¹⁴ Soldiers also asked him, “And we, ^(A)what shall we do?” And he said to them, ^(B)“Do not extort money from anyone by threats or by false accusation, and be content with your ^(C)wages.”

⁹ For I too am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my servant,^[a] ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” ¹⁰ When Jesus heard this, ^(A)he marveled and said to those who followed him, “Truly, I tell you, with ^(B)no one in Israel^[b] have I found such faith.

Peter and Cornelius

10 At Caesarea there was a man named Cornelius, a centurion of ^(A)what was known as the Italian Cohort, ² a devout man ^(B)who feared God with all his household, gave alms generously to the people, and prayed continually to God.

⁴ for ^(A)he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, ^(B)an avenger who carries out God's wrath on the wrongdoer.
