6 And it came to pass on the second sabbath after the first, that he went through the corn fields; and his disciples plucked the ears of corn, and did eat, rubbing them in their hands.
2 And certain of the Pharisees said unto them, Why do ye that which is not lawful to do on the sabbath days?
3 And Jesus answering them said, Have ye not read so much as this, what David did, when himself was an hungred, and they which were with him;
4 How he went into the house of God, and did take and eat the shewbread, and gave also to them that were with him; which it is not lawful to eat but for the priests alone?
5 And he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
6 And it came to pass also on another sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue and taught: and there was a man whose right hand was withered.
7 And the scribes and Pharisees watched him, whether he would heal on the sabbath day; that they might find an accusation against him.
8 But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man which had the withered hand, Rise up, and stand forth in the midst. And he arose and stood forth.
9 Then said Jesus unto them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it?
10 And looking round about upon them all, he said unto the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he did so: and his hand was restored whole as the other.
11 And they were filled with madness; and communed one with another what they might do to Jesus.
12 And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.
13 And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles;
14 Simon, (whom he also named Peter,) and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew,
15 Matthew and Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called Zelotes,
16 And Judas the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, which also was the traitor.
17 And he came down with them, and stood in the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases;
18 And they that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed.
19 And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue out of him, and healed them all.
20 And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.
21 Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh.
22 Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake.
23 Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets.
24 But woe unto you that are rich! for ye have received your consolation.
25 Woe unto you that are full! for ye shall hunger. Woe unto you that laugh now! for ye shall mourn and weep.
26 Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets.
27 But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you,
28 Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.
29 And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloak forbid not to take thy coat also.
30 Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again.
31 And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.
32 For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them.
33 And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same.
34 And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again.
35 But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.
36 Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.
37 Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:
38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
39 And he spake a parable unto them, Can the blind lead the blind? shall they not both fall into the ditch?
40 The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master.
41 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
42 Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother's eye.
43 For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
44 For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.
45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.
46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
47 Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:
48 He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.
49 But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.

