El complot para matar a Jesús

(Mt. 26.1-5,14-16; Mr. 14.1-2,10-11; Jn. 11.45-53)

22 Estaba cerca la fiesta de los panes sin levadura, que se llama la pascua.(A) 2 Y los principales sacerdotes y los escribas buscaban cómo matarle; porque temían al pueblo.

3 Y entró Satanás en Judas, por sobrenombre Iscariote, el cual era uno del número de los doce; 4 y este fue y habló con los principales sacerdotes, y con los jefes de la guardia, de cómo se lo entregaría. 5 Ellos se alegraron, y convinieron en darle dinero. 6 Y él se comprometió, y buscaba una oportunidad para entregárselo a espaldas del pueblo.

Institución de la Cena del Señor

7 Llegó el día de los panes sin levadura, en el cual era necesario sacrificar el cordero de la pascua. 8 Y Jesús envió a Pedro y a Juan, diciendo: Id, preparadnos la pascua para que la comamos. 9 Ellos le dijeron: ¿Dónde quieres que la preparemos? 10 Él les dijo: He aquí, al entrar en la ciudad os saldrá al encuentro un hombre que lleva un cántaro de agua; seguidle hasta la casa donde entrare, 11 y decid al padre de familia de esa casa: El Maestro te dice: ¿Dónde está el aposento donde he de comer la pascua con mis discípulos? 12 Entonces él os mostrará un gran aposento alto ya dispuesto; preparad allí. 13 Fueron, pues, y hallaron como les había dicho; y prepararon la pascua.

14 Cuando era la hora, se sentó a la mesa, y con él los apóstoles. 15 Y les dijo: ¡Cuánto he deseado comer con vosotros esta pascua antes que padezca! 16 Porque os digo que no la comeré más, hasta que se cumpla en el reino de Dios. 17 Y habiendo tomado la copa, dio gracias, y dijo: Tomad esto, y repartidlo entre vosotros; 18 porque os digo que no beberé más del fruto de la vid, hasta que el reino de Dios venga. 19 Y tomó el pan y dio gracias, y lo partió y les dio, diciendo: Esto es mi cuerpo, que por vosotros es dado; haced esto en memoria de mí. 20 De igual manera, después que hubo cenado, tomó la copa, diciendo: Esta copa es el nuevo pacto(B) en mi sangre,(C) que por vosotros se derrama. 21 Mas he aquí, la mano del que me entrega está conmigo en la mesa. 22 A la verdad el Hijo del Hombre va, según lo que está determinado;(D) pero ¡ay de aquel hombre por quien es entregado! 23 Entonces ellos comenzaron a discutir entre sí, quién de ellos sería el que había de hacer esto.

La grandeza en el servicio

24 Hubo también entre ellos una disputa sobre quién de ellos sería el mayor.(E) 25 Pero él les dijo: Los reyes de las naciones se enseñorean de ellas, y los que sobre ellas tienen autoridad son llamados bienhechores; 26 mas no así vosotros,(F) sino sea el mayor entre vosotros como el más joven, y el que dirige, como el que sirve.(G) 27 Porque, ¿cuál es mayor, el que se sienta a la mesa, o el que sirve? ¿No es el que se sienta a la mesa? Mas yo estoy entre vosotros como el que sirve.(H)

28 Pero vosotros sois los que habéis permanecido conmigo en mis pruebas. 29 Yo, pues, os asigno un reino, como mi Padre me lo asignó a mí, 30 para que comáis y bebáis a mi mesa en mi reino, y os sentéis en tronos juzgando a las doce tribus de Israel.(I)

Jesús anuncia la negación de Pedro

31 Dijo también el Señor: Simón, Simón, he aquí Satanás os ha pedido para zarandearos como a trigo; 32 pero yo he rogado por ti, que tu fe no falte; y tú, una vez vuelto, confirma a tus hermanos. 33 Él le dijo: Señor, dispuesto estoy a ir contigo no solo a la cárcel, sino también a la muerte. 34 Y él le dijo: Pedro, te digo que el gallo no cantará hoy antes que tú niegues tres veces que me conoces.

