Jesus frestas
4 Uppfylld av den helige Ande återvände Jesus från Jordan och fördes av Anden omkring i öknen, 2 där han frestades av djävulen i fyrtio dagar. Under de dagarna åt han ingenting, och när de var förbi, blev han hungrig. 3 Då sade djävulen till honom: "Är du Guds Son, så befall att den här stenen blir bröd." 4 Jesus svarade honom: "Det står skrivet: Människan lever inte bara av bröd." [a] 5 Då förde djävulen honom högt upp och visade honom för ett ögonblick alla riken i världen 6 och sade: "Dessa rikens hela makt och härlighet vill jag ge dig, ty åt mig har den överlämnats och jag ger den åt vem jag vill. 7 Därför skall allt vara ditt, om du tillber mig." 8 Jesus svarade: "Det står skrivet: Herren, din Gud, skall du tillbe, och endast honom skall du tjäna." [b] 9 Sedan förde djävulen honom till Jerusalem och ställde honom på tempelmurens utsprång[c] och sade till honom: "Är du Guds Son, så kasta dig ner härifrån! 10 Det står skrivet: Han skall befalla sina änglar att skydda dig, [d] 11 och De skall bära dig på händerna, så att du inte stöter din fot mot någon sten." 12 Jesus svarade honom: "Det är sagt: Du skall inte fresta Herren din Gud."[e] 13 När djävulen hade frestat honom på alla sätt, lämnade han honom för en tid.
Jesus undervisar i Nasaret
14 I Andens kraft vände Jesus tillbaka till Galileen, och ryktet om honom gick ut i hela trakten däromkring. 15 Han undervisade i deras synagogor och blev prisad av alla.
16 Så kom han till Nasaret, där han hade vuxit upp. På sabbaten gick han till synagogan som han brukade. Han reste sig för att läsa ur Skriften, 17 och man räckte honom profeten Jesajas bokrulle. När han öppnade den, fann han det ställe där det står skrivet:
18 Herrens Ande är över mig, ty han har smort mig
till att predika glädjens budskap för de fattiga.
Han har sänt mig för att ropa ut frihet för de fångna
och syn för de blinda, för att ge de betryckta frihet[f]
19 och predika ett nådens år från Herren.
20 Sedan rullade han ihop bokrullen, räckte den till tjänaren och satte sig. Alla i synagogan hade sina ögon fästa på honom. 21 Då började han tala till dem: "I dag har detta skriftställe gått i uppfyllelse inför er som lyssnar." 22 Men alla vittnade mot honom[g] och häpnade över de nådens ord som utgick från hans mun. Och de frågade: "Är inte han Josefs son?" 23 Då sade han till dem: "Utan tvekan kommer ni att vända detta ordspråk mot mig: Läkare, bota dig själv, och säga: Vi har hört allt som hände i Kapernaum. Gör det också här i din hemstad." 24 Och han fortsatte: "Amen[h] säger jag er: Ingen profet blir erkänd i sin hemstad. 25 Jag säger er sanningen: Det fanns många änkor i Israel på Elias tid, då himlen var tillsluten i tre år och sex månader och det kom en stor hungersnöd över hela landet. 26 Ändå blev inte Elia sänd till någon av dem utan bara till en änka i Sarepta i Sidons land. 27 Och fastän det fanns många spetälska i Israel på profeten Elisas tid, blev ingen av dem renad[i] utan endast Naaman från Syrien."
28 Alla i synagogan blev ursinniga när de hörde detta. 29 De reste sig upp och drev honom ut ur staden och förde honom ända fram till branten av det berg som deras stad var byggd på och ville störta ner honom. 30 Men han gick rakt igenom folkhopen och vandrade vidare.
Jesus i Kapernaum
31 Så begav han sig ner till Kapernaum, en stad i Galileen, och undervisade folket på sabbaten. 32 De kände sig träffade av hans undervisning, eftersom han talade med makt och myndighet. 33 I synagogan fanns en man som hade en oren ande som skrek: 34 "Vad har vi med dig att göra, Jesus från Nasaret? Har du kommit för att fördärva oss? Jag vet vem du är, du Guds Helige." 35 Då talade Jesus strängt till anden: "Tig och far ut ur honom!" Anden kastade omkull mannen mitt ibland dem och for ut ur honom utan att skada honom. 36 Alla blev mycket häpna och sade till varandra: "Vad är det med hans ord? Med makt och myndighet befaller han de orena andarna, och de far ut." 37 Och ryktet om honom spreds överallt i trakten.
