Ang Kapanganakan ni Jesus(A)
2 Nang mga araw na iyon, lumabas ang isang utos mula kay Emperador Augusto na magpatala ang lahat sa buong mundo. 2 Naganap ang unang pagpapatalang ito nang si Quirinio ang gobernador ng Syria. 3 Umuwi nga ang bawat isa sa kani-kanilang bayan upang magpatala. 4 Pumunta rin si Jose mula sa bayan ng Nazareth ng Galilea patungong Judea, sa lungsod ni David na kung tawagin ay Bethlehem dahil siya ay mula sa lipi at sambahayan ni David. 5 Kasama niyang magpapatala si Maria, na ipinagkasundo sa kanya; nagdadalang-tao na si Maria noon. 6 Habang sila'y naroroon, dumating ang oras ng panganganak ni Maria. 7 At isinilang niya ang kanyang panganay na lalaki, binalot niya ito ng lampin at inihiga sa sabsaban, sapagkat walang lugar para sa kanila sa bahay-panuluyan.
Ang mga Pastol at ang mga Anghel
8 Kinagabihan, sa lupain ding iyon ay may mga pastol sa parang na nagbabantay ng kanilang mga kawan. 9 Bigla na lang lumitaw sa harapan nila ang anghel ng Panginoon, at ang kaluwalhatian ng Diyos ay nagliwanag sa kanilang paligid; sila ay lubhang natakot. 10 Ngunit sinabi sa kanila ng anghel, “Huwag kayong matakot, sapagkat dala ko sa inyo ang mabuting balitang ikagagalak ng lahat ng tao. 11 Sa araw na ito, isinilang sa bayan ni David ang inyong Tagapagligtas, ang Cristong Panginoon. 12 At ito ang palatandaan para sa inyo: matatagpuan ninyo ang isang sanggol na binalot sa lampin at nakahiga sa sabsaban.” 13 Walang anu-ano'y sumama sa anghel ang isang malaking hukbo ng kalangitan. Sila'y nagpupuri sa Diyos at nagsasabi:
14 “Luwalhati sa Diyos sa kaitaas-taasan,
at sa daigdig, kapayapaan sa mga taong kanyang kinalulugdan.”[a]
15 Nang iwan sila ng mga anghel, sinabi ng mga pastol sa isa't isa, “Tayo na sa Bethlehem! Tingnan natin ang pangyayaring ito na ibinalita sa atin ng Panginoon.” 16 At nagmamadali silang nagpunta at natagpuan nila sina Maria, si Jose, at ang sanggol na nakahiga sa sabsaban. 17 Nang makita ito, ipinaalam nila ang mga sinabi tungkol sa sanggol na ito. 18 Namangha ang lahat ng nakarinig sa sinabi sa kanila ng mga pastol. 19 Pinahalagahan ni Maria ang lahat ng mga ito sa kanyang kalooban at pinagbulay-bulayan. 20 Nagpupuring umalis ang mga pastol at niluluwalhati ang Diyos sapagkat lahat ng kanilang nakita at narinig ay ayon sa sinabi sa kanila ng anghel. 21 Makalipas ang walong araw, tinuli ang bata at pinangalanang Jesus, ayon sa pangalang ibinigay sa kanya ng anghel bago pa siya ipinagdalang-tao.
Ang Paghahandog kay Jesus
22 Nang sumapit na ang araw ng kanilang paglilinis ayon sa Kautusan ni Moises, dinala ng kanyang mga magulang ang sanggol sa Jerusalem upang ihandog sa Panginoon. 23 Ito ay ayon sa nakasaad sa Kautusan ng Panginoon, “Ang bawat panganay na lalaki ay itatalaga sa Panginoon.” 24 Nag-alay din sila nang ayon sa sinabi sa Kautusan ng Panginoon, “dalawang batu-bato o dalawang batang kalapati.” 25 May isang tao noon sa Jerusalem na ang pangalan ay Simeon. Ang lalaking ito ay matuwid at masipag sa kabanalan at naghihintay sa pagpapalaya sa Israel. Sumasakanya ang Banal na Espiritu. 26 Ipinahayag ng Banal na Espiritu sa kanya na makikita muna niya ang Cristo ng Panginoon bago siya mamatay. 27 Sa patnubay ng Espiritu ay pumasok si Simeon sa templo. At nakita niya na dala-dala si Jesus ng kanyang mga magulang upang gawin ang nakaugalian ayon sa Kautusan. 28 Kinarga ni Simeon ang sanggol at nagpuri sa Panginoon. Sinabi niya,
29 “Ngayon, Panginoon ko, ayon sa inyong ipinangako,
mapayapa mo nang kunin ang iyong alipin.
