The Last Supper(A)(B)(C)(D)(E)

Then came the day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed.(F) Jesus sent Peter and John,(G) saying, “Go and make preparations for us to eat the Passover.”

“Where do you want us to prepare for it?” they asked.

10 He replied, “As you enter the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him to the house that he enters, 11 and say to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher asks: Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’ 12 He will show you a large room upstairs, all furnished. Make preparations there.”

13 They left and found things just as Jesus had told them.(H) So they prepared the Passover.

14 When the hour came, Jesus and his apostles(I) reclined at the table.(J) 15 And he said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.(K) 16 For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God.”(L)

17 After taking the cup, he gave thanks and said, “Take this and divide it among you. 18 For I tell you I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”

19 And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it,(M) and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.”

20 In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant(N) in my blood, which is poured out for you.[a] 21 But the hand of him who is going to betray me is with mine on the table.(O) 22 The Son of Man(P) will go as it has been decreed.(Q) But woe to that man who betrays him!” 23 They began to question among themselves which of them it might be who would do this.

24 A dispute also arose among them as to which of them was considered to be greatest.(R) 25 Jesus said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who exercise authority over them call themselves Benefactors. 26 But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest,(S) and the one who rules like the one who serves.(T) 27 For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.(U) 28 You are those who have stood by me in my trials. 29 And I confer on you a kingdom,(V) just as my Father conferred one on me, 30 so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom(W) and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.(X)

31 “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked(Y) to sift all of you as wheat.(Z) 32 But I have prayed for you,(AA) Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”(AB)

33 But he replied, “Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death.”(AC)

34 Jesus answered, “I tell you, Peter, before the rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know me.”

35 Then Jesus asked them, “When I sent you without purse, bag or sandals,(AD) did you lack anything?”

“Nothing,” they answered.

36 He said to them, “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one. 37 It is written: ‘And he was numbered with the transgressors’[b];(AE) and I tell you that this must be fulfilled in me. Yes, what is written about me is reaching its fulfillment.”

38 The disciples said, “See, Lord, here are two swords.”

“That’s enough!” he replied.

Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed.

And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat.

And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare?

10 And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in.

11 And ye shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?

12 And he shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready.

13 And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.

14 And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.

15 And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer:

16 For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.

17 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves:

18 For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.

19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.

20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.

21 But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table.

22 And truly the Son of man goeth, as it was determined: but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed!

23 And they began to enquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.

24 And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest.

25 And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors.

26 But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.

27 For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth.

28 Ye are they which have continued with me in my temptations.

29 And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me;

30 That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:

32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.

33 And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death.

34 And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.

35 And he said unto them, When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing.

36 Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.

37 For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end.

38 And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough.

Jesus and His Disciples Prepare the Passover

(A)Then came the Day of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover must be [a]killed. And He sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us, that we may eat.”

So they said to Him, “Where do You want us to prepare?”

10 And He said to them, “Behold, when you have entered the city, a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him into the house which he enters. 11 Then you shall say to the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says to you, “Where is the guest room where I may eat the Passover with My disciples?” ’ 12 Then he will show you a large, furnished upper room; there make ready.”

13 So they went and (B)found it just as He had said to them, and they prepared the Passover.

Jesus Institutes the Lord’s Supper

14 (C)When the hour had come, He sat down, and the [b]twelve apostles with Him. 15 Then He said to them, “With fervent desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; 16 for I say to you, I will no longer eat of it (D)until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.”

17 Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, “Take this and divide it among yourselves; 18 for (E)I say to you, [c]I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”

19 (F)And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My (G)body which is given for you; (H)do this in remembrance of Me.”

20 Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, (I)“This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you. 21 (J)But behold, the hand of My betrayer is with Me on the table. 22 (K)And truly the Son of Man goes (L)as it has been determined, but woe to that man by whom He is betrayed!”

23 (M)Then they began to question among themselves, which of them it was who would do this thing.

The Disciples Argue About Greatness

24 (N)Now there was also a dispute among them, as to which of them should be considered the greatest. 25 (O)And He said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and those who exercise authority over them are called ‘benefactors.’ 26 (P)But not so among you; on the contrary, (Q)he who is greatest among you, let him be as the younger, and he who governs as he who serves. 27 (R)For who is greater, he who sits at the table, or he who serves? Is it not he who sits at the table? Yet (S)I am among you as the One who serves.

28 “But you are those who have continued with Me in (T)My trials. 29 And (U)I bestow upon you a kingdom, just as My Father bestowed one upon Me, 30 that (V)you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, (W)and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”

Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial(X)

31 [d]And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, (Y)Satan has asked for you, that he may (Z)sift you as wheat. 32 But (AA)I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, (AB)strengthen your brethren.”

33 But he said to Him, “Lord, I am ready to go with You, both to prison and to death.”

34 (AC)Then He said, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster shall not crow this day before you will deny three times that you know Me.”

Supplies for the Road

35 (AD)And He said to them, “When I sent you without money bag, knapsack, and sandals, did you lack anything?”

So they said, “Nothing.”

36 Then He said to them, “But now, he who has a money bag, let him take it, and likewise a knapsack; and he who has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one. 37 For I say to you that this which is written must still be [e]accomplished in Me: (AE)‘And He was numbered with the transgressors.’ For the things concerning Me have an end.”

38 So they said, “Lord, look, here are two swords.”

And He said to them, “It is enough.”

