Judas trai Jesus
(Mt 26.1-5, 14-16; Mc 14.1-2, 10-11; Jo 11.45-53)
22 Aproximava-se já a celebração da Páscoa, a festa judaica durante a qual só se comia pão feito sem fermento. 2 Os principais sacerdotes e especialistas na Lei tramavam ativamente o assassínio de Jesus, pensando na maneira de o matar sem provocar tumulto, perigo que muito receavam.
3 Então Satanás entrou em Judas, o chamado Iscariotes, um dos doze discípulos, 4 o qual foi ter com os principais sacerdotes e com os capitães da guarda do templo, a fim de combinar a melhor maneira de lhes entregar Jesus. 5 Eles ficaram muito satisfeitos ao saberem que Judas estava pronto a auxiliá-los e prometeram-lhe uma recompensa. 6 Assim, começou a aguardar qualquer oportunidade para lhes entregar Jesus sem dar nas vistas.
A última ceia
(Mt 26.17-30; Mc 14.12-26; Jo 13.21-30; 1 Co 11.23-25)
7 Ao chegar o dia da celebração dos pães sem fermento, em que se matava o cordeiro da Páscoa, 8 Jesus enviou Pedro e João à frente para que arranjassem um lugar onde preparar a sua refeição da Páscoa.
9 “Onde queres que a preparemos?”, perguntaram.
10 “Logo que entrarem na cidade encontrarão um homem transportando um cântaro de água. Sigam-no até à casa onde entrar 11 e digam ao dono da casa: ‘O Mestre pergunta: “Onde fica a sala onde irei comer a refeição da Páscoa com os meus discípulos?” ’ 12 Ele vos levará ao andar de cima, a uma sala grande, toda arranjada. É ali que devem preparar a ceia.” 13 Eles partiram e, tendo encontrado tudo como Jesus tinha dito, prepararam a ceia da Páscoa.
14 Então chegou Jesus com os discípulos e, no momento devido, todos se sentaram à mesa. 15 Jesus disse: “Desejei muito comer esta Páscoa convosco antes de começar o meu sofrimento. 16 Porque vos digo que não comerei outra vez assim, na vossa companhia, senão quando o que esta refeição representa se realizar no reino de Deus.”
17 Pegou então num cálice de vinho e, depois de ter dado graças, disse: “Tomem e repartam entre vós, 18 porque só tornarei a beber vinho quando tiver chegado o reino de Deus.”
19 Depois pegou no pão e, dando igualmente graças a Deus por ele, partiu-o e deu-o aos discípulos: “Este é o meu corpo que é dado em vosso favor. Façam isto em memória de mim.” 20 Depois da ceia serviu-lhes de novo o cálice de vinho, e disse: “Este cálice é a nova aliança, selada com o meu sangue que é derramado em vosso favor.
21 Mas aqui sentado comigo a esta mesa está também quem me vai trair. 22 O Filho do Homem tem de morrer, porque isso faz parte do plano de Deus. Mas ai do homem que me vai trair!”
23 Os discípulos puseram-se a perguntar entre si quem, de entre eles, seria capaz de fazer semelhante coisa.
O maior no reino dos céus
(Mt 20.25-28; 19.28; Mc 10.42-45)
24 Depois começaram também a discutir qual deles seria o mais importante. 25 Jesus disse-lhes: “Os reis entre os gentios dominam sobre eles e aos que exercem autoridade sobre eles chamam-lhes benfeitores! 26 No vosso meio, porém, não seja assim. O mais velho no vosso meio seja como o mais novo e o soberano será como aquele que serve. 27 O senhor senta-se à mesa e é servido pelos criados. Mas aqui, não! Porque sou eu quem vos serve. 28 Porque vocês têm continuado comigo nestes tempos de aflição; 29 e como o meu Pai me deu o reino, 30 eu concedo-vos o direito de comer e beber à minha mesa nesse reino. E sentar-se-ão em tronos para julgar as doze tribos de Israel.
Jesus avisa Pedro
(Mt 26.33-35; Mc 14.29-31; Jo 13.37-38)
31 Simão, Simão, Satanás pediu para vos peneirar a todos como o trigo. 32 Mas eu intercedi por ti para que a tua fé não enfraqueça. Assim, quando te tiveres voltado para mim, fortalece os teus irmãos.”