30 Sapagkat namalas na ng aking mga mata ang iyong pagliligtas,
31 na inyong inihanda, sa harap ng lahat ng bansa:
32 Isang ilaw ng pagpapahayag sa mga Hentil
at para sa kaluwalhatian ng bansa mong Israel.”
33 Ang ama at ina ng sanggol ay namangha sa mga sinabi tungkol sa kanya. 34 At binasbasan sila ni Simeon at sinabi kay Maria na ina ng sanggol, “Tandaan mo ang sasabihin ko: itinalaga ang batang ito para sa pagbagsak at pagbangon ng marami sa Israel. Siya'y magiging tanda na sasalungatin ng marami, 35 at mahahayag ang iniisip ng marami—at tila isang balaraw ang tatarak sa iyong puso.” 36 Naroon din si Ana, isang propetang babae na anak ni Fanuel, mula sa lipi ni Aser. Napakatanda na niya. Pitong taon niyang nakapiling ang kanyang asawa matapos maikasal. 37 Ngayon ay isa na siyang balo sa edad na walumpu't apat. Hindi niya nililisan ang templo kundi araw at gabi siyang nag-aayuno at nananalangin doon. 38 Pagdating niya nang mga oras na iyon, nagpuri siya sa Diyos at nagsimulang magsalita tungkol sa sanggol sa lahat ng mga naghihintay ng katubusan ng Israel.
Ang Pagbabalik sa Nazareth
39 Pagkatapos nilang maisagawa ang lahat ng ayon sa Kautusan ng Panginoon, bumalik ang mga magulang ni Jesus sa kanilang bayang Nazareth sa Galilea. 40 Lumaking malusog ang bata, puspos ng karunungan at sumasakanya ang kagandahang-loob ng Diyos.
Ang Batang si Jesus sa Templo
41 Taun-taon, tuwing Pista ng Paskuwa, nagpupunta sa Jerusalem ang mga magulang ni Jesus. 42 Nang naglabindalawang taong gulang na siya, umahon sila patungo sa kapistahan ayon sa kaugalian. 43 Nang matapos ang pista at sila ay pabalik na, nanatili ang batang si Jesus sa Jerusalem na hindi namamalayan ng kanyang mga magulang. 44 Sa pag-aakalang kasama nila sa paglalakbay si Jesus sa kanilang grupo, tumagal nang isang araw bago nila ito hinanap sa kanilang mga kamag-anak at kakilala. 45 Nang hindi siya matagpuan, bumalik sila sa Jerusalem upang hanapin siya. 46 Makalipas ang tatlong araw, natagpuan nila ito na nakaupo sa templo, sa kalagitnaan ng mga guro—nakikinig at nagtatanong sa kanila. 47 Ang lahat ng nakapakinig sa kanya ay manghang-mangha sa kanyang katalinuhan at mga sagot. 48 Nang makita siya ng kanyang mga magulang, namangha sila. Sinabi sa kanya ng kanyang ina, “Anak, bakit ganito ang ginawa mo sa amin? Ako at ang iyong ama ay nag-aalala sa kahahanap sa iyo.” 49 Sinabi sa kanila ni Jesus, “Bakit po ninyo ako hinahanap? Hindi ba ninyo alam na dapat ay nasa tahanan ako ng aking ama?” 50 Ngunit hindi nila naunawaan ang sinabi niya sa kanila. 51 Umalis siyang kasama nila pauwi sa Nazareth at siya ay naging masunurin sa kanila. At pinakaingatan ng kanyang ina ang mga bagay na ito sa kanyang puso. 52 Lumago si Jesus sa karunungan at pangangatawan, at naging kalugud-lugod sa Diyos at sa mga tao.