The Passover with the Disciples

(A)Then came (B)the day of Unleavened Bread, on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed. So Jesus[a] sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us, that we may eat it.” They said to him, “Where will you have us prepare it?” 10 He said to them, “Behold, when you have entered the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him into the house that he enters 11 and tell the master of the house, (C)‘The Teacher says to you, Where is (D)the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’ 12 And he will show you (E)a large upper room furnished; prepare it there.” 13 And they went and found it (F)just as he had told them, and they prepared the Passover.

Institution of the Lord's Supper

14 (G)And when the hour came, he reclined at table, and the apostles with him. 15 And he said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. 16 For I tell you I will not eat it[b] (H)until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” 17 And he took a cup, and (I)when he had given thanks he said, “Take this, and divide it among yourselves. 18 (J)For I tell you that from now on I will not drink of the fruit of the vine (K)until the kingdom of God comes.” 19 (L)And he took bread, and (M)when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, (N)“This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” 20 And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, (O)“This cup that is poured out for you is (P)the new (Q)covenant in my blood.[c] 21 (R)But behold, the hand of him who betrays me is (S)with me on the table. 22 For the Son of Man goes (T)as it has been determined, but woe to that man by whom he is betrayed!” 23 And they began to question one another, which of them it could be who was going to do this.

Who Is the Greatest?

24 (U)A dispute also arose among them, as to which of them was to be regarded as the greatest. 25 (V)And he said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles (W)exercise lordship over them, and those in authority over them are called benefactors. 26 (X)But not so with you. Rather, let (Y)the greatest among you become as the youngest, and the leader as one who serves. 27 For who is the greater, (Z)one who reclines at table or one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at table? But (AA)I am among you as the one who serves.

28 “You are those who have stayed with me (AB)in my trials, 29 and (AC)I assign to you, as my Father assigned to me, a kingdom, 30 (AD)that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and (AE)sit on thrones judging (AF)the twelve tribes of Israel.

Jesus Foretells Peter's Denial

31 “Simon, Simon, behold, (AG)Satan demanded to have you,[d] (AH)that he might sift you like wheat, 32 but (AI)I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, (AJ)strengthen your brothers.” 33 Peter[e] said to him, “Lord, I am ready to go with you both (AK)to prison and (AL)to death.” 34 (AM)Jesus[f] said, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow this day, until you deny three times that you know me.”

Scripture Must Be Fulfilled in Jesus

35 And he said to them, (AN)“When I sent you out with no moneybag or knapsack or sandals, did you lack anything?” They said, “Nothing.” 36 He said to them, “But now let the one who has a moneybag take it, and likewise a knapsack. And let the one who has no sword sell his cloak and buy one. 37 For I tell you that (AO)this Scripture must be fulfilled in me: (AP)‘And he was numbered with the transgressors.’ For (AQ)what is written about me has its fulfillment.” 38 And they said, “Look, Lord, here are two (AR)swords.” And he said to them, (AS)“It is enough.”

(A)Now the first day of Unleavened Bread came, on which (B)the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed. And so Jesus sent (C)Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us, so that we may eat it.” They said to Him, “Where do You want us to prepare it?” 10 And He said to them, “When you have entered the city, a man carrying a pitcher of water will meet you; follow him into the house that he enters. 11 And you shall say to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher says to you, “Where is the guest room in which I may eat the Passover with My disciples?”’ 12 And he will show you a large, furnished upstairs room; prepare it there.” 13 And they left and found everything just as He had told them; and they prepared the Passover.

The Lord’s Supper

14 (D)When the hour came, He reclined at the table, and (E)the apostles with Him. 15 And He said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; 16 for I say to you, I shall not eat it again (F)until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” 17 (G)And when He had taken a cup and (H)given thanks, He said, “Take this and share it among yourselves; 18 for (I)I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine from now on until the kingdom of God comes.” 19 And when He had taken some bread and (J)given thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body, which is being given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” 20 And in the same way He took the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup, which is (K)poured out for you, is the (L)new covenant in My blood. 21 (M)But behold, the hand of the one betraying Me is with [a]Mine on the table. 22 For indeed, the Son of Man is going (N)as it has been determined; but woe to that man by whom He is betrayed!” 23 And they began to debate among themselves which one of them it was who was going to do this.

Who Is Greatest

24 And (O)a dispute also developed among them as to which one of them was regarded as being the greatest. 25 (P)And He said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles domineer over them; and those who have authority over them are called ‘Benefactors.’ 26 But it is not this way for you; (Q)rather, the one who is the greatest among you must become like (R)the youngest, and the leader like the servant. 27 For (S)who is greater, the one who reclines at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at the table? But (T)I am among you as the one who serves.

28 “You are the ones who have stood by Me in My (U)trials; 29 and just as My Father has granted Me a (V)kingdom, I grant you 30 that you may (W)eat and drink at My table in My (X)kingdom, and (Y)you will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

31 “Simon, Simon, behold, (Z)Satan has [b]demanded to (AA)sift you men like wheat; 32 but I (AB)have prayed for [c]you, that [d]your faith will not fail; and [e]you, when you have [f]turned back, (AC)strengthen your brothers.” 33 (AD)But he said to Him, “Lord, I am ready to go with You both to prison and to death!” 34 But He said, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow today until you have denied three times that you know Me.”

35 And He said to them, (AE)When I sent you out without money belt and bag and sandals, you did not lack anything, did you?” They said, “No, nothing.” 36 And He said to them, “But now, [g]whoever has a money belt is to take it along, likewise also a bag, and [h]whoever has no sword is to sell his [i]cloak and buy one. 37 For I tell you that this which is written must be fulfilled in Me: ‘(AF)And He was counted with wrongdoers’; for (AG)that which refers to Me has its [j]fulfillment.” 38 They said, “Lord, look, here are two (AH)swords.” And He said to them, “It is enough.”