Bolsa, alforja y espada

35 Y a ellos dijo: Cuando os envié sin bolsa, sin alforja, y sin calzado,(J) ¿os faltó algo? Ellos dijeron: Nada. 36 Y les dijo: Pues ahora, el que tiene bolsa, tómela, y también la alforja; y el que no tiene espada, venda su capa y compre una. 37 Porque os digo que es necesario que se cumpla todavía en mí aquello que está escrito: Y fue contado con los inicuos;(K) porque lo que está escrito de mí, tiene cumplimiento. 38 Entonces ellos dijeron: Señor, aquí hay dos espadas. Y él les dijo: Basta.

Jesús ora en Getsemaní

(Mt. 26.36-46; Mr. 14.32-42)

39 Y saliendo, se fue, como solía, al monte de los Olivos; y sus discípulos también le siguieron. 40 Cuando llegó a aquel lugar, les dijo: Orad que no entréis en tentación. 41 Y él se apartó de ellos a distancia como de un tiro de piedra; y puesto de rodillas oró, 42 diciendo: Padre, si quieres, pasa de mí esta copa; pero no se haga mi voluntad, sino la tuya. 43 Y se le apareció un ángel del cielo para fortalecerle. 44 Y estando en agonía, oraba más intensamente; y era su sudor como grandes gotas de sangre que caían hasta la tierra. 45 Cuando se levantó de la oración, y vino a sus discípulos, los halló durmiendo a causa de la tristeza; 46 y les dijo: ¿Por qué dormís? Levantaos, y orad para que no entréis en tentación.

Arresto de Jesús

(Mt. 26.47-56; Mr. 14.43-50; Jn. 18.2-11)

47 Mientras él aún hablaba, se presentó una turba; y el que se llamaba Judas, uno de los doce, iba al frente de ellos; y se acercó hasta Jesús para besarle. 48 Entonces Jesús le dijo: Judas, ¿con un beso entregas al Hijo del Hombre? 49 Viendo los que estaban con él lo que había de acontecer, le dijeron: Señor, ¿heriremos a espada? 50 Y uno de ellos hirió a un siervo del sumo sacerdote, y le cortó la oreja derecha. 51 Entonces respondiendo Jesús, dijo: Basta ya; dejad. Y tocando su oreja, le sanó. 52 Y Jesús dijo a los principales sacerdotes, a los jefes de la guardia del templo y a los ancianos, que habían venido contra él: ¿Como contra un ladrón habéis salido con espadas y palos? 53 Habiendo estado con vosotros cada día en el templo,(L) no extendisteis las manos contra mí; mas esta es vuestra hora, y la potestad de las tinieblas.

Pedro niega a Jesús

54 Y prendiéndole, le llevaron, y le condujeron a casa del sumo sacerdote. Y Pedro le seguía de lejos. 55 Y habiendo ellos encendido fuego en medio del patio, se sentaron alrededor; y Pedro se sentó también entre ellos. 56 Pero una criada, al verle sentado al fuego, se fijó en él, y dijo: También este estaba con él. 57 Pero él lo negó, diciendo: Mujer, no lo conozco. 58 Un poco después, viéndole otro, dijo: Tú también eres de ellos. Y Pedro dijo: Hombre, no lo soy. 59 Como una hora después, otro afirmaba, diciendo: Verdaderamente también este estaba con él, porque es galileo. 60 Y Pedro dijo: Hombre, no sé lo que dices. Y en seguida, mientras él todavía hablaba, el gallo cantó. 61 Entonces, vuelto el Señor, miró a Pedro; y Pedro se acordó de la palabra del Señor, que le había dicho: Antes que el gallo cante, me negarás tres veces. 62 Y Pedro, saliendo fuera, lloró amargamente.

