Watch Yourselves

34 “But watch yourselves (A)lest (B)your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and (C)cares of this life, and (D)that day come upon you suddenly (E)like a trap. 35 For it will come upon all who dwell on the face of the whole earth. 36 But (F)stay awake at all times, (G)praying that you may (H)have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and (I)to stand before the Son of Man.”

37 And (J)every day he was teaching in the temple, but (K)at night he went out and lodged on (L)the mount called Olivet. 38 And early in the morning (M)all the people came to him in the temple to hear him.

34 “Take care that your hearts aren’t dulled by drinking parties, drunkenness, and the anxieties of day-to-day life. Don’t let that day fall upon you unexpectedly, 35 like a trap. It will come upon everyone who lives on the face of the whole earth. 36  Stay alert at all times, praying that you are strong enough to escape everything that is about to happen and to stand before the Human One.”[a]

37 Every day Jesus was teaching in the temple, but he spent each night on the Mount of Olives. 38 All the people rose early in the morning to hear him in the temple area.