8 At may mga pastor ng tupa sa lupain ding yaon na nangasa parang, na pinagpupuyatan sa gabi ang kanilang kawan.
9 At tumayo sa tabi nila ang isang anghel ng Panginoon, at ang kaluwalhatian ng Panginoon ay nagliwanag sa palibot nila: at sila'y totoong nangatakot.
10 At sinabi sa kanila ng anghel, Huwag kayong mangatakot; sapagka't narito, dinadalhan ko kayo ng mabubuting balita ng malaking kagalakan, na siyang sasa buong bayan:
11 Sapagka't ipinanganak sa inyo ngayon sa bayan ni David ang isang Tagapagligtas, na siya ang Cristo ang Panginoon.
12 At ito ang sa inyo'y magiging pinakatanda: Masusumpungan ninyo ang isang sanggol na nababalot ng lampin, at nakahiga sa isang pasabsaban.
13 At biglang nakisama sa anghel ang isang karamihang hukbo ng langit, na nangagpupuri sa Dios, at nangagsasabi:
14 Luwalhati sa Dios sa kataastaasan, At sa lupa'y kapayapaan sa mga taong kinalulugdan niya.
15 At nangyari nang lisanin sila ng mga anghel at nangapasa langit, ang mga pastor ay nangagsangusapan. Magsiparoon nga tayo ngayon hanggang sa Bet-lehem, at tingnan natin itong nangyari, na ipinagbigay alam sa atin ng Panginoon.
16 At sila'y dalidaling nagsiparoon at nasumpungan kapuwa si Maria at si Jose, at ang sanggol na nakahiga sa pasabsaban.
17 At nang makita nila yaon, ay inihayag nila ang mga sinabi sa kanila tungkol sa sanggol na ito.
18 At lahat ng nangakarinig nito ay nangagtaka sa mga bagay na sinabi sa kanila ng mga pastor.
19 Datapuwa't iningatan ni Maria ang lahat ng mga pananalitang ito, na pinagbulaybulay sa kaniyang puso.
20 At nangagbalik ang mga pastor, na niluluwalhati at pinupuri ang Dios dahil sa lahat ng mga bagay na kanilang nangarinig at nangakita, ayon sa sinabi sa kanila.
21 At nang makaraan ang walong araw upang tuliin siya, ay tinawag na JESUS ang kaniyang pangalan, na siyang itinawag ng anghel bago siya ipinaglihi sa tiyan.
22 At nang maganap na ang mga araw na kanilang paglilinis alinsunod sa kautusan ni Moises, ay kanilang dinala siya sa Jerusalem, upang iharap siya sa Panginoon

25 At narito, may isang lalake sa Jerusalem, na nagngangalang Simeon; at ang lalaking ito'y matuwid at masipag sa kabanalan, na nag-aantay ng kaaliwan ng Israel: at sumasa kaniya ang Espiritu Santo.
26 At ipinahayag sa kaniya ng Espiritu Santo, na di niya makikita ang kamatayan, hanggang sa makita muna niya ang Cristo ng Panginoon.
27 At siya'y napasa templo sa Espiritu: at nang ipasok sa templo ang sanggol na si Jesus ng kaniyang mga magulang, upang sa kaniya'y magawa nila ang nauukol alinsunod sa kaugalian ng kautusan,
28 Ay tinanggap nga niya siya sa kaniyang mga bisig, at pinuri ang Dios, at nagsabi,
29 Ngayo'y papanawin mo, Panginoon, ang iyong alipin, Ayon sa iyong salita, sa kapayapaan,
30 Sapagka't nakita ng aking mga mata ang iyong pagliligtas,
31 Na iyong inihanda sa unahan ng mukha ng lahat ng mga tao;
32 Isang ilaw upang ipahayag sa mga Gentil, At ang kaluwalhatian ng iyong bayang Israel.
33 At ang kaniyang ama at ang kaniyang ina ay nagsisipanggilalas sa mga bagay na sinasabi tungkol sa kaniya;

39 At nang maganap na nila ang lahat ng mga bagay na alinsunod sa kautusan ng Panginoon, ay nangagbalik sila sa Galilea, sa kanilang sariling bayang Nazaret.