38 Jesus lämnade synagogan och gick hem till Simon. Där låg Simons svärmor i hög feber, och de bad Jesus hjälpa henne. 39 Han gick då fram och lutade sig över henne och talade strängt till febern, och den lämnade henne. Genast steg hon upp och betjänade dem. 40 Vid solnedgången kom alla till honom med dem som led av olika sjukdomar, och han lade händerna på var och en av dem och botade dem. 41 Onda andar for även ut ur många, och de ropade: "Du är Guds Son." Men han talade strängt till dem och förbjöd dem att tala, eftersom de visste att han var Messias.
42 När det blev dag, gick han bort till en enslig plats. Folket sökte efter honom, och när de kom till honom, ville de hålla honom kvar och hindra honom från att lämna dem. 43 Men han sade till dem: "Också för de andra städerna måste jag predika evangeliet om Guds rike. Det är därför jag har blivit sänd." 44 Och han predikade i synagogorna i Judeen.

4 Sedan vände Jesus tillbaka från Jordan, full av helig ande, och fördes genom Anden omkring i öknen
2 och frestades av djävulen under fyrtio dagar. Och under de dagarna åt han intet; men när de hade gått till ända, blev han hungrig.
3 Då sade djävulen till honom: »Är du Guds Son, så bjud denna sten att bliva bröd.»
4 Jesus svarade honom: »Det är skrivet: 'Människan skall leva icke allenast av bröd.'»
5 Och djävulen förde honom upp på en höjd och visade honom i ett ögonblick alla riken i världen
6 och sade till honom: »Åt dig vill jag giva makten över allt detta med dess härlighet; ty åt mig har den blivit överlämnad, och åt vem jag vill kan jag giva den.
7 Om du alltså tillbeder inför mig, så skall den hel och hållen höra dig till.»
8 Jesus svarade och sade till honom: »Det är skrivet: 'Herren, din Gud, skall du tillbedja, och honom allena skall du tjäna.'»
9 Och han förde honom till Jerusalem och ställde honom uppe på helgedomens mur och sade till honom: »Är du Guds Son, så kasta dig ned härifrån;
10 det är ju skrivet: 'Han skall giva sina änglar befallning om dig, att de skola väl bevara dig';
11 så ock: 'De skola bära dig på händerna, så att du icke stöter din fot mot någon sten.'»
12 Då svarade Jesus och sade till honom: »Det är sagt: 'Du skall icke fresta Herren, din Gud.'»
13 När djävulen så hade slutat med alla sina frestelser, vek han ifrån honom, intill läglig tid.
14 Och Jesus vände i Andens kraft tillbaka till Galileen; och ryktet om honom gick ut i hela den kringliggande trakten.
15 Och han undervisade i deras synagogor och blev prisad av alla.
16 Så kom han till Nasaret, där han var uppfödd. Och på sabbatsdagen gick han, såsom hans sed var, in i synagogan: och där stod han upp till att föreläsa.
17 Då räckte man åt honom profeten Esaias' bok; och när han öppnade boken, fick han se det ställe där det stod skrivet:
18 »Herrens Ande är över mig, ty han har smort mig. Han har satt mig till att förkunna glädjens budskap för de fattiga, till att predika frihet för de fångna och syn för de blinda, ja, till att giva de förtryckta frihet
19 och till att predika ett nådens år från Herren.»
20 Sedan lade han ihop boken och gav den tillbaka åt tjänaren och satte sig ned. Och alla som voro i synagogan hade sina ögon fästa på honom.
21 Då begynte han tala och sade till dem: »I dag är detta skriftens ord fullbordat inför edra öron.»
22 Och de gåvo honom alla sitt vittnesbörd och förundrade sig över de nådens ord som utgingo från hans mun, och sade: »Är då denne icke Josefs son?»
