³⁵ But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them;^(A) in those days they will fast.”

⁴ I have told you this, so that when their time comes you will remember^(A) that I warned you about them. I did not tell you this from the beginning because I was with you,^{(B) 5} but now I am going to him who sent me.^(C) None of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’^{(D) 6} Rather, you are filled with grief^(E) because I have said these things. ⁷ But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate^(F) will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.^(G)

²² Then he said to his disciples, “The time is coming when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man,^(A) but you will not see it.^(B)

²⁷ I have labored and toiled^(A) and have often gone without sleep; I have known hunger and thirst and have often gone without food;^(B) I have been cold and naked.

⁵ Do not deprive each other except perhaps by mutual consent and for a time,^(A) so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan^(B) will not tempt you^(C) because of your lack of self-control.
