The Beatitudes(A)

20 Then He lifted up His eyes toward His disciples, and said:

(B)“Blessed are you poor,
For yours is the kingdom of God.
21 (C)Blessed are you who hunger now,
For you shall be (D)filled.[a]
(E)Blessed are you who weep now,
For you shall (F)laugh.
22 (G)Blessed are you when men hate you,
And when they (H)exclude you,
And revile you, and cast out your name as evil,
For the Son of Man’s sake.
23 (I)Rejoice in that day and leap for joy!
For indeed your reward is great in heaven,
For (J)in like manner their fathers did to the prophets.

Jesus Pronounces Woes

24 “But(K) woe to you (L)who are rich,
For (M)you have received your consolation.
25 (N)Woe to you who are full,
For you shall hunger.
(O)Woe to you who laugh now,
For you shall mourn and (P)weep.
26 (Q)Woe [b]to you when [c]all men speak well of you,
For so did their fathers to the false prophets.

20 And he, having lifted up his eyes to his disciples, said: `Happy the poor -- because yours is the reign of God.

21 `Happy those hungering now -- because ye shall be filled. `Happy those weeping now -- because ye shall laugh.

22 `Happy are ye when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you, and shall reproach, and shall cast forth your name as evil, for the Son of Man's sake --

23 rejoice in that day, and leap, for lo, your reward [is] great in the heaven, for according to these things were their fathers doing to the prophets.

24 `But wo to you -- the rich, because ye have got your comfort.

25 `Wo to you who have been filled -- because ye shall hunger. `Wo to you who are laughing now -- because ye shall mourn and weep.

26 `Wo to you when all men shall speak well of you -- for according to these things were their fathers doing to false prophets.

Blessed are [c]you who weep now, for you will laugh. 22 (C)Blessed are you when the people hate you, and when they [d](D)exclude you, and insult you, and scorn your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man. 23 Rejoice on that day and (E)jump for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven. For their fathers used to [e]treat the prophets (F)the same way. 24 But woe to (G)you who are rich, for (H)you are receiving your comfort in full. 25 Woe to you who [f]are well-fed now, for you will be hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you will mourn and weep. 26 Woe to you when all the people speak well of you; for their fathers used to [g]treat the (I)false prophets the same way.
