30 And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.(A) 31 So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.(B)

32 “Whoever acknowledges me before others,(C) I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. 33 But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.(D)

34 “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to turn

“‘a man against his father,
    a daughter against her mother,
a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law(E)
36     a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’[a](F)

37 “Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.(G) 38 Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me.(H) 39 Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.(I)

11 He has made everything beautiful in its time.(A) He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet[a] no one can fathom(B) what God has done from beginning to end.(C) 12 I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. 13 That each of them may eat and drink,(D) and find satisfaction(E) in all their toil—this is the gift of God.(F) 14 I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that people will fear him.(G)

15 Whatever is has already been,(H)

In the place of judgment—wickedness was there,
in the place of justice—wickedness was there.

17 I said to myself,

“God will bring into judgment(J)
both the righteous and the wicked,
for there will be a time for every activity,
a time to judge every deed.”(K)

18 I also said to myself, “As for humans, God tests them so that they may see that they are like the animals.(L) 19 Surely the fate of human beings(M) is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both: As one dies, so dies the other. All have the same breath[c]; humans have no advantage over animals. Everything is meaningless. 20 All go to the same place; all come from dust, and to dust all return.(N) 21 Who knows if the human spirit rises upward(O) and if the spirit of the animal goes down into the earth?”

22 So I saw that there is nothing better for a person than to enjoy their work,(P) because that is their lot.(Q) For who can bring them to see what will happen after them?