33 Simão disse: “Senhor, estou pronto até a ir para a prisão e a morrer contigo!”
34 Jesus respondeu: “Pedro, deixa-me dizer-te uma coisa: Até o galo cantar, esta madrugada, três vezes dirás que não me conheces!”
35 Então Jesus perguntou-lhes: “Quando vos enviei a pregar as boas novas e não tinham dinheiro, nem bagagem, nem vestuário de muda, como é que se governaram?” Responderam: “Bem. Nada nos faltou!”
36 “Mas agora”, Jesus disse, “se tiverem um saco ou um bolsa com dinheiro, levem-nos! E se não possuírem uma espada, vendam a roupa e comprem uma! 37 Porque chegou a altura de se cumprir isto que está escrito a meu respeito: ‘Ele foi contado entre os transgressores.’[a] Sim, o que se escreveu acerca de mim se cumprirá.”
38 “Mestre, temos aqui duas espadas!” Jesus retorquiu: “Basta!”
Jesus ora no monte das Oliveiras
(Mt 26.36-46; Mc 14.32-42)
39 Então, acompanhado dos discípulos, deixou aquela sala e foi, como de costume, para o monte das Oliveiras. 40 Ali disse-lhes: “Orem para não serem vencidos pela tentação!”
41 Afastou-se à distância de cerca de um tiro de pedra e, ajoelhando-se, orou assim: 42 “Pai, se quiseres, peço-te que leves de mim este cálice. Mas que se cumpra a tua vontade e não a minha.” 43 Então apareceu um anjo vindo do céu que o confortava. 44 Porque estava em tal agonia de espírito que o seu suor era de sangue, caindo em gotas no chão, enquanto orava com fervor cada vez maior. 45 Por fim, tornou a levantar-se e voltou para junto dos discípulos, encontrando-os a dormir, exaustos de tristeza. 46 “Estão a dormir!”, exclamou. “Levantem-se! Orem para não serem vencidos pela tentação!”
Jesus é detido
(Mt 26.47-56; Mc 14.43-50; Jo 18.3-11)
47 No próprio momento em que dizia isto, acercou-se uma multidão conduzida por Judas, um dos doze, o qual foi direito a Jesus para o beijar, numa saudação amistosa. 48 Jesus disse-lhe: “Judas, com um beijo trais o Filho do Homem?”
49 Quando os outros discípulos viram o que ia acontecer, exclamaram: “Mestre, queres que lutemos? Temos as espadas!” 50 E um deles chegou a desferir um golpe contra um servo do sumo sacerdote, cortando-lhe a orelha direita.
51 Mas Jesus respondeu: “Não resistam.” E, tocando no sítio da orelha do homem, restituiu-lha. 52 Então, dirigindo-se aos principais sacerdotes, aos capitães da guarda do templo e aos anciãos que conduziam a multidão, Jesus perguntou: “Sou algum assaltante perigoso para que venham com espadas e paus? 53 Todos os dias estava convosco a ensinar no templo e não me prenderam. Mas este momento é vosso; é a hora em que domina o poder das trevas.”
Pedro nega Jesus
(Mt 26.57-58, 69-75; Mc 14.53-54, 66-72; Jo 18.12-18, 25-27)
54 Agarraram-no e levaram-no à residência do sumo sacerdote. Pedro seguia-o à distância. 55 Acenderam uma fogueira no pátio e as pessoas sentaram-se em volta para se aquecerem. Pedro juntou-se a eles.
56 Reparando na sua presença, uma criada pôs-se a olhá-lo e disse: “Esse estava com Jesus!”
57 Pedro negou: “Mulher, nem sequer o conheço!”
58 Dali a pouco, mais alguém olhou para ele e exclamou: “Também tu deves ser um dos tais!” Pedro respondeu: “Não, não sou!”
59 Decorrida cerca de uma hora, ainda outra pessoa afirmou abertamente: “Sei que este é um dos discípulos de Jesus, até porque ambos são da Galileia.”
60 Mas Pedro disse: “Homem, não sei o que estás para aí a dizer.” E enquanto pronunciava estas palavras, cantou um galo. 61 Naquele instante, Jesus voltou-se e olhou para Pedro. Então lembrou-se do que lhe dissera: “Hoje, antes que o galo cante, negar-me-ás três vezes.” 62 E saindo dali chorou amargamente.