Jesús escarnecido y azotado

63 Y los hombres que custodiaban a Jesús se burlaban de él y le golpeaban; 64 y vendándole los ojos, le golpeaban el rostro, y le preguntaban, diciendo: Profetiza, ¿quién es el que te golpeó? 65 Y decían otras muchas cosas injuriándole.

Jesús ante el concilio

(Mt. 26.59-66; Mr. 14.55-64; Jn. 18.19-24)

66 Cuando era de día, se juntaron los ancianos del pueblo, los principales sacerdotes y los escribas, y le trajeron al concilio, diciendo: 67 ¿Eres tú el Cristo? Dínoslo. Y les dijo: Si os lo dijere, no creeréis; 68 y también si os preguntare, no me responderéis, ni me soltaréis. 69 Pero desde ahora el Hijo del Hombre se sentará a la diestra del poder de Dios. 70 Dijeron todos: ¿Luego eres tú el Hijo de Dios? Y él les dijo: Vosotros decís que lo soy. 71 Entonces ellos dijeron: ¿Qué más testimonio necesitamos? porque nosotros mismos lo hemos oído de su boca.

22 Приближался праздник Пресных хлебов, называемый праздником Освобождения.[a] 2 Главные священнослужители и учители Таврота искали способа разделаться с Исо так, чтобы не вызвать возмущения народа.

Иуда Искариот решает предать Исо Масеха(B)

3 Тогда сатана вошёл в Иуду, которого называли Искариотом, одного из двенадцати учеников. 4 Иуда пошёл и сговорился с главными священнослужителями и с начальниками храмовой стражи, как предать им Исо. 5 Те обрадовались и обещали заплатить ему. 6 Иуда согласился и стал искать удобного случая, когда с Исо не будет народа, чтобы предать Его.

Приготовление учеников к празднику Освобождения(C)

7 Наступил первый день праздника Пресных хлебов, когда иудеям следовало заколоть ягнёнка в память об их освобождении, 8 и Исо послал Петруса и Иохана с поручением:

– Идите и приготовьте для нас праздничный ужин.

9 – Где Ты хочешь, чтобы мы его приготовили? – спросили они.

10 Он ответил:

– Когда вы войдёте в город, то встретите человека, несущего кувшин с водой. Идите за ним в дом, куда он войдёт, 11 и скажите хозяину дома: «Учитель спрашивает тебя: Где комната для гостей, в которой Я буду есть праздничный ужин с Моими учениками?» 12 Он вам покажет большую комнату наверху, в которой уже всё подготовлено. Там и приготовьте ужин.

13 Они пошли, и всё произошло так, как им сказал Исо, и они приготовили праздничный ужин.

Последний ужин с учениками(D)

14 Когда подошло время, Исо со Своими посланниками возлёг у стола. 15 Исо сказал им:

– Я очень хотел отметить этот праздник вместе с вами перед Моими страданиями. 16 Говорю вам, что Я уже не буду его отмечать до тех пор, пока в Царстве Всевышнего его смысл не будет открыт в полной мере.

17 Взяв чашу и поблагодарив за неё Всевышнего, Он сказал:

– Возьмите её и разделите между собой. 18 Говорю вам, что Я уже не буду пить от плода виноградного до тех пор, пока не придёт Царство Всевышнего.

19 Затем, взяв хлеб и поблагодарив за него Всевышнего, Он разломил его и дал ученикам со словами:

– Это Моё тело, отдаваемое за вас. Делайте это в воспоминание обо Мне.

20 Также взял и чашу после ужина и сказал:

– Эта чаша – новое священное соглашение, скреплённое Моей кровью, которая за вас проливается.[b] 21 Но рука того, кто предаёт Меня, на одном столе с Моей. 22 Да, Ниспосланный как Человек уходит так, как было предназначено, но горе тому человеку, который предаёт Его.

