multitude of people from all of Judea and Jerusalem and the seacoast district of Tyre and Sidon, 18 who came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases, and those who were troubled by unclean spirits were cured. 19 And the whole crowd was seeking to touch him, because power was going out from him and healing them all.

20 And he lifted up his eyes to his disciples and[n] said,

“Blessed are the poor,
    because yours is the kingdom of God.
21 Blessed are those who are hungry now,
    because you will be satisfied.
Blessed are those who weep now,
    Because you will laugh.
22 Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude you and revile you and spurn your name as evil on account of the Son of Man. 23 Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven. For their fathers used to do the same things to the prophets.

The Sermon on the Plain: Woes

24 “But woe to you who are rich,
    because you have received your comfort.
25 Woe to you who are satisfied now,
    because you will be hungry.
Woe, you who laugh now,
    because you will mourn and weep.
26 Woe whenever all people speak well of you,
    for their fathers used to do the same things to the false prophets.

The Sermon on the Plain: Love for Enemies

27 “But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29 To the one who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also, and from the one who takes away your cloak, do not withhold your tunic also. 30 Give to everyone who asks you, and from the one who takes away your things, do not ask for them back.[o] 31 And just as you want people to do[p] to you, do the same[q] to them.

32 “And if you love those who love you, what kind of credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them! 33 And if[r] you do good to those who do good to you, what kind of credit is that to you? Even the sinners do the same! 34 And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive back, what kind of credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, so that they may get back an equal amount! 35 But love your enemies, and do good, and lend expecting back nothing, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. 36 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful![s]

The Sermon on the Plain: On Judging Others

37 “And do not judge, and you will never be judged. And do not condemn, and you will never be condemned. Pardon, and you will be pardoned. 38 Give, and it will be given to you, a good measure—pressed down, shaken, overflowing—they will pour out into your lap. For with the measure by which you measure out, it will be measured out to you in return.”

39 And he also told them a parable: “Surely a blind person cannot lead the blind, can he?[t] Will they not both fall into a pit? 40 A disciple is not superior to his[u] teacher, but everyone, when he[v] is fully trained, will be like his teacher. 41 And why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the beam of wood that is in your own eye? 42 How are you able to say to your brother, “Brother, allow me to remove the speck that is in your eye,” while[w] you yourself do not see the beam of wood in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the beam of wood from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck that is in your brother’s eye!

The Sermon on the Plain: Trees and Their Fruit

43 “For there is no good tree that produces bad fruit, nor on the other hand a bad tree that produces good fruit, 44 for each tree is known by its own fruit. For figs are not gathered from thorn plants, nor are grapes harvested from thorn bushes. 45 The good person out of the good treasury of his heart brings forth good, and the evil person out of his[x] evil treasury[y] brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

46 “And why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I tell you?[z]

The Sermon on the Plain: Two Houses and Two Foundations

47 “Everyone who comes to me and listens to my words and does them—I will show you what he is like: 48 he is like a man building a house, who dug and went down deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when[aa] a flood came, the river burst against that house and was not able to shake it, because it had been built well. 49 But the one who hears my words[ab] and does not do them[ac] is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation, which the river burst against, and immediately it collapsed—and the collapse of that house was great!”

One Shabbat, while Yeshua was passing through some wheat fields, his talmidim began plucking the heads of grain, rubbing them between their hands and eating the seeds. Some of the P’rushim said, “Why are you violating Shabbat?” Yeshua answered them, “Haven’t you ever read what David did when he and his companions were hungry? He entered the House of God and took and ate the Bread of the Presence” — which no one is permitted to eat but the cohanim. “The Son of Man,” he concluded, “is Lord of Shabbat.”

On another Shabbat, when Yeshua had gone into the synagogue and was teaching, a man was there who had a shriveled hand. The Torah-teachers and P’rushim watched Yeshua carefully to see if he would heal on Shabbat, so that they could accuse him of something. But he knew what they were thinking and said to the man with the shriveled hand, “Come up and stand where we can see you!” He got up and stood there. Then Yeshua said to them, “I ask you now: what is permitted on Shabbat? Doing good or doing evil? Saving life or destroying it?” 10 Then, after looking around at all of them, he said to the man, “Hold out your hand.” As he held it out, his hand was restored. 11 But the others were filled with fury and began discussing with each other what they could do to Yeshua.