6 ある安息日（神の定めた休息日）のことです。イエスと弟子たちは麦畑の中を歩いていました。弟子たちは歩きながら、麦の穂を摘んでは、手でもみ、殻を取って食べました。 2 パリサイ人たちが目ざとくそれを見つけ、非難しました。「どう見ても律法違反だ！ 弟子たちのやっていることは、明らかに刈り入れではないか。安息日の労働はユダヤのおきてで禁じられているというのに。」 3 イエスは、お答えになりました。「聖書を読んだことがないのですか。ダビデ王とその家来たちが空腹になった時、どうしたでしょうか。 4 ダビデ王は神殿に入り、主に供えられた特別なパンを取って食べたではありませんか。これはおきてに反することでしたが、自分ばかりか、家来たちにも分けてやりました。」 5 また、こうも言われました。「わたしは安息日の主です。」
6 今度は別の安息日のことです。イエスは会堂で教えておられました。ちょうどそこに、右手の不自由な男が居合わせました。 7 安息日だというので、律法の専門家やパリサイ人たちは、イエスがこの男を治すかどうか、様子をうかがっていました。何とかしてイエスを訴える口実を見つけようと必死だったのです。 8 彼らの魂胆を見抜いたイエスは、その男に、「さあ、みんなの真ん中に立ちなさい」とお命じになりました。男が言われたとおりにすると、 9 イエスはパリサイ人たちに、「ひとつ聞きたいのですが、安息日に良いことをするのと悪いことをするのと、どちらが正しいでしょうか。人のいのちを救うのと、いのちを奪うのと、どちらが正しいでしょうか」とお尋ねになりました。 10 それから、会衆をぐるりと見回し、男に、「さあ、手を伸ばしなさい」と言われました。男がそのとおりにすると、なんと彼の右手はすっかり治っていました。 11 これを見たパリサイ人たちはすっかり逆上し、イエスを殺そうとたくらみ始めました。
十二使徒を選ぶ
12 それからまもなく、イエスは山へ行き、夜通し祈られました。 13 夜明けごろ、弟子たちを呼び寄せると、その中から十二人を選び、「使徒」という名をおつけになりました。 14-16 十二人の名前は次のとおりです。シモン〔イエスはペテロともお呼びになった〕、アンデレ〔シモンの兄弟〕、ヤコブ、ヨハネ、ピリポ、バルトロマイ、マタイ、トマス、ヤコブ〔アルパヨの息子〕、シモン〔「熱心党」というユダヤ教の急進派グループのメンバー〕、ユダ〔タダイとも呼ばれた〕、イスカリオテのユダ〔後にイエスを裏切った男〕。
17-18 イエスは弟子たちといっしょに山を降り、広々とした所にお立ちになりました。すると、ほかの大ぜいの弟子と群衆が集まって来て、たちまちイエスの回りは人の波で埋めつくされました。ユダヤ全地、エルサレム、はるか北のツロやシドンの海岸地方などから、イエスの話を聞き、また病気を治してもらおうと、はるばるやって来た人ばかりです。ここでは、悪霊に苦しめられている人もいやされました。 19 だれもがみな、イエスにさわろうと押し合いへし合いの大騒ぎです。さわれば、病気を治す力がイエスから出て、どんな病気もいやされたからです。
20 それからイエスは、弟子たちのほうをふり向き、話し始められました。「あなたがた貧しい人は幸福です。神の国はあなたがたのものだからです。 21 いま空腹な人は幸福です。やがて十分満足するようになるからです。泣いている人は幸福です。もうすぐ笑うようになるからです。 22 わたしの弟子だというので、憎まれたり、追い出されたり、悪口を言われたりするなら、なんと幸いなことでしょう。 23 そんなことになったら、心から喜びなさい。躍り上がって喜びなさい。やがて天国で、目をみはるばかりの報いがいただけるからです。そして、同じような扱いを受けた、昔の預言者たちの仲間入りができるのです。
24 これとは反対に、金持ちたちを待ち受けているのは悲しみだけです。彼らの幸福はこの地上限りのものだからです。 25 肥え太り、今は栄えていても、やがて飢え渇く日が来れば、彼らの笑いは一瞬にして悲しみに変わるでしょう。 26 ほめそやされる者はあわれです。偽預言者はいつの時代でも、そのような扱いを受けたからです。
27 いいですか、よく聞きなさい。あなたの敵を愛しなさい。あなたを憎む者によくしてあげなさい。 28 あなたをのろう者を祝福しなさい。あなたを侮辱する者に神の祝福を祈り求めなさい。 29 もしだれかが頬をなぐったら、もう一方の頬もなぐらせなさい。また、もしだれかが上着を取ろうとしたら、下着もつけてやりなさい。 30 持ち物は何でも、ほしがる人にあげなさい。盗難にあっても、取り返そうと気をもんではいけません。
31 また、人からしてほしいと思うことを、そのとおり人にもしてあげなさい。 32 自分を愛してくれる人だけを愛したところで、ほめられたことでも何でもありません。神を知らない人でさえ、それぐらいのことはします。 33 よくしてくれる人にだけよくしたところで、何の意味があるのでしょう。罪人でさえ、それぐらいのことはします。 34 返してもらえる人にだけお金を貸したところで、善行と言えるでしょうか。全額戻るとわかっていれば、どんな悪党でも仲間にお金を貸してやります。
35 自分の敵を愛しなさい。彼らによくしてやり、返してもらうことなど当てにせずに貸してあげなさい。そうすれば、天からすばらしい報いがあり、あなたがたは神の子どもになれるのです。神は、恩知らずの者や極悪人にも、あわれみ深い方だからです。 36 あなたがたも、天の父のように、あわれみ深い者になりなさい。 37 人のあら捜しをしたり、悪口を言ったりしてはいけません。自分もそうされないためです。人には広い心で接しなさい。そうすれば、彼らも同じようにしてくれるでしょう。 38 与えなさい。そうすれば与えられます。彼らは、量りのますに、押し込んだり、揺すり入れたりしてたっぷり量り、あふれるばかりにして返してくれます。自分が量るそのはかりで、自分も量り返されるのです。」
39 イエスはさらに、もう一つのたとえを話されました。「盲人が盲人の道案内をしたら、どうなるでしょう。一人が穴に落ち込めば、もう一人も巻き添えになるでしょう。 40 弟子が師より偉くなれますか。しかし、一生懸命努力すれば、自分の師と同じぐらいにはなれます。
41 また、自分の目に大きなごみが入っているのに、どうしてほかの人の目の中にある、小さなちりを気にするのでしょう。 42 自分の目の大きなごみで、よく見えもしないのに、どうして、『あなたの目にごみが入ってるから、取ってあげよう』などと言うのでしょう。偽善者よ。まず自分の目のごみを取り除きなさい。そうすれば、はっきり見えるようになって、ほかの人の小さなごみを取ってあげることもできるのです。
43 おいしい実をつける木が、まずい実をつけるはずはないし、まずい実をつける木が、おいしい実をつけるはずもありません。 44 つまり、木は実によって見分けることができるのです。いばらにいちじくの実はならないし、野ばらにぶどうの実はなりません。 45 良い人は、良い心から良い行いを生み出します。悪い人は、隠された悪い心から悪い行いを生み出します。心に秘めたことが、ことばになってあふれ出るからです。
46 なぜ、『主よ、主よ』と呼びながら、わたしに従おうとはしないのですか。 47 そばに来て、わたしの教えを聞き、そのとおり実行する人はみな、 48 地面を深く掘って、岩の上に土台をすえ、その上に家を建てる人のようです。洪水になり、激流に洗われても、家はびくともしません。土台がしっかりしているからです。 49 しかし、わたしのことばを聞いても実行しない人は、ちょうど、土台なしで家を建てる人のようです。水が押し寄せると、家はあとかたもなく流されてしまいます。」