23 Тогда ученики начали спрашивать друг друга, кто из них мог бы совершить такое.

Величайшие – те, кто служит(E)

24 Потом они начали спорить, кто из них должен считаться самым великим. 25 Исо тогда сказал им:

– Цари этого мира господствуют над своими людьми, правители народа именуют себя благодетелями, 26 но вы не будьте, как они. Напротив, пусть самый великий среди вас будет как самый меньший, и начальник – как слуга. 27 Ведь кто важнее: тот, кто возлежит за столом, или тот, кто прислуживает? Разве не тот, кто возлежит? Я же среди вас как слуга. 28 Вы были со Мной во всех Моих испытаниях, 29 и как Мой Отец дал Мне царскую власть, так Я теперь даю её вам, 30 чтобы и вы могли есть и пить за Моим столом в Моём Царстве, и вы сядете на престолах править[c] двенадцатью родами Исроила.

Предсказание об отречении Петруса(F)

31 – Шимон, Шимон, сатана просил, чтобы все вы были испытаны, подобно тому, как просеивают пшеницу, очищая её от шелухи, 32 но Я молился о тебе, чтобы ты не потерял веру. И ты сам, когда вновь обратишься ко Мне, укрепи своих братьев.

33 Петрус ответил:

– Повелитель, я готов идти с Тобой и в темницу, и на смерть!

34 Но Исо сказал:

– Говорю тебе, Петрус, не успеет и петух пропеть сегодня, как ты трижды отречёшься от того, что знаешь Меня.

35 Потом Исо спросил их:

– Когда Я посылал вас без кошелька, без сумки, без сандалий, нуждались ли вы в чём-либо?

– Ни в чём, – ответили ученики.

36 – Сейчас же, если у вас есть кошелёк, возьмите его, возьмите и сумку, и если у вас нет меча, то продайте плащ, но купите меч.[d] 37 Говорю вам, что со Мной должно исполниться сказанное в Писании: «Он был причислен к преступникам»[e]. Всё, что обо Мне было написано, скоро исполнится.

38 Ученики сказали:

– Смотри, Повелитель, у нас есть два меча.

– Достаточно об этом, – ответил Исо.

Молитва на Оливковой горе(G)

39 Исо, как обычно, пошёл на Оливковую гору, и Его ученики пошли с Ним. 40 Придя на место, Исо сказал:

– Молитесь, чтобы вам не поддаться искушению.

41 Он отошёл от них примерно на расстояние брошенного камня, опустился на колени и начал молиться:

42 – Отец, если Ты хочешь, пронеси эту чашу страданий мимо Меня, но пусть всё будет не по Моей воле, а по Твоей.

43 Тогда с небес Ему явился ангел и укреплял Его. 44 В муках Исо стал молиться ещё горячее, и сделался пот Его, как капли крови, стекавшие на землю. 45 Когда Он поднялся с молитвы и вернулся к ученикам, то нашёл их спящими, потому что они были измучены печалью.

46 – Почему вы спите? – спросил Исо. – Вставайте и молитесь, чтобы вам не поддаться искушению.

Исо Масех предан и арестован(H)

47 Он ещё говорил, когда приблизилась толпа, во главе которой шёл тот, кого звали Иудой, один из двенадцати учеников. Он подошёл к Исо, чтобы поцеловать Его. 48 Исо сказал:

– Иуда, ты поцелуем предаёшь Ниспосланного как Человек?

49 Когда же те, кто был с Исо, увидели, что происходит, они спросили:

– Повелитель, а что если нам ударить мечом?

50 И один из них ударил раба главного священнослужителя и отсёк ему правое ухо. 51 Но Исо сказал:

– Прекратите, довольно!

Он прикоснулся к уху раба и исцелил его. 52 Затем Исо сказал главным священнослужителям, начальникам храмовой стражи и старейшинам, которые пришли за Ним:

– Что Я, разбойник, что вы пришли с мечами и кольями? 53 Я каждый день был с вами в храме, и вы не схватили Меня. Но сейчас ваше время, сейчас власть тьмы.