23 Då sade han till dem: »Helt visst skolen I nu vända mot mig det ordet: 'Läkare, bota dig själv' och säga: 'Sådana stora ting som vi hava hört vara gjorda i Kapernaum, sådana må du göra också här i din fädernestad.'»
24 Och han tillade: »Sannerligen säger jag eder: Ingen profet bliver i sitt fädernesland väl mottagen.
25 Men jag säger eder, såsom sant är: I Israel funnos många änkor på Elias' tid då himmelen var tillsluten i tre år och sex månader, och stor hungersnöd kom över hela landet --
26 och likväl blev Elias icke sänd till någon av dessa, utan allenast till en änka i Sarepta i Sidons land.
27 Och många spetälska funnos i Israel på profeten Elisas tid; och likväl blev ingen av dessa gjord ren, utan allenast Naiman från Syrien.»
28 När de som voro i synagogan hörde detta, uppfylldes de alla av vrede
29 och stodo upp och drevo honom ut ur staden och förde honom ända fram till branten av det berg som deras stad var byggd på, och ville störta honom därutför.
30 Men han gick sin väg mitt igenom hopen och vandrade vidare.
31 Och han kom ned till Kapernaum, en stad i Galileen, och undervisade folket på sabbaten.
32 Och de häpnade över hans undervisning, ty han talade med makt och myndighet.
33 Och i synagogan var en man som var besatt av en oren ond ande. Denne ropade med hög röst:
34 »Bort härifrån! Vad har du med oss att göra, Jesus från Nasaret? Har du kommit för att förgöra oss? Jag vet vem du är, du Guds Helige.»
35 Men Jesus tilltalade honom strängt och sade: »Tig och far ut ur honom.» Då kastade den onde anden omkull mannen mitt ibland dem och for ut ur honom, utan att hava gjort honom någon skada.
36 Och häpnad kom över dem alla, och de talade med varandra och sade: »Vad är det med dennes ord? Med myndighet och makt befaller han ju de orena andarna, och de fara ut.»
37 Och ryktet om honom spriddes åt alla håll i den kringliggande trakten.
38 Men han stod upp och gick ut ur synagogan och kom in i Simons hus. Och Simons svärmoder var ansatt av en svår feber, och de bådo honom för henne.
39 Då trädde han fram och lutade sig över henne och näpste febern, och den lämnade henne; och strax stod hon upp och betjänade dem.
40 Men när solen gick ned, förde alla till honom sina sjuka, sådana som ledo av olika slags sjukdomar. Och han lade händerna på var och en av dem och botade dem.
41 Onda andar blevo ock utdrivna ur många, och de ropade därvid och sade: »Du är Guds Son.» Men han tilltalade dem strängt och tillsade dem att icke säga något, eftersom de visste att han var Messias.
42 Och när det åter hade blivit dag, gick han åstad bort till en öde trakt. Men folket sökte efter honom; och när de kommo fram till honom, ville de hålla honom kvar och hindra honom att gå sin väg.
43 Men han sade till dem: »Också för de andra städerna måste jag förkunna evangelium om Guds rike, ty därtill har jag blivit utsänd.»
44 Och han predikade i synagogorna i Judeen.

Jesus Is Tested in the Wilderness(A)
4 Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit,(B) left the Jordan(C) and was led by the Spirit(D) into the wilderness, 2 where for forty days(E) he was tempted[a] by the devil.(F) He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry.
3 The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God,(G) tell this stone to become bread.”
4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone.’[b]”(H)
5 The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world.(I) 6 And he said to him, “I will give you all their authority and splendor; it has been given to me,(J) and I can give it to anyone I want to. 7 If you worship me, it will all be yours.”
8 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.’[c]”(K)
9 The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down from here. 10 For it is written:
“‘He will command his angels concerning you
to guard you carefully;
11 they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’[d]”(L)
12 Jesus answered, “It is said: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’[e]”(M)
13 When the devil had finished all this tempting,(N) he left him(O) until an opportune time.
Jesus Rejected at Nazareth
14 Jesus returned to Galilee(P) in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside.(Q) 15 He was teaching in their synagogues,(R) and everyone praised him.