40 At lumalaki ang bata, at lumalakas, at napupuspos ng karunungan: at sumasa kaniya ang biyaya ng Dios.
41 At nagsisiparoon taon-taon ang kaniyang mga magulang sa Jerusalem sa kapistahan ng paskua.
42 At nang siya'y may labindalawang taon na, ay nagsiahon sila ayon sa kaugalian ng kapistahan;
43 At nang kanilang maganap na ang mga araw, sa pagbalik nila, ay naiwan ang batang si Jesus sa Jerusalem; at di nalalaman ng kaniyang mga magulang;
44 Nguni't sa pagaakala nilang siya'y nasa kasamahan, ay nagsiyaon sila nang isang araw na paglalakbay; at hinahanap nila siya sa mga kamaganak at mga kakilala;
45 At nang di nila siya matagpuan, ay nagsipagbalik sila sa Jerusalem, na hinahanap siya.
46 At nangyari, na nang makaraan ang tatlong araw, ay nangatagpuan nila siya sa templo, na nakaupo sa gitna ng mga guro, na sila'y pinakikinggan, at sila'y tinatanong:
47 At ang lahat ng sa kaniya'y nangakakarinig ay nagsisipanggilalas sa kaniyang katalinuhan at sa kaniyang mga sagot.
48 At nang siya'y mangakita nila, ay nangagtaka sila; at sinabi sa kaniya ng kaniyang ina, Anak, bakit ginawa mo sa amin ang ganyan? narito, ang iyong ama at ako na hinahanap kang may hapis.
49 At sinabi niya sa kanila, Bakit ninyo ako hinahanap? di baga talastas ninyo na dapat akong maglumagak sa bahay ng aking Ama.
50 At di nila naunawa ang pananalitang sa kanila'y sinabi.
51 At lumusong siyang kasama nila, at napasa Nazaret; at napasakop sa kanila: at iniingatan ng kaniyang ina sa kaniyang puso ang lahat ng mga pananalitang ito.
52 At lumalaki si Jesus sa karunungan at sa pangangatawan, at sa pagbibigay lugod sa Dios at sa mga tao.

Naşterea lui Isus Hristos
2 În vremea aceea, a ieşit o poruncă de la Cezar August să se înscrie toată lumea. 2 Înscrierea aceasta(A) s-a făcut întâia dată pe când era dregător în Siria Quirinius. 3 Toţi se duceau să se înscrie, fiecare în cetatea lui. 4 Iosif s-a suit şi el din Galileea, din cetatea Nazaret, ca să se ducă în Iudeea, în cetatea(B) lui David, numită Betleem, pentru că(C) era din casa şi din seminţia lui David, 5 să se înscrie împreună cu Maria, logodnica(D) lui, care era însărcinată. 6 Pe când erau ei acolo, s-a împlinit vremea când trebuia să nască Maria. 7 Şi a(E) născut pe Fiul ei cel întâi născut, L-a înfăşat în scutece şi L-a culcat într-o iesle, pentru că în casa de poposire nu era loc pentru ei.
Păstorii din Betleem
8 În ţinutul acela, erau nişte păstori care stăteau afară, în câmp, şi făceau de strajă noaptea împrejurul turmei lor. 9 Şi iată că un înger al Domnului s-a înfăţişat înaintea lor, şi slava Domnului a strălucit împrejurul lor. Ei(F) s-au înfricoşat foarte tare. 10 Dar îngerul le-a zis: „Nu vă temeţi, căci vă aduc o veste bună, care va fi o mare bucurie pentru(G) tot norodul: 11 astăzi(H), în cetatea lui David, vi s-a născut un Mântuitor(I), care(J) este Hristos, Domnul. 12 Iată semnul după care-L veţi cunoaşte: veţi găsi un Prunc înfăşat în scutece şi culcat într-o iesle.” 13 Şi(K) deodată, împreună cu îngerul s-a unit o mulţime de oaste cerească, lăudând pe Dumnezeu şi zicând: 14 „Slavă(L) lui Dumnezeu în locurile preaînalte şi pace(M) pe pământ între oamenii plăcuţi(N) Lui”. 15 După ce au plecat îngerii de la ei, ca să se întoarcă în cer, păstorii au zis unii către alţii: „Haidem să mergem până la Betleem şi să vedem ce ni s-a spus şi ce ne-a făcut cunoscut Domnul”. 16 S-au dus în grabă şi au găsit pe Maria, pe Iosif şi Pruncul culcat în iesle. 17 După ce L-au văzut, au istorisit ce li se spusese despre Prunc. 18 Toţi cei ce i-au auzit s-au mirat de cele ce le spuneau păstorii. 19 Maria(O) păstra toate cuvintele acelea şi se gândea la ele în inima ei. 20 Şi păstorii s-au întors, slăvind şi lăudând pe Dumnezeu pentru toate cele ce auziseră şi văzuseră şi care erau întocmai cum li se spusese.
