³⁵ Instead, love your enemies, do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return.^[a] Your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, for he himself is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked.^(A)

⁴⁴ But I say to you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,^{(A) 45} so that you may be children of your Father in heaven, for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good and sends rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous.^(B)

³⁵ By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”^(A)

⁸ But God proves his love for us in that while we still were sinners Christ died for us.^{(A) 9} Much more surely, therefore, since we have now been justified by his blood, will we be saved through him from the wrath of God.^{[a](B) 10} For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more surely, having been reconciled, will we be saved by his life.^(C)

³⁵ “If any of your kin fall into difficulty and become dependent on you,^[a] you shall support them; they shall live with you as though resident aliens.^{(A) 36} Do not take interest in advance or otherwise make a profit from them, but fear your God; let them live with you.^{(B) 37} You shall not lend them your money at interest taken in advance or provide them food at a profit.

⁹ For you know the generous act^[a] of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that by his poverty you might become rich.^(A)

God Is Love

⁷ Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.^{(A) 8} Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love. ⁹ God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might live through him.^{(B) 10} In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins.^{(C) 11} Beloved, since God loved us so much, we also ought to love one another.^(D)
