Johannes Døbers budskab(A)
3 1-2 I kejser Tiberius’ 15. regeringsår fik Johannes, Zakarias’ søn, som holdt til i ødemarken, et budskab fra Gud. Landet var besat af romerne, og Pontius Pilatus var guvernør i Judæa. Herodes Antipas regerede i Galilæa, hans bror Filip i Ituræa og Trakonitis, mens Lysanias regerede i Abilene. Annas og Kajfas var jødernes ypperstepræster.
3 Johannes forlod så ørkenområdet og vandrede omkring i nærheden af Jordanfloden. Der forkyndte han, at folk skulle vende om fra deres ondskab og lade sig døbe for at få tilgivelse for deres synder. 4 Dermed gik følgende ord af profeten Esajas i opfyldelse:
„Der lyder en røst i ødemarken:
‚Ban vej for Herren!
Gør vejen klar til hans komme!
5 Hver dal skal fyldes op,
hvert bjerg og hver høj skal jævnes ud.
De krogede veje skal rettes ud,
og de ujævne stier glattes.
6 Og alle skal se Guds frelse.’ ”[a]
7 Johannes råbte til de mange mennesker, som strømmede til for at lade sig døbe: „Slangeyngel! Hvem har bildt jer ind, at I kan slippe for Guds straf? 8 Bevis med jeres liv, at I er villige til at vende jer bort fra jeres synder! Det hjælper jer ikke at sige: ‚Vi er da børn af Abraham’.[b] Lad mig fortælle jer noget: Gud kan forvandle stenene der til børn af Abraham! 9 Øksen ligger allerede klar ved foden af træerne, og ethvert træ, som ikke bærer god frugt, skal hugges om og kastes i ilden.”
10 „Jamen, hvad skal vi da gøre?” spurgte de.
11 Johannes svarede: „Den, som har to kjortler, skal give den ene til den, der ingen har. Og den, der har mad at spise, skal dele med den, der intet har.”
12 Der kom også nogle skatteopkrævere[c] for at blive døbt. „Hvad med os?” spurgte de. „Hvad skal vi gøre?”
13 „I skal være ærlige!” svarede Johannes. „I må ikke opkræve mere i skat end det beløb, I har fået besked på.”
14 „Og os,” spurgte en flok betjente.[d] „Hvad med os?”
„Misbrug ikke jeres magt til at presse penge af folk,” svarede han. „Lad være med at arrestere nogen på falsk grundlag i håb om at modtage bestikkelse, men vær tilfredse med den løn, I får!”
15 Da alle folk var i forventning om, at Messias snart skulle komme, var de spændt på, om det kunne være Johannes, der var den lovede frelser. 16 Men Johannes sagde: „Jeg døber jer med vand, men snart kommer der en, som har større magt, end jeg har. Jeg er ikke engang værdig til at løse remmen på hans sandaler. Han vil døbe jer med Helligåndens kraft og med ild. 17 Han har kasteskovlen i hånden, klar til at rense kornet for avner. Kernerne samler han i sin lade, men avnerne vil blive brændt i en uudslukkelig ild.”
18 Sådan forkyndte Johannes det gode budskab og gav sine tilhørere mange formaninger om at leve efter Guds vilje. 19 Men da han irettesatte Herodes, fordi han levede sammen med sin brors kone, Herodias, og for alt det onde, han derudover foretog sig, 20 føjede Herodes endnu en forbrydelse til sit synderegister. Han satte Johannes i fængsel.
Jesus bliver døbt med vand og Helligånd(B)
21 Mens Johannes endnu var på fri fod og døbte folk, kom Jesus også og blev døbt. Da han derefter stod og bad, åbnede himlen sig, 22 og Helligånden dalede ned over ham i skikkelse af en due. Samtidig lød der en stemme fra himlen: „Du er min elskede Søn, og dig er jeg fuldt ud tilfreds med!”[e]