Isus adus în Templu
21 Când(P) a venit ziua a opta, în care trebuia tăiat împrejur Pruncul, I-au pus numele ISUS(Q), nume care fusese spus de înger înainte ca să fi fost El zămislit în pântece. 22 Şi, când s-au împlinit zilele(R) pentru curăţirea lor, după Legea lui Moise, Iosif şi Maria au adus Pruncul la Ierusalim, ca să-L înfăţişeze înaintea Domnului, 23 după cum este scris în Legea Domnului: „Orice(S) întâi născut de parte bărbătească va fi închinat Domnului”, 24 şi ca să aducă jertfă: o pereche de turturele sau doi pui de porumbei, după cum(T) este poruncit în Legea Domnului.
Cântarea lui Simeon
25 Şi iată că în Ierusalim era un om numit Simeon. Omul acesta ducea o viaţă sfântă şi era cu frica lui Dumnezeu. El aştepta(U) mângâierea lui Israel, şi Duhul Sfânt era peste el. 26 Duhul Sfânt îl înştiinţase că nu va muri înainte ca să vadă(V) pe Hristosul Domnului. 27 El a venit în Templu mânat de(W) Duhul. Şi, când au adus părinţii înăuntru pe Pruncul Isus, ca să împlinească cu privire la El ce poruncea Legea, 28 Simeon L-a luat în braţe, a binecuvântat pe Dumnezeu şi a zis: 29 „Acum(X), sloboade în pace pe robul Tău, Stăpâne, după cuvântul Tău. 30 Căci au văzut(Y) ochii mei mântuirea Ta, 31 pe care ai pregătit-o să fie, înaintea tuturor popoarelor, 32 lumina(Z) care să lumineze neamurile şi slava poporului Tău Israel.” 33 Tatăl şi mama Lui se mirau de lucrurile care se spuneau despre El. 34 Simeon i-a binecuvântat şi a zis Mariei, mama Lui: „Iată, Copilul acesta este rânduit spre prăbuşirea(AA) şi ridicarea multora în Israel, şi să fie un semn(AB), care va stârni împotrivire. 35 Chiar(AC) sufletul tău va fi străpuns de o sabie, ca să se descopere gândurile multor inimi.” 36 Mai era acolo şi o prorociţă, Ana, fata lui Fanuel, din seminţia lui Aşer. Ea era foarte înaintată în vârstă şi trăise cu bărbatul ei şapte ani după fecioria ei. 37 Rămasă văduvă şi fiind în vârstă de optzeci şi patru de ani, Ana nu se depărta de Templu şi zi(AD) şi noapte slujea lui Dumnezeu cu post şi cu rugăciuni. 38 A venit şi ea în acelaşi ceas şi a început să laude pe Dumnezeu şi să vorbească despre Isus tuturor celor ce aşteptau(AE) mântuirea Ierusalimului.
Întoarcerea la Nazaret
39 După ce au împlinit tot ce poruncea Legea Domnului, Iosif şi Maria s-au întors în Galileea, în cetatea lor Nazaret. 40 Iar(AF) Pruncul creştea şi se întărea; era plin de înţelepciune, şi harul lui Dumnezeu era peste El.