16 He went to Nazareth,(S) where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue,(T) as was his custom. He stood up to read,(U) 17 and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:
18 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me,(V)
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news(W) to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free,
19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”[f](X)
20 Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down.(Y) The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him. 21 He began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled(Z) in your hearing.”
22 All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips. “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?” they asked.(AA)
23 Jesus said to them, “Surely you will quote this proverb to me: ‘Physician, heal yourself!’ And you will tell me, ‘Do here in your hometown(AB) what we have heard that you did in Capernaum.’”(AC)
24 “Truly I tell you,” he continued, “no prophet is accepted in his hometown.(AD) 25 I assure you that there were many widows in Israel in Elijah’s time, when the sky was shut for three and a half years and there was a severe famine throughout the land.(AE) 26 Yet Elijah was not sent to any of them, but to a widow in Zarephath in the region of Sidon.(AF) 27 And there were many in Israel with leprosy[g] in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed—only Naaman the Syrian.”(AG)
28 All the people in the synagogue were furious when they heard this. 29 They got up, drove him out of the town,(AH) and took him to the brow of the hill on which the town was built, in order to throw him off the cliff. 30 But he walked right through the crowd and went on his way.(AI)
Jesus Drives Out an Impure Spirit(AJ)
31 Then he went down to Capernaum,(AK) a town in Galilee, and on the Sabbath he taught the people. 32 They were amazed at his teaching,(AL) because his words had authority.(AM)
33 In the synagogue there was a man possessed by a demon, an impure spirit. He cried out at the top of his voice, 34 “Go away! What do you want with us,(AN) Jesus of Nazareth?(AO) Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are(AP)—the Holy One of God!”(AQ)
35 “Be quiet!” Jesus said sternly.(AR) “Come out of him!” Then the demon threw the man down before them all and came out without injuring him.
36 All the people were amazed(AS) and said to each other, “What words these are! With authority(AT) and power he gives orders to impure spirits and they come out!” 37 And the news about him spread throughout the surrounding area.(AU)
Jesus Heals Many(AV)(AW)
38 Jesus left the synagogue and went to the home of Simon. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever, and they asked Jesus to help her. 39 So he bent over her and rebuked(AX) the fever, and it left her. She got up at once and began to wait on them.
40 At sunset, the people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and laying his hands on each one,(AY) he healed them.(AZ) 41 Moreover, demons came out of many people, shouting, “You are the Son of God!”(BA) But he rebuked(BB) them and would not allow them to speak,(BC) because they knew he was the Messiah.
42 At daybreak, Jesus went out to a solitary place. The people were looking for him and when they came to where he was, they tried to keep him from leaving them. 43 But he said, “I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God(BD) to the other towns also, because that is why I was sent.” 44 And he kept on preaching in the synagogues of Judea.(BE)

12 And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
13 And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.
14 And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.
15 And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all.
16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.
17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

20 And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.
21 And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.
22 And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph's son?
23 And he said unto them, Ye will surely say unto me this proverb, Physician, heal thyself: whatsoever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in thy country.
24 And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country.
25 But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land;

30 But he passing through the midst of them went his way,

32 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for his word was with power.
33 And in the synagogue there was a man, which had a spirit of an unclean devil, and cried out with a loud voice,
34 Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art; the Holy One of God.
35 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the devil had thrown him in the midst, he came out of him, and hurt him not.
36 And they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a word is this! for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out.
37 And the fame of him went out into every place of the country round about.
38 And he arose out of the synagogue, and entered into Simon's house. And Simon's wife's mother was taken with a great fever; and they besought him for her.
39 And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and ministered unto them.
40 Now when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them.
41 And devils also came out of many, crying out, and saying, Thou art Christ the Son of God. And he rebuking them suffered them not to speak: for they knew that he was Christ.
42 And when it was day, he departed and went into a desert place: and the people sought him, and came unto him, and stayed him, that he should not depart from them.
43 And he said unto them, I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also: for therefore am I sent.
44 And he preached in the synagogues of Galilee.
