³³ Peter^[a] said to him, “Lord, I am ready to go with you both ^(A)to prison and ^(B)to death.”

³¹ But ^(A)he said emphatically, “If I must die with you, I will not deny you.” And they all said the same.

^33 (A)Peter answered him, “Though they all fall away because of you, I will never fall away.” ^34 (B)Jesus said to him, “Truly, I tell you, this very night, ^(C)before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.” ^35 (D)Peter said to him, “Even if I must die with you, I will not deny you!” And all the disciples said the same.

Jesus Foretells Peter's Denial

³⁶ Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, where are you going?” ^(A)Jesus answered him, “Where I am going ^(B)you cannot follow me now, ^(C)but you will follow afterward.” ^37 (D)Peter said to him, “Lord, why can I not follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.”

^29 (A)Peter said to him, “Even though they all fall away, I will not.”

²² Jesus answered, ^(A)“You do not know what you are asking. Are you able ^(B)to drink the cup that I am to drink?” They said to him, “We are able.”

¹³ Then Paul answered, ^(A)“What are you doing, weeping and breaking my heart? For ^(B)I am ready not only to be imprisoned but even to die in Jerusalem ^(C)for the name of the Lord Jesus.”

²³ except that ^(A)the Holy Spirit testifies to me in every city that ^(B)imprisonment and ^(C)afflictions await me. ²⁴ But ^(D)I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only ^(E)I may finish my course and ^(F)the ministry ^(G)that I received from the Lord Jesus, ^(H)to testify to ^(I)the gospel of ^(J)the grace of God.

³⁷ And he came and found them sleeping, and he said to Peter, “Simon, are you asleep? Could you not watch one hour? ^38 (A)Watch and ^(B)pray that you may not ^(C)enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