Отречение Петруса(I)

54 Они схватили Его и повели в дом верховного священнослужителя. Петрус шёл за ними на некотором расстоянии. 55 Посреди двора верховного священнослужителя разожгли костёр, и Петрус вместе с другими людьми сел к нему греться. 56 Одна из служанок, увидев Петруса в свете огня, пристально всмотрелась в него и сказала:

– Этот человек тоже был с Ним.

57 Но Петрус отрицал это.

– Я не знаю Его, женщина, – сказал он.

58 Немного позже кто-то другой увидел его и сказал:

– Ты тоже один из них.

– Нет, друг, – ответил Петрус.

59 Примерно час спустя ещё кто-то стал утверждать:

– Точно, этот человек тоже был с Ним, ведь он галилеянин.

60 Но Петрус сказал:

– Я не знаю, о чём ты говоришь!

И тотчас, когда он ещё говорил, пропел петух. 61 Повелитель повернулся и посмотрел на Петруса. И тогда Петрус вспомнил слова Повелителя, как Он сказал ему:

– Прежде чем пропоёт петух сегодня, ты трижды отречёшься от Меня.

62 И выйдя наружу, он горько заплакал.

63 Люди, охранявшие Исо, стали насмехаться над Ним и бить Его. 64 Они завязывали Ему глаза и требовали:

– Эй Ты, пророк! Скажи нам, кто Тебя ударил?

65 И говорили Ему много других оскорблений.

Исо Масех на допросе перед Советом религиозных вождей(J)

66 Рано утром старейшины народа, главные священнослужители и учители Таврота собрались вместе на Совет[f]. К ним ввели Исо.

67 – Если Ты обещанный Масех, то скажи нам прямо, – требовали они.

Исо ответил:

– Если Я скажу вам, вы не поверите, 68 и если Я вас спрошу, вы Мне не ответите. 69 Однако с этого времени Ниспосланный как Человек будет сидеть по правую руку от Всемогущего Бога.[g]

70 Они все стали спрашивать:

– Так Ты что, Сын Всевышнего (Царственный Спаситель)?

Он ответил:

– Вы сами говорите, что это Я.

71 Тогда они сказали:

– Какие нам ещё нужны свидетельства?! Мы слышали это из Его собственных уст!

Исх. 12:1-14; Чис. 1:14; Втор. 16:1-8). Со временем оба эти праздника практически слились в один, и поэтому их названия стали взаимозаменяемы.

The Plot to Kill Jesus

22 (A)Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread, which is called the (B)Passover, was drawing near. 2 And the chief priests and the scribes (C)were seeking how they might put Him to death; for they were afraid of the people.

3 (D)And (E)Satan entered into Judas who was called Iscariot, who [a]belonged to the number of the twelve. 4 And he went away and discussed with the chief priests and (F)officers how he might betray Him to them. 5 And they were glad and agreed to give him money. 6 So he consented, and began seeking a good opportunity to betray Him to them [b]apart from the crowd.

The Passover Meal

7 (G)Then came the first day of Unleavened Bread on which (H)the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed. 8 And Jesus sent (I)Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us, so that we may eat it.” 9 And they said to Him, “Where do You want us to prepare it?” 10 And He said to them, “Behold, after you have entered the city, a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him into the house that he enters. 11 And you shall say to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher says to you, “Where is the guest room in which I may eat the Passover with My disciples?”’ 12 And he will show you a large, furnished upper room; prepare it there.” 13 And they left and found everything just as He had told them; and they prepared the Passover.