Jesus no tribunal judaico
(Mt 26.59-68; Mc 14.55-65; Jo 18.19-24)
63 Os guardas que estavam a tomar conta de Jesus começaram a fazer pouco dele. 64 Tapando-lhe os olhos, batiam-lhe e davam-lhe socos, perguntando-lhe: “Profetiza-nos quem foi que te bateu agora?” 65 E insultavam-no de muitas outras maneiras.
66 Ao romper do dia, reuniu-se o conselho dos anciãos do povo, os principais sacerdotes e os especialistas na Lei. Jesus foi conduzido perante o conselho dos anciãos 67 e intimado a responder. “Diz lá, tu és o Cristo?” Ele respondeu: “Se o disser, não acreditarão em mim 68 nem me deixarão defender-me. 69 Mas em breve o Filho do Homem estará sentado à direita de Deus Todo-Poderoso.”
70 Logo todos gritaram: “Afirmas, então, que és o Filho de Deus?” E Jesus respondeu: “Estão certos em dizer que sou!”
71 “Que necessidade temos nós de outras testemunhas?”, perguntaram. “Nós próprios ouvimos o que ele disse.”

Sfat împotriva lui Isus
22 Praznicul Azimilor, numit Paştele, se(A) apropia. 2 Preoţii cei mai de seamă şi cărturarii căutau(B) un mijloc cum să omoare pe Isus; căci se temeau de norod. 3 Dar(C) Satana a intrat în Iuda, zis şi Iscarioteanul, care era din numărul celor doisprezece. 4 Iuda s-a dus să se înţeleagă cu preoţii cei mai de seamă şi cu căpeteniile străjerilor Templului cum să-L dea în mâinile lor. 5 Ei s-au bucurat şi au căzut(D) la învoială să-i dea bani. 6 După ce le-a făgăduit că li-L va da în mâini, Iuda căuta un prilej nimerit să dea pe Isus în mâinile lor, fără ştirea norodului.
Prăznuirea Paştelor
7 Ziua(E) Praznicului Azimilor, în care trebuiau jertfite Paştele, a venit. 8 Şi Isus a trimis pe Petru şi pe Ioan şi le-a zis: „Duceţi-vă de pregătiţi-ne Paştele, ca să mâncăm”. 9 „Unde voieşti să pregătim?” L-au întrebat ei. 10 El le-a răspuns: „Iată, când veţi intra în cetate, vă va ieşi înainte un om, ducând un urcior cu apă; mergeţi după el în casa în care va intra 11 şi spuneţi stăpânului casei: ‘Învăţătorul îţi zice: «Unde este odaia pentru oaspeţi, în care să mănânc Paştele cu ucenicii Mei?»’ 12 Şi are să vă arate o odaie mare de sus, aşternută gata: acolo să pregătiţi Paştele.” 13 Ei au plecat şi au găsit aşa cum le spusese El. Şi au pregătit Paştele. 14 Când(F) a sosit ceasul, Isus a şezut la masă cu cei doisprezece apostoli. 15 El le-a zis: „Am dorit mult să mănânc Paştele acestea cu voi înainte de patima Mea; 16 căci vă spun că, de acum încolo, nu le voi mai mânca până(G) la împlinirea lor în Împărăţia lui Dumnezeu.” 17 Şi a luat un pahar, a mulţumit lui Dumnezeu şi a zis: „Luaţi paharul acesta şi împărţiţi-l între voi, 18 pentru că vă spun(H) că nu voi mai bea de acum încolo din rodul viţei, până când va veni Împărăţia lui Dumnezeu.” 19 Apoi(I), a luat pâine şi, după ce a mulţumit lui Dumnezeu, a frânt-o şi le-a dat-o zicând: „Acesta este trupul Meu, care se dă pentru voi; să faceţi lucrul acesta(J) spre pomenirea Mea”. 20 Tot astfel, după ce au mâncat, a luat paharul şi li l-a dat, zicând: „Acest(K) pahar este legământul cel nou, făcut în sângele Meu, care se varsă pentru voi”.
Descoperirea vânzătorului
21 „Dar(L) iată că mâna vânzătorului Meu este cu Mine la masa aceasta. 22 Negreşit(M), Fiul omului Se duce după cum(N) este rânduit. Dar vai de omul acela prin care este vândut El!” 23 Şi(O) au început să se întrebe unii pe alţii cine din ei să fie acela care va face lucrul acesta.