12 It was around that time that Yeshua went out to the hill country to pray, and all night he continued in prayer to God. 13 When day came, he called his talmidim and chose from among them twelve to be known as emissaries:

14 Shim‘on, whom he named Kefa; Andrew, his brother; Ya‘akov; Yochanan; Philip; Bar-Talmai;

15 Mattityahu; T’oma; Ya‘akov Ben-Halfai;

16 Shim‘on, the one called the Zealot; Y’hudah Ben-Ya‘akov; and Y’hudah from K’riot, who turned traitor.

17 Then he came down with them and stood on a level place. A large crowd of his talmidim was there with great numbers of people from all Y’hudah, Yerushalayim and the coast around Tzor and Tzidon; they had come to hear him and be healed of their diseases. 18 Those who were troubled with unclean spirits were being healed; 19 and the whole crowd was trying to touch him, because power kept going out from him, healing everyone. 20 He looked at his talmidim and said:

“How blessed are you poor!
    for the Kingdom of God is yours.

21 “How blessed are you who are hungry!
    for you will be filled.

“How blessed are you who are crying now!
    for you will laugh.

22 “How blessed you are whenever people hate you and ostracize you and insult you and denounce you as a criminal on account of the Son of Man. 23 Be glad when that happens; yes, dance for joy! because in heaven your reward is great. For that is just how their fathers treated the prophets.

24 “But woe to you who are rich,
    for you have already had all the comfort you will get!

25 “Woe to you who are full now,
    for you will go hungry!
“Woe to you who are laughing now,
    for you will mourn and cry!

26 “Woe to you when people speak well of you, for that is just how their fathers treated the false prophets!

27 Nevertheless, to you who are listening, what I say is this:

“Love your enemies!
    Do good to those who hate you,
28 bless those who curse you,
    pray for those who mistreat you.

29 “If someone hits you on one cheek,
    offer the other too;
if someone takes your coat,
    let him have your shirt as well.

30 “If someone asks you for something,
    give it to him;
if someone takes what belongs to you,
    don’t demand it back.

31 “Treat other people as you would like them to treat you. 32 What credit is it to you if you love only those who love you? Why, even sinners love those who love them. 33 What credit is it to you if you do good only to those who do good to you? Even sinners do that. 34 What credit is it to you if you lend only to those who you expect will pay you back? Even sinners lend to each other, expecting to be repaid in full. 35 But love your enemies, do good, and lend expecting nothing back! Your reward will be great, and you will be children of Ha‘Elyon; for he is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked. 36 Show compassion, just as your Father shows compassion.

37 “Don’t judge,
    and you won’t be judged.
Don’t condemn,
    and you won’t be condemned.

“Forgive,
    and you will be forgiven.
38 Give,
    and you will receive gifts —

the full measure, compacted, shaken together and overflowing, will be put right in your lap. For the measure with which you measure out will be used to measure back to you!”

39 He also told them a parable: “Can one blind man lead another blind man? Won’t they both fall into a pit? 40 A talmid is not above his rabbi; but each one, when he is fully trained, will be like his rabbi. 41 So why do you see the splinter in your brother’s eye, but not notice the log in your own eye? 42 How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me remove the splinter from your eye,’ when you yourself don’t see the log in your own eye? You hypocrite! First take the log out of your own eye; then you will see clearly, so that you can remove the splinter from your brother’s eye!

Lord!’ but not do what I say? 47 Everyone who comes to me, hears my words and acts on them — I will show you what he is like: 48 he is like someone building a house who dug deep and laid the foundation on bedrock. When a flood came, the torrent beat against that house but couldn’t shake it, because it was constructed well. 49 And whoever hears my words but doesn’t act on them is like someone who built his house on the ground without any foundation. As soon as the river struck it, it collapsed and that house became a horrendous wreck!”

Jesus Is Lord of the Sabbath(A)

Now (B)it happened [a]on the second Sabbath after the first that He went through the grainfields. And His disciples plucked the heads of grain and ate them, rubbing them in their hands. And some of the Pharisees said to them, “Why are you doing (C)what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath?”