Esli var søn af Naggaj, 26 som var søn af Mahat. Mahat var søn af Mattatias, som var søn af Shimi. Shimi var søn af Josek, som var søn af Joda. 27 Joda var søn af Johanan, som var søn af Resa. Resa var søn af Zerubbabel, som var søn af Shealtiel. Shealtiel var søn af Neri, 28 som var søn af Melki. Melki var søn af Addi, som var søn af Kosam. Tera var søn af Nakor, 35 som var søn af Zerug. Zerug var søn af Reu, som var søn af Peleg. Peleg var søn af Eber, som var søn af Shela. 36 Shela var søn af Kenan, som var søn af Arpakshad. Arpakshad var søn af Sem, som var søn af Noa. Noa var søn af Lemek, 37 som var søn af Metusalem. Metusalem var søn af Enok, som var søn af Jered. Jered var søn af Mahalalel, som var søn af Kenan. 38 Kenan var søn af Enosh, som var søn af Set. Set var søn af Adam, som var søn af Gud.

- 3,14 Egentlig „soldater”, men datidens soldater fungerede som nutidens betjente ved at arrestere mistænkte forbrydere.
- 3,22 Det græske ord brugt her betyder egentlig: „betragte som værende godt”. Det er noget, som man kan sætte sit blå stempel på, acceptere og være tilfreds med. Det bruges ofte i forbindelse med, at Guds vilje bliver udført.
- 3,23 På græsk: „(søn) af Eli”. Som i andre stamtavler har begrebet „søn” en videre betydning end på dansk. Det kan betyde barnebarn eller efterkommer. Teksten gør det ikke klart, om Josef er søn af Eli, eller måske efterkommer af Eli, men det er sandsynligvis Maria, som var datter af Eli, således at Jesus var Elis barnebarn. I alle tilfælde er stamtavlen her forskellig fra Josefs stamtavle i Matt. 1, idet den går tilbage til en anden af Davids sønner.

3 恺撒提庇留在位第十五年，本丢·彼拉多做犹太巡抚，希律做加利利分封的王，他的兄弟腓力做以土利亚和特拉可尼地方分封的王，吕撒聂做亚比利尼分封的王， 2 亚那和该亚法做大祭司。那时，撒迦利亚的儿子约翰在旷野里，神的话临到他。 3 他就来到约旦河一带地方，宣讲悔改的洗礼，使罪得赦。 4 正如先知以赛亚书上所记的话说：“在旷野有人声喊着说：‘预备主的道，修直他的路！ 5 一切山洼都要填满，大小山冈都要削平，弯弯曲曲的地方要改为正直，高高低低的道路要改为平坦。 6 凡有血气的，都要见神的救恩。’”

15 百姓指望基督来的时候，人都心里猜疑或者约翰是基督。 16 约翰说：“我是用水给你们施洗。但有一位能力比我更大的要来，我就是给他解鞋带也不配，他要用圣灵与火给你们施洗。 17 他手里拿着簸箕，要扬净他的场，把麦子收在仓里，把糠用不灭的火烧尽了。”
约翰责备希律被囚
18 约翰又用许多别的话劝百姓，向他们传福音。 19 只是分封的王希律因他兄弟之妻希罗底的缘故，并因他所行的一切恶事，受了约翰的责备， 20 又另外添了一件，就是把约翰收在监里。
耶稣受洗
21 众百姓都受了洗，耶稣也受了洗，正祷告的时候天就开了， 22 圣灵降临在他身上，形状仿佛鸽子；又有声音从天上来说：“你是我的爱子，我喜悦你。”