The Lord’s Supper

14 (J)And when the hour had come, He reclined at the table, and (K)the apostles with Him. 15 And He said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; 16 for I say to you, I shall never again eat it (L)until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” 17 (M)And when He had taken a cup and (N)given thanks, He said, “Take this and share it among yourselves. 18 For (O)I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine from now on until the kingdom of God comes.” 19 And when He had taken some bread and (P)given thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of Me.” 20 And in the same way He took the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup which is (Q)poured out for you is the (R)new covenant in My blood. 21 (S)But behold, the hand of the one betraying Me is with Me on the table. 22 For indeed, the Son of Man is going (T)as it has been determined; but woe to that man by whom He is betrayed!” 23 And they began to argue among themselves which one of them it might be who was going to do this thing.

Who Is Greatest?

24 And there arose also (U)a dispute among them as to which one of them was regarded to be greatest. 25 (V)And He said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who have authority over them are called ‘Benefactors.’ 26 But not so with you; (W)rather the one who is the greatest among you must become like (X)the youngest, and the leader like the servant. 27 For (Y)who is greater, the one who reclines at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines? But (Z)I am among you as the one who serves.

28 “Now you are those who have stood by Me in My (AA)trials, 29 and I grant you a (AB)kingdom, just as My Father granted one to Me, 30 that you may (AC)eat and drink at My table in My (AD)kingdom, and (AE)you will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

31 “Simon, Simon, behold, (AF)Satan has [c]demanded to (AG)sift all of you like wheat. 32 But I (AH)have prayed earnestly for you, that your faith may not fail; and you, once you have returned, (AI)strengthen your brothers.” 33 (AJ)But he said to Him, “Lord, with You I am ready to go both to prison and to death!” 34 And He said, “I say to you, Peter, the rooster will not crow today until you have denied three times that you know Me.”

35 And He said to them, “(AK)When I sent you out without money belt and bag and sandals, did you lack anything?” They said, “Not a thing.” 36 And He said to them, “But now, [d]whoever has a money belt is to take it along, likewise also a bag, and [e]whoever has no sword should sell his garment and buy one. 37 For I tell you that this which is written must be [f]completed in Me, ‘(AL)And He was numbered with transgressors’; for (AM)that which refers to Me has its [g]completion.” 38 And they said, “Lord, look, here are two (AN)swords.” And He said to them, “It is enough.”

Jesus Prays in Gethsemane

39 (AO)And He came out and went (AP)as was His custom to (AQ)the Mount of Olives; and the disciples also followed Him. 40 (AR)Now when He arrived at the place, He said to them, “(AS)Pray that you may not enter into temptation.” 41 And He withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, and He (AT)knelt down and began to pray, 42 saying, “Father, if You are willing, remove this (AU)cup from Me, (AV)yet not My will, but Yours be done.” 43 [h]Now an (AW)angel from heaven appeared to Him, strengthening Him. 44 And (AX)being in agony He was praying very fervently, and His sweat became like drops of blood, falling down upon the ground. 45 And when He rose from prayer, He came to the disciples and found them sleeping from sorrow, 46 and said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Rise up and (AY)pray that you may not enter into temptation.”

The Betrayal and Arrest of Jesus

47 (AZ)While He was still speaking, behold, a crowd came, and the one called Judas, one of the twelve, was coming ahead of them, and he approached Jesus to kiss Him. 48 But Jesus said to him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?” 49 And when those around Him saw what was going to happen, they said, “Lord, shall we strike with the (BA)sword?” 50 And one of them struck the slave of the high priest and cut off his right ear. 51 But Jesus answered and said, “[i]Stop! No more of this.” And He touched his ear and healed him. 52 Then Jesus said to the chief priests and (BB)officers of the temple and elders who had come against Him, “Have you come out with swords and clubs (BC)as against a robber? 53 While I was with you daily in the temple, you did not stretch out your hands against Me, but [j]this hour and the authority of darkness are yours.”