But Jesus answering them said, “Have you not even read this, (D)what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him: how he went into the house of God, took and ate the showbread, and also gave some to those with him, (E)which is not lawful for any but the priests to eat?” And He said to them, “The Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath.”

Healing on the Sabbath(F)

(G)Now it happened on another Sabbath, also, that He entered the synagogue and taught. And a man was there whose right hand was withered. And they were healed. 19 And the whole multitude (U)sought to (V)touch Him, for (W)power went out from Him and healed them all.

The Beatitudes(X)

20 Then He lifted up His eyes toward His disciples, and said:

(Y)“Blessed are you poor,
For yours is the kingdom of God.
21 (Z)Blessed are you who hunger now,
For you shall be (AA)filled.[e]
(AB)Blessed are you who weep now,
For you shall (AC)laugh.
22 (AD)Blessed are you when men hate you,
And when they (AE)exclude you,

Jesus Pronounces Woes

24 “But(AH) woe to you (AI)who are rich,

For you shall hunger.

For you shall mourn and (AM)weep.
26 (AN)Woe [f]to you when [g]all men speak well of you,
For so did their fathers to the false prophets.

Love Your Enemies(AO)

Will they not both fall into the ditch? 40 (BK)A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his teacher. 41 (BL)And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not perceive the plank in your own eye? 42 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me remove the speck that is in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the plank that is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck that is in your brother’s eye.

A Tree Is Known by Its Fruit(BM)

43 (BN)“For a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. 44 For (BO)every tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble bush. 45 (BP)A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil [i]treasure of his heart brings forth evil. Build on the Rock(BR)

Jesus är sabbatens Herre

(A) En sabbat hände det att Jesus gick genom några sädesfält, och hans lärjungar ryckte av ax[a] som de gnuggade i händerna och åt. (B) Men några av fariseerna sade: "Varför gör ni sådant som inte är tillåtet på sabbaten?" (C) Jesus svarade dem: "Har ni inte läst vad David gjorde[b] när han och hans män var hungriga? (D) Han gick in i Guds hus och tog skådebröden[c] och åt och gav till dem som var med honom. De bröden fick bara prästerna äta." Sedan sade han: "Människosonen är sabbatens Herre."

(E) En annan sabbat gick han in i synagogan och undervisade. Där fanns en man vars högra hand var förtvinad. (F) De skriftlärda och fariseerna vaktade noga på Jesus för att se om han skulle bota på sabbaten, för de ville få något att anklaga honom för.

Men han visste vad de tänkte och sade till mannen med den förtvinade handen: "Stå upp och ställ dig i mitten." Då reste han sig och gick fram. Jesus sade till dem: "Jag frågar er: Är det tillåtet att göra gott på sabbaten eller att[d] göra ont? Att rädda liv eller att döda?" 10 Han såg sig omkring på dem alla och sade till mannen: "Räck fram din hand." Mannen gjorde så, och hans hand var nu återställd.

11 Men de fylldes av vrede[e] och började diskutera med varandra vad de skulle göra med Jesus.

Jesus utser tolv apostlar

12 Vid den tiden gick Jesus upp på berget för att be, och han var hela natten i bön till Gud. 13 (G) När det blev dag, kallade han till sig sina lärjungar och valde ut tolv av dem, som han kallade apostlar: 14 Simon, som han också gav namnet Petrus, hans bror Andreas, Jakob och Johannes, Filippus och Bartolomeus, 15 Matteus och Tomas, Jakob, Alfeus son, och Simon som kallades seloten, 16 (H) Judas, Jakobs son[f], och Judas Iskariot[g], han som blev förrädare.

JESU SLÄTTPREDIKAN (Kap 6:17-49)

Folkskaror samlas på slätten

17 (I) Jesus gick ner tillsammans med dem och stannade på en slätt[h]. Där var en stor skara av hans lärjungar och mycket folk från hela Judeen och Jerusalem och från kusten vid Tyrus och Sidon. 18 De hade kommit för att höra honom och bli botade från sina sjukdomar. Även de som plågades av orena andar blev botade. 19 (J) Och allt folket försökte röra vid honom, eftersom kraft gick ut från honom och botade alla.