Isus în Templu la vârsta de doisprezece ani
41 Părinţii lui Isus se duceau la Ierusalim în(AG) fiecare an, la Praznicul Paştelor. 42 Când a fost El de doisprezece ani, s-au suit la Ierusalim, după obiceiul Praznicului. 43 Apoi, după ce au trecut zilele Praznicului, pe când se întorceau acasă, băiatul Isus a rămas în Ierusalim. Părinţii Lui n-au băgat de seamă lucrul acesta. 44 Au crezut că este cu tovarăşii lor de călătorie şi au mers cale de o zi şi L-au căutat printre rudele şi cunoscuţii lor. 45 Dar nu L-au găsit şi s-au întors la Ierusalim să-L caute. 46 După trei zile, L-au găsit în Templu, şezând în mijlocul învăţătorilor, ascultându-i şi punându-le întrebări. 47 Toţi care-L auzeau rămâneau uimiţi(AH) de priceperea şi răspunsurile Lui. 48 Când L-au văzut părinţii Lui, au rămas înmărmuriţi; şi mama Lui I-a zis: „Fiule, pentru ce Te-ai purtat aşa cu noi? Iată că tatăl Tău şi eu Te-am căutat cu îngrijorare.” 49 El le-a zis: „De ce M-aţi căutat? Oare nu ştiaţi că trebuie să fiu în(AI) casa Tatălui Meu?” 50 Dar ei(AJ) n-au înţeles spusele Lui. 51 Apoi, S-a pogorât împreună cu ei, a venit la Nazaret şi le era supus. Mamă-Sa păstra(AK) toate cuvintele acestea în inima ei. 52 Şi Isus creştea(AL) în înţelepciune, în statură şi era tot mai plăcut înaintea lui Dumnezeu şi înaintea oamenilor.

2 In those days Caesar Augustus(A) issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world.(B) 2 (This was the first census that took place while[a] Quirinius was governor of Syria.)(C) 3 And everyone went to their own town to register.
4 So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem(D) the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. 5 He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him(E) and was expecting a child. 6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.
8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel(F) of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid.(G) I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior(H) has been born to you; he is the Messiah,(I) the Lord.(J) 12 This will be a sign(K) to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace(L) to those on whom his favor rests.”
15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”
16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger.(M) 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.(N) 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God(O) for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.
21 On the eighth day, when it was time to circumcise the child,(P) he was named Jesus, the name the angel had given him before he was conceived.(Q)
Jesus Presented in the Temple
22 When the time came for the purification rites required by the Law of Moses,(R) Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord 23 (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, “Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lord”[b]),(S) 24 and to offer a sacrifice in keeping with what is said in the Law of the Lord: “a pair of doves or two young pigeons.”[c](T)
25 Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout.(U) He was waiting for the consolation of Israel,(V) and the Holy Spirit was on him. 26 It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Messiah. 27 Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required,(W) 28 Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying:
29 “Sovereign Lord, as you have promised,(X)
you may now dismiss[d] your servant in peace.(Y)
30 For my eyes have seen your salvation,(Z)
31 which you have prepared in the sight of all nations:
32 a light for revelation to the Gentiles,
and the glory of your people Israel.”(AA)
33 The child’s father and mother marveled at what was said about him. 34 Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother:(AB) “This child is destined to cause the falling(AC) and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, 35 so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too.”
36 There was also a prophet,(AD) Anna, the daughter of Penuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old; she had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, 37 and then was a widow until she was eighty-four.[e](AE) She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying.(AF) 38 Coming up to them at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem.(AG)
39 When Joseph and Mary had done everything required by the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee to their own town of Nazareth.(AH) 40 And the child grew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was on him.(AI)
The Boy Jesus at the Temple
41 Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the Festival of the Passover.(AJ) 42 When he was twelve years old, they went up to the festival, according to the custom. 43 After the festival was over, while his parents were returning home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but they were unaware of it. 44 Thinking he was in their company, they traveled on for a day. Then they began looking for him among their relatives and friends. 45 When they did not find him, they went back to Jerusalem to look for him. 46 After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. 47 Everyone who heard him was amazed(AK) at his understanding and his answers. 48 When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother(AL) said to him, “Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father(AM) and I have been anxiously searching for you.”
49 “Why were you searching for me?” he asked. “Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?”[f](AN) 50 But they did not understand what he was saying to them.(AO)
51 Then he went down to Nazareth with them(AP) and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart.(AQ) 52 And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.(AR)

21 And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called Jesus, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb.
22 And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord;

36 And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity;
37 And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.
38 And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.
39 And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth.
40 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.
41 Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover.
42 And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast.
43 And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it.
44 But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance.
45 And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him.
46 And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.
47 And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.
48 And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.
49 And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?
50 And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.
51 And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.
52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.