Jesus Is Lord of the Sabbath
6 (A)On a Sabbath,[a] while he was going through the grainfields, his disciples (B)plucked and ate some heads of grain, rubbing them in their hands. 2 But some of the Pharisees said, (C)“Why are you doing (D)what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath?” 3 And Jesus answered them, (E)“Have you not read (F)what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him: 4 how he entered the house of God and took and ate (G)the bread of the Presence, (H)which is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and also gave it to those with him?” 5 And he said to them, (I)“The Son of Man is lord of the Sabbath.”
A Man with a Withered Hand
6 On another Sabbath, (J)he entered the synagogue (K)and was teaching, and a man was there whose right hand was withered. 7 And the scribes and the Pharisees (L)watched him, to see whether he would heal on the Sabbath, (M)so that they might find a reason to accuse him. 8 But (N)he knew their thoughts, and he said to the man with the withered hand, “Come and stand here.” And he rose and stood there. 9 And Jesus said to them, “I ask you, (O)is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do harm, to save life or to destroy it?” 10 And (P)after looking around at them all he said to him, “Stretch out your hand.” And (Q)he did so, and his hand was restored. 11 But they were filled with (R)fury and discussed with one another what they might do to Jesus.
The Twelve Apostles

(AG)And those who were troubled with unclean spirits were cured. 19 And all the crowd (AH)sought to touch him, for (AI)power came out from him and healed them all.
The Beatitudes
20 And (AJ)he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, (AK)and said:
“Blessed are you who are poor, for (AL)yours is the kingdom of God.
21 (AM)“Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you shall be satisfied.
(AN)“Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.
22 “Blessed are you when (AO)people hate you and when they (AP)exclude you and revile you and (AQ)spurn your name as evil, (AR)on account of the Son of Man! 23 (AS)Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for (AT)so their fathers did to the prophets.
Jesus Pronounces Woes

25 “Woe to you who are full now, for (AX)you shall be hungry.

26 “Woe to you, (BA)when all people speak well of you, for (BB)so their fathers did to (BC)the false prophets.
Love Your Enemies
27 “But I say to you who hear, (BD)Love your enemies, (BE)do good to those who hate you, 28 (BF)bless those who curse you, (BG)pray for those who abuse you. 29 (BH)To one who (BI)strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also, and from one who takes away your cloak do not withhold your tunic[b] either. 30 (BJ)Give to everyone who begs from you, and from one who takes away your goods do not demand them back. 31 And (BK)as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them.
32 (BL)“If you love those who love you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who do good to you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. 34 And (BM)if you (BN)lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to get back the same amount. 35 But (BO)love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and (BP)you will be sons of (BQ)the Most High, for (BR)he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil. 36 (BS)Be merciful, even as (BT)your Father is merciful.
Judging Others
37 (BU)(BV)“Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; (BW)forgive, and you will be forgiven; 38 (BX)give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put (BY)into your lap. For (BZ)with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”
39 He also told them a parable: (CA)“Can a blind man lead a blind man? Will they not both fall into a pit? 40 (CB)A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone when he is (CC)fully trained will be like his teacher. 41 (CD)Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but (CE)do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 42 How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take out the speck that is in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the log that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck that is in your brother's eye.
A Tree and Its Fruit
43 “For (CF)no good tree bears bad fruit, nor again does a bad tree bear good fruit, 44 for (CG)each tree is known by its own fruit. For figs are not gathered from thornbushes, nor are grapes picked from a bramble bush. 45 (CH)The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces (CI)evil, (CJ)for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
Build Your House on the Rock
46 (CK)“Why (CL)do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you? 47 (CM)Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: 48 he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.[c] 49 (CN)But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and (CO)the ruin of that house was great.”