54 (BD)Now having arrested Him, they led Him away and brought Him to the house of the high priest, but (BE)Peter was following at a distance. 55 (BF)And after they had kindled a fire in the middle of (BG)the courtyard and had sat down together, Peter was sitting among them. 56 And a servant-girl, seeing him as he sat in the firelight and looking intently at him, said, “This man was with Him too.” 57 But he denied it, saying, “Woman, I do not know Him.” 58 A little later, (BH)another saw him and said, “You are one of them too!” But Peter said, “Man, I am not!” 59 And after about an hour had passed, another man began to insist, saying, “Certainly this man was with Him too, (BI)for he also is a Galilean.” 60 But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are talking about.” Immediately, while he was still speaking, a rooster crowed. 61 (BJ)And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had told him, “(BK)Before a rooster crows today, you will deny Me three times.” 62 And he went out and cried bitterly.

63 (BL)Now the men who were holding [k]Jesus in custody were mocking Him while they beat Him, 64 and they blindfolded Him and were asking Him, saying, “(BM)Prophesy, who is the one who hit You?” 65 And they were saying many other things against Him, (BN)blaspheming.

Jesus Before the Sanhedrin

66 (BO)And as the day came, (BP)the Council of elders of the people assembled, both chief priests and scribes, and they led Him away to their (BQ)Sanhedrin, saying, 67 “(BR)If You are the [l]Christ, tell us.” But He said to them, “If I tell you, you will not believe, 68 and if I ask a question, you will not answer. 69 (BS)But from now on (BT)the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the power of [m]God.” 70 And they all said, “Are You (BU)the Son of God, then?” And He said to them, “(BV)You yourselves say that I am.” 71 Then they said, “What further need do we have of testimony? For we have heard it ourselves from His own mouth.”

22 Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the Passover.

2 And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill him; for they feared the people.

3 Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.

4 And he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them.

5 And they were glad, and covenanted to give him money.

6 And he promised, and sought opportunity to betray him unto them in the absence of the multitude.

7 Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed.

8 And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat.

9 And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare?

10 And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in.

11 And ye shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?

12 And he shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready.

13 And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.

14 And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.

15 And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer:

16 For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.

17 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves:

18 For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.

19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.

20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.

21 But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table.

22 And truly the Son of man goeth, as it was determined: but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed!

23 And they began to enquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.

24 And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest.

25 And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors.

26 But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.

27 For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth.

28 Ye are they which have continued with me in my temptations.

29 And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me;

30 That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:

32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.

33 And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death.

34 And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.

35 And he said unto them, When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing.

36 Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.

37 For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end.

38 And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough.

39 And he came out, and went, as he was wont, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him.

40 And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation.

41 And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,

42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.

43 And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.

44 And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

45 And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow,

46 And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.

47 And while he yet spake, behold a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and drew near unto Jesus to kiss him.

48 But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?

49 When they which were about him saw what would follow, they said unto him, Lord, shall we smite with the sword?

50 And one of them smote the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear.

51 And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him.

52 Then Jesus said unto the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and the elders, which were come to him, Be ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and staves?

53 When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.

54 Then took they him, and led him, and brought him into the high priest's house. And Peter followed afar off.

55 And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were set down together, Peter sat down among them.

56 But a certain maid beheld him as he sat by the fire, and earnestly looked upon him, and said, This man was also with him.

57 And he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not.

58 And after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou art also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not.

59 And about the space of one hour after another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this fellow also was with him: for he is a Galilaean.

60 And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew.

61 And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.

62 And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.

63 And the men that held Jesus mocked him, and smote him.

64 And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him, saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote thee?

65 And many other things blasphemously spake they against him.

66 And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people and the chief priests and the scribes came together, and led him into their council, saying,

67 Art thou the Christ? tell us. And he said unto them, If I tell you, ye will not believe:

68 And if I also ask you, ye will not answer me, nor let me go.

69 Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God.

70 Then said they all, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, Ye say that I am.

71 And they said, What need we any further witness? for we ourselves have heard of his own mouth.