3 Era o décimo quinto ano do reinado do imperador Tibério César. Pôncio Pilatos era governador da Judeia; Herodes Antipas governava[a] a Galileia; seu irmão Filipe governava[b] a Itureia e Traconites; e Lisânias governava Abilene. 2 Anás e Caifás eram os sumos sacerdotes. Nesse ano, veio uma mensagem de Deus a João, filho de Zacarias, que vivia no deserto. 3 João percorreu os arredores do rio Jordão, pregando o batismo como sinal de arrependimento para o perdão dos pecados. 4 O profeta Isaías se referia a João quando escreveu em seu livro:
“Ele é uma voz que clama no deserto:
‘Preparem o caminho para a vinda do Senhor![c]
Abram uma estrada para ele!
5 Os vales serão aterrados,
e os montes e as colinas, nivelados.
As curvas serão endireitadas,
e os lugares acidentados, aplanados.
6 Então todos verão
a salvação enviada por Deus’”.[d]
7 João dizia às multidões que vinham até ele para ser batizadas: “Raça de víboras! Quem os convenceu a fugir da ira que está por vir? 8 Provem por suas ações que vocês se arrependeram. Não digam uns aos outros: ‘Estamos a salvo, pois somos filhos de Abraão’. Isso não significa nada, pois eu lhes digo que até destas pedras Deus pode fazer surgir filhos de Abraão. 9 Agora mesmo o machado do julgamento está pronto para cortar as raízes das árvores. Toda árvore que não produz bons frutos será cortada e lançada ao fogo”.
10 As multidões perguntavam: “O que devemos fazer?”.
11 João respondeu: “Se tiverem duas vestimentas, deem uma a quem não tem. Se tiverem comida, dividam com quem passa fome”.
12 Cobradores de impostos também vinham para ser batizados e perguntavam: “Mestre, o que devemos fazer?”.
13 Ele respondeu: “Não cobrem impostos além daquilo que é exigido”.
14 “E nós?”, perguntaram alguns soldados. “O que devemos fazer?”
João respondeu: “Não pratiquem extorsão nem façam acusações falsas. Contentem-se com seu salário”.
15 Todos esperavam que o Cristo viesse em breve, e estavam ansiosos para saber se João era ele. 16 João respondeu às perguntas deles, dizendo: “Eu os batizo com[e] água, mas em breve virá alguém mais poderoso que eu, alguém tão superior que não sou digno de desatar as correias de suas sandálias. Ele os batizará com o Espírito Santo e com fogo.[f] 17 Ele já tem na mão a pá, e com ela separará a palha do trigo, a fim de limpar a área onde os cereais são debulhados. Juntará o trigo no celeiro, mas queimará a palha num fogo que nunca se apaga”. 18 João usou muitas advertências semelhantes ao anunciar as boas-novas ao povo.
19 João também criticou publicamente Herodes Antipas, o governador da Galileia,[g] por ter se casado com Herodias, esposa de seu irmão, e por muitas outras maldades que havia cometido. 20 A essas maldades Herodes acrescentou outra, mandando prender João.
O batismo de Jesus
21 Certo dia, quando as multidões estavam sendo batizadas, Jesus também foi batizado. Enquanto ele orava, o céu se abriu, 22 e o Espírito Santo desceu sobre ele em forma corpórea como uma pomba. E uma voz do céu disse: “Você é meu filho amado, que me dá grande alegria”.

3 In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar—when Pontius Pilate(C) was governor of Judea, Herod(D) tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip tetrarch of Iturea and Traconitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene— 2 during the high-priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas,(E) the word of God came to John(F) son of Zechariah(G) in the wilderness. 3 He went into all the country around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.(H) 4 As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet:
“A voice of one calling in the wilderness,
‘Prepare the way for the Lord,
make straight paths for him.
5 Every valley shall be filled in,
every mountain and hill made low.
The crooked roads shall become straight,
the rough ways smooth.
6 And all people will see God’s salvation.’”[a](I)
7 John said to the crowds coming out to be baptized by him, “You brood of vipers!(J) Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?(K) 8 Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’(L) For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham. 9 The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.”(M)
10 “What should we do then?”(N) the crowd asked.
11 John answered, “Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same.”(O)
12 Even tax collectors came to be baptized.(P) “Teacher,” they asked, “what should we do?”
13 “Don’t collect any more than you are required to,”(Q) he told them.
14 Then some soldiers asked him, “And what should we do?”
He replied, “Don’t extort money and don’t accuse people falsely(R)—be content with your pay.”
15 The people were waiting expectantly and were all wondering in their hearts if John(S) might possibly be the Messiah.(T) 16 John answered them all, “I baptize you with[b] water.(U) But one who is more powerful than I will come, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with[c] the Holy Spirit and fire.(V) 17 His winnowing fork(W) is in his hand to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his barn, but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”(X) 18 And with many other words John exhorted the people and proclaimed the good news to them.
19 But when John rebuked Herod(Y) the tetrarch because of his marriage to Herodias, his brother’s wife, and all the other evil things he had done, 20 Herod added this to them all: He locked John up in prison.(Z)