Care este cel mai mare?
24 Între apostoli s-a(P) iscat şi o ceartă, ca să ştie care din ei avea să fie socotit ca cel mai mare? 25 Isus le-a(Q) zis: „Împăraţii neamurilor domnesc peste ele şi, celor ce le stăpânesc, li se dă numele de binefăcători. 26 Voi(R) să nu fiţi aşa. Ci(S) cel mai mare dintre voi să fie ca cel mai mic şi cel ce cârmuieşte, ca cel ce slujeşte. 27 Căci(T) care este mai mare: cine stă la masă sau cine slujeşte la masă? Nu cine stă la masă? Şi Eu(U) totuşi sunt în mijlocul vostru ca cel ce slujeşte la masă. 28 Voi sunteţi aceia care aţi rămas necontenit cu Mine în încercările(V) Mele. 29 De aceea vă(W) pregătesc Împărăţia, după cum Tatăl Meu Mi-a pregătit-o Mie, 30 ca(X) să mâncaţi şi să beţi la masa Mea în Împărăţia Mea, şi să(Y) şedeţi pe scaune de domnie, ca să judecaţi pe cele douăsprezece seminţii ale lui Israel.”
Înştiinţarea lui Petru
31 Domnul a zis: „Simone, Simone, Satana(Z) v-a cerut să vă cearnă(AA) ca grâul. 32 Dar Eu(AB) M-am rugat pentru tine, ca să nu se piardă credinţa ta şi, după ce te(AC) vei întoarce la Dumnezeu, să întăreşti pe fraţii tăi.” 33 „Doamne”, I-a zis Petru, „cu Tine sunt gata să merg chiar şi în temniţă şi la moarte”. 34 Şi(AD) Isus i-a zis: „Petre, îţi spun că nu va cânta astăzi cocoşul, până te vei lepăda de trei ori că nu Mă cunoşti”. 35 Apoi(AE), le-a mai zis: „Când v-am trimis fără pungă, fără traistă şi fără încălţăminte, aţi dus voi lipsă de ceva?” „De nimic”, I-au răspuns ei. 36 Şi El le-a zis: „Acum, dimpotrivă, cine are o pungă s-o ia; cine are o traistă de asemenea s-o ia şi cine n-are sabie să-şi vândă haina şi să-şi cumpere o sabie. 37 Căci vă spun că trebuie să se împlinească cu Mine aceste cuvinte scrise: ‘El(AF) a fost pus în numărul celor fărădelege’. Şi lucrurile privitoare la Mine sunt gata să se împlinească.” 38 „Doamne”, I-au zis ei, „iată aici două săbii”. Şi El le-a zis: „Destul!”
Ghetsimani
39 După ce(AG) a ieşit afară, S-a(AH) dus, ca de obicei, în Muntele Măslinilor. Ucenicii Lui au mers după El. 40 Când(AI) a ajuns la locul acela, le-a zis: „Rugaţi-vă, ca să nu cădeţi în ispită”. 41 Apoi(AJ), S-a depărtat de ei ca la o aruncătură de piatră, a îngenuncheat şi a început să Se roage, 42 zicând: „Tată, dacă voieşti, depărtează paharul acesta de la Mine! Totuşi facă-se nu(AK) voia Mea, ci a Ta.” 43 Atunci I s-a arătat un înger(AL) din cer, ca să-L întărească. 44 A(AM) ajuns într-un chin ca de moarte şi a început să Se roage şi mai fierbinte; şi sudoarea I se făcuse ca nişte picături mari de sânge, care cădeau pe pământ. 45 După ce S-a rugat, S-a sculat şi a venit la ucenici; i-a găsit adormiţi de întristare 46 şi le-a zis: „Pentru ce dormiţi? Sculaţi-vă şi rugaţi-vă(AN), ca să nu cădeţi în ispită.”
