⁴ Then Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds, ^(A)“I find no guilt in this man.”

³⁸ Pilate said to him, “What is truth?”

After he had said this, ^(A)he went back outside to the Jews and told them, ^(B)“I find no guilt in him.

^22 (A)He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth.

¹⁹ but ^(A)with the precious blood of Christ, like that of ^(B)a lamb ^(C)without blemish or spot.

²² A third time he said to them, “Why? ^(A)What evil has he done? ^(B)I have found in him no guilt deserving death. ^(C)I will therefore punish and release him.”

¹⁴ and said to them, “You brought me this man ^(A)as one who was misleading the people. And ^(B)after examining him before you, behold, I ^(C)did not find this man guilty of any of your charges against him. ¹⁵ Neither did Herod, for ^(D)he sent him back to us. Look, nothing deserving death has been done by him.

¹⁴ And Pilate said to them, “Why? ^(A)What evil has he done?” But they shouted all the more, “Crucify him.”

¹⁸ For Christ also ^(A)suffered^{[a] (B)}once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, ^(C)that he might bring us to God, being put to death ^(D)in the flesh but made alive ^(E)in the spirit,

²⁶ For it was indeed fitting that we should have such a high priest, ^(A)holy, innocent, unstained, ^(B)separated from sinners, and ^(C)exalted above the heavens.

⁴ Pilate went out again and said to them, “See, I am bringing him out to you that you may know that ^(A)I find no guilt in him.” ⁵ So Jesus came out, wearing ^(B)the crown of thorns and the purple robe. Pilate said to them, ^(C)“Behold the man!” ⁶ When the chief priests and the officers saw him, they cried out, “Crucify him, crucify him!” Pilate said to them, ^(D)“Take him yourselves and crucify him, for ^(E)I find no guilt in him.”