Saligprisningar

20 (K) Jesus lyfte blicken, såg på sina lärjungar och sade:

"Saliga är ni som är fattiga,
        för Guds rike tillhör er.
21     (L) Saliga är ni som hungrar nu,
        för ni ska bli mättade.
    Saliga är ni som gråter nu,
        för ni ska få skratta.

22 (M) Saliga är ni när människorna hatar er och när de utesluter er och hånar och smutskastar ert namn för Människosonens skull. 23 (N) Gläd er på den dagen och hoppa av glädje, för er lön blir stor i himlen. På samma sätt gjorde deras fäder med profeterna.

24 (O) Men ve er som är rika!
        Ni har fått ut er tröst.
25     (P) Ve er som är mätta nu!
        Ni kommer att hungra.
    Ve er som skrattar nu!
        Ni kommer att sörja och gråta.

26 (Q) Ve er när alla människor talar väl om er! För på samma sätt gjorde deras fäder med de falska profeterna.

Älska era fiender

27 (R) Men till er som lyssnar säger jag: Älska era fiender och gör gott mot dem som hatar er. 28 (S) Välsigna dem som förbannar er och be för dem som förolämpar er. 29 (T) Om någon slår dig på ena kinden, vänd då också andra kinden till. Och om någon tar ifrån dig manteln[i], så låt honom ta tunikan[j] också. 30 (U) Ge åt alla som ber dig, och om någon tar det som är ditt, så kräv det inte tillbaka.

31 (V) Så som ni vill att människorna ska göra mot er, så ska ni göra mot dem. 32 (W) Om ni älskar dem som älskar er, ska ni ha tack för det? Även syndare älskar dem som visar dem kärlek. 33 Och om ni gör gott mot dem som gör gott mot er, ska ni ha tack för det? Även syndare gör samma sak. 34 Och om ni lånar ut till dem som ni hoppas ska ge tillbaka, ska ni ha tack för det? Även syndare lånar ut till syndare för att få lika tillbaka.

35 Nej, älska era fiender och gör gott och låna ut utan att hoppas få något igen. Då ska er lön bli stor, och ni ska bli den Högstes barn, för han är god mot de otacksamma och onda. 36 Var barmhärtiga, så som er Far är barmhärtig.

Flisan och bjälken

37 (X) Döm inte, så blir ni inte dömda. Fördöm inte, så blir ni inte fördömda. Förlåt, så blir ni förlåtna. 38 (Y) Ge, så ska ni få. Ett gott mått, packat, skakat och rågat, ska ni få i er famn. Med det mått som ni mäter med ska det mätas upp åt er."

39 (Z) Han gav dem också en liknelse: "En blind kan väl inte leda en blind? Faller inte båda i gropen? 40 (AA) En lärjunge står inte över sin lärare. Men när han är fullärd blir han som sin lärare.

41 (AB) Varför ser du flisan i din broders öga, men märker inte bjälken i ditt eget öga? 42 Hur kan du säga till din broder: Broder, låt mig ta bort flisan ur ditt öga, när du inte ser bjälken i ditt eget öga? Hycklare[k], ta först bort bjälken ur ditt eget öga. Då ser du klart nog att ta bort flisan ur din broders öga.

Av frukten känner man trädet

43 (AC) Inget gott träd ger dålig frukt, och inget dåligt träd ger god frukt. 44 (AD) Varje träd känns igen på sin frukt. Man plockar väl inte fikon från tistlar eller vindruvor från törnbuskar? 45 En god människa bär fram det som är gott ur sitt hjärtas goda förråd, och en ond människa bär fram det som är ont ur sitt hjärtas onda förråd. Vad hjärtat är fullt av, det talar munnen.

Liknelsen om de två husbyggarna

46 (AE) Varför kallar ni mig ’Herre, Herre’ när ni inte gör vad jag säger? 47 (AF) Den som kommer till mig och hör mina ord och handlar efter dem – jag ska visa er vem han liknar. 48 Han liknar en man som byggde ett hus och grävde djupt och lade grunden på klippan. När översvämningen kom vräkte sig floden mot huset, men den kunde inte rubba det eftersom det var välbyggt.

49 Men den som hör och inte handlar liknar en man som byggde ett hus på marken, utan grund. Floden vräkte sig mot huset och det rasade genast, och förödelsen blev stor för det huset."