Prinderea lui Isus
47 Pe când grăia El încă, iată(AO) că a venit o gloată. Şi cel ce se chema Iuda, unul din cei doisprezece, mergea în fruntea lor. El s-a apropiat de Isus, ca să-L sărute. 48 Şi Isus i-a zis: „Iudo, cu o sărutare vinzi tu pe Fiul omului?” 49 Cei ce erau cu Isus au văzut ce avea să se întâmple şi au zis: „Doamne, să lovim cu sabia?” 50 Şi unul(AP) din ei a lovit pe robul marelui preot şi i-a tăiat urechea dreaptă. 51 Dar Isus a luat cuvântul şi a zis: „Lăsaţi-i! Până aici!”Şi S-a atins de urechea omului aceluia şi l-a vindecat. 52 Isus(AQ) a zis apoi preoţilor celor mai de seamă, căpeteniilor străjerilor Templului şi bătrânilor, care veniseră împotriva Lui: „Aţi ieşit după Mine ca după un tâlhar, cu săbii şi cu ciomege? 53 În toate zilele eram cu voi în Templu, şi n-aţi pus mâna pe Mine. Dar(AR) acesta este ceasul vostru şi puterea întunericului.”
Tăgăduirea lui Petru
54 După ce(AS) au pus mâna pe Isus, L-au dus şi L-au băgat în casa marelui preot. Petru mergea(AT) după El de departe. 55 Au(AU) aprins un foc în mijlocul curţii şi au şezut jos. Petru s-a aşezat şi el printre ei. 56 O slujnică l-a văzut cum şedea la para focului, s-a uitat ţintă la el şi a zis: „Şi omul acesta era cu El.” 57 Dar Petru s-a lepădat şi a zis: „Femeie, nu-L cunosc”. 58 Peste(AV) puţin, l-a văzut un altul şi a zis: „Şi tu eşti unul din oamenii aceia”. Iar Petru a zis: „Omule, nu sunt dintre ei”. 59 Cam(AW) după un ceas, un altul întărea acelaşi lucru şi zicea: „Nu mai încape îndoială că şi omul acesta era cu El, căci este galileean.” 60 Petru a răspuns: „Omule, nu ştiu ce zici”. Chiar în clipa aceea, pe când vorbea el încă, a cântat cocoşul. 61 Domnul S-a întors şi S-a uitat ţintă la Petru. Şi(AX) Petru şi-a adus aminte de vorba pe care i-o spusese Domnul: „Înainte(AY) ca să cânte cocoşul, te vei lepăda de Mine de trei ori”. 62 Şi a ieşit afară şi a plâns cu amar.
Isus înaintea Sinedriului. Osândirea
63 Oamenii(AZ) care păzeau pe Isus Îl batjocoreau şi-L băteau. 64 L-au legat la ochi, Îl loveau peste faţă şi-L întrebau, zicând: „Proroceşte, cine Te-a lovit?” 65 Şi rosteau împotriva Lui multe alte batjocuri. 66 Când(BA) s-a făcut ziuă, bătrânii norodului, preoţii cei mai de seamă şi cărturarii s-au(BB) adunat împreună şi au adus pe Isus în Soborul lor. Ei I-au zis: 67 „Dacă(BC) eşti Tu Hristosul, spune-ne!” Isus le-a răspuns: „Dacă vă voi spune, nu veţi crede 68 şi dacă vă voi întreba, nu-Mi veţi răspunde, nici nu-Mi veţi da drumul. 69 De acum(BD) încolo, Fiul omului va şedea la dreapta puterii lui Dumnezeu.” 70 Toţi au zis: „Eşti Tu dar Fiul lui Dumnezeu?” Şi El le-a răspuns: „Aşa cum o spuneţi(BE); da, sunt”. 71 Atunci(BF), ei au zis: „Ce nevoie mai avem de mărturie? Noi înşine am auzit-o din gura Lui.”

Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus(A)
22 Now the Festival of Unleavened Bread, called the Passover, was approaching,(B) 2 and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were looking for some way to get rid of Jesus,(C) for they were afraid of the people. 3 Then Satan(D) entered Judas, called Iscariot,(E) one of the Twelve. 4 And Judas went to the chief priests and the officers of the temple guard(F) and discussed with them how he might betray Jesus. 5 They were delighted and agreed to give him money.(G) 6 He consented, and watched for an opportunity to hand Jesus over to them when no crowd was present.
The Last Supper(H)(I)(J)(K)(L)
7 Then came the day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed.(M) 8 Jesus sent Peter and John,(N) saying, “Go and make preparations for us to eat the Passover.”
9 “Where do you want us to prepare for it?” they asked.
10 He replied, “As you enter the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him to the house that he enters, 11 and say to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher asks: Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’ 12 He will show you a large room upstairs, all furnished. Make preparations there.”
13 They left and found things just as Jesus had told them.(O) So they prepared the Passover.
14 When the hour came, Jesus and his apostles(P) reclined at the table.(Q) 15 And he said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.(R) 16 For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God.”(S)
17 After taking the cup, he gave thanks and said, “Take this and divide it among you. 18 For I tell you I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”
19 And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it,(T) and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.”
20 In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant(U) in my blood, which is poured out for you.[a] 21 But the hand of him who is going to betray me is with mine on the table.(V) 22 The Son of Man(W) will go as it has been decreed.(X) But woe to that man who betrays him!” 23 They began to question among themselves which of them it might be who would do this.
24 A dispute also arose among them as to which of them was considered to be greatest.(Y) 25 Jesus said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who exercise authority over them call themselves Benefactors. 26 But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest,(Z) and the one who rules like the one who serves.(AA) 27 For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.(AB) 28 You are those who have stood by me in my trials. 29 And I confer on you a kingdom,(AC) just as my Father conferred one on me, 30 so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom(AD) and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.(AE)
31 “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked(AF) to sift all of you as wheat.(AG) 32 But I have prayed for you,(AH) Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”(AI)
33 But he replied, “Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death.”(AJ)
34 Jesus answered, “I tell you, Peter, before the rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know me.”
35 Then Jesus asked them, “When I sent you without purse, bag or sandals,(AK) did you lack anything?”
“Nothing,” they answered.
36 He said to them, “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one. 37 It is written: ‘And he was numbered with the transgressors’[b];(AL) and I tell you that this must be fulfilled in me. Yes, what is written about me is reaching its fulfillment.”
38 The disciples said, “See, Lord, here are two swords.”
“That’s enough!” he replied.
Jesus Prays on the Mount of Olives(AM)
39 Jesus went out as usual(AN) to the Mount of Olives,(AO) and his disciples followed him. 40 On reaching the place, he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.”(AP) 41 He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down(AQ) and prayed, 42 “Father, if you are willing, take this cup(AR) from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.”(AS) 43 An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him.(AT) 44 And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.[c]
45 When he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow. 46 “Why are you sleeping?” he asked them. “Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.”(AU)
Jesus Arrested(AV)
47 While he was still speaking a crowd came up, and the man who was called Judas, one of the Twelve, was leading them. He approached Jesus to kiss him, 48 but Jesus asked him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”
49 When Jesus’ followers saw what was going to happen, they said, “Lord, should we strike with our swords?”(AW) 50 And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear.
51 But Jesus answered, “No more of this!” And he touched the man’s ear and healed him.
52 Then Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple guard,(AX) and the elders, who had come for him, “Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come with swords and clubs? 53 Every day I was with you in the temple courts,(AY) and you did not lay a hand on me. But this is your hour(AZ)—when darkness reigns.”(BA)
Peter Disowns Jesus(BB)
54 Then seizing him, they led him away and took him into the house of the high priest.(BC) Peter followed at a distance.(BD) 55 And when some there had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and had sat down together, Peter sat down with them. 56 A servant girl saw him seated there in the firelight. She looked closely at him and said, “This man was with him.”
57 But he denied it. “Woman, I don’t know him,” he said.
58 A little later someone else saw him and said, “You also are one of them.”
“Man, I am not!” Peter replied.
59 About an hour later another asserted, “Certainly this fellow was with him, for he is a Galilean.”(BE)
60 Peter replied, “Man, I don’t know what you’re talking about!” Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed. 61 The Lord(BF) turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times.”(BG) 62 And he went outside and wept bitterly.
The Guards Mock Jesus(BH)
63 The men who were guarding Jesus began mocking and beating him. 64 They blindfolded him and demanded, “Prophesy! Who hit you?” 65 And they said many other insulting things to him.(BI)
Jesus Before Pilate and Herod(BJ)(BK)(BL)
66 At daybreak the council(BM) of the elders of the people, both the chief priests and the teachers of the law, met together,(BN) and Jesus was led before them. 67 “If you are the Messiah,” they said, “tell us.”
Jesus answered, “If I tell you, you will not believe me, 68 and if I asked you, you would not answer.(BO) 69 But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God.”(BP)
70 They all asked, “Are you then the Son of God?”(BQ)
He replied, “You say that I am.”(BR)
71 Then they said, “Why do we need any more testimony? We have heard it from his own lips.”
