14 Bu hefyd, pan ddaeth efe i dŷ un o benaethiaid y Phariseaid ar y Saboth, i fwyta bara, iddynt hwythau ei wylied ef. Ac wele, yr oedd ger ei fron ef ryw ddyn yn glaf o’r dropsi. A’r Iesu gan ateb a lefarodd wrth y cyfreithwyr a’r Phariseaid, gan ddywedyd, Ai rhydd iacháu ar y Saboth? A thewi a wnaethant. Ac efe a’i cymerodd ato, ac a’i hiachaodd ef, ac a’i gollyngodd ymaith; Ac a atebodd iddynt hwythau, ac a ddywedodd, Asyn neu ych pa un ohonoch a syrth i bwll, ac yn ebrwydd nis tyn ef allan ar y dydd Saboth? Ac ni allent roi ateb yn ei erbyn ef am y pethau hyn.

Ac efe a ddywedodd wrth y gwahoddedigion ddameg, pan ystyriodd fel yr oeddynt yn dewis yr eisteddleoedd uchaf; gan ddywedyd wrthynt, Pan y’th wahodder gan neb i neithior, nac eistedd yn y lle uchaf, rhag bod un anrhydeddusach na thi wedi ei wahodd ganddo; Ac i hwn a’th wahoddodd di ac yntau ddyfod, a dywedyd wrthyt, Dyro le i hwn; ac yna dechrau ohonot ti trwy gywilydd gymryd y lle isaf. 10 Eithr pan y’th wahodder, dos ac eistedd yn y lle isaf; fel pan ddelo’r hwn a’th wahoddodd di, y gallo efe ddywedyd wrthyt, Y cyfaill, eistedd yn uwch i fyny: yna y bydd i ti glod yng ngŵydd y rhai a eisteddant gyda thi ar y bwrdd. 11 Canys pob un a’r a’i dyrchafo ei hun, a ostyngir; a’r hwn sydd yn ei ostwng ei hun, a ddyrchefir.

12 Ac efe a ddywedodd hefyd wrth yr hwn a’i gwahoddasai ef, Pan wnelych ginio neu swper, na alw dy gyfeillion, na’th frodyr, na’th geraint, na’th gymdogion goludog; rhag iddynt hwythau eilchwyl dy wahodd dithau, a gwneuthur taledigaeth i ti. 13 Eithr pan wnelych wledd, galw’r tlodion, yr efryddion, y cloffion, y deillion: 14 A dedwydd fyddi; am nad oes ganddynt ddim i dalu i ti: canys fe a delir i ti yn atgyfodiad y rhai cyfiawn.

15 A phan glywodd rhyw un o’r rhai oedd yn eistedd ar y bwrdd y pethau hyn, efe a ddywedodd wrtho, Gwyn ei fyd y neb a fwytao fara yn nheyrnas Dduw. 16 Ac yntau a ddywedodd wrtho, Rhyw ŵr a wnaeth swper mawr, ac a wahoddodd lawer: 17 Ac a ddanfonodd ei was bryd swper, i ddywedyd wrth y rhai a wahoddasid, Deuwch; canys weithian y mae pob peth yn barod. 18 A hwy oll a ddechreuasant yn unfryd ymesgusodi. Y cyntaf a ddywedodd wrtho, Mi a brynais dyddyn, ac y mae’n rhaid i mi fyned a’i weled: atolwg i ti, cymer fi yn esgusodol. 19 Ac arall a ddywedodd, Mi a brynais bum iau o ychen, ac yr ydwyf yn myned i’w profi hwynt: atolwg i ti, cymer fi yn esgusodol. 20 Ac arall a ddywedodd, Mi a briodais wraig; ac am hynny nis gallaf fi ddyfod. 21 A’r gwas hwnnw, pan ddaeth adref, a fynegodd y pethau hyn i’w arglwydd. Yna gŵr y tŷ, wedi digio, a ddywedodd wrth ei was, Dos allan ar frys i heolydd ac ystrydoedd y ddinas, a dwg i mewn yma y tlodion, a’r anafus, a’r cloffion, a’r deillion. 22 A’r gwas a ddywedodd, Arglwydd, gwnaethpwyd fel y gorchmynnaist; ac eto y mae lle. 23 A’r arglwydd a ddywedodd wrth y gwas, Dos allan i’r priffyrdd a’r caeau, a chymell hwynt i ddyfod i mewn, fel y llanwer fy nhŷ. 24 Canys yr wyf yn dywedyd i chwi, na chaiff yr un o’r gwŷr hynny a wahoddwyd, brofi o’m swper i.

25 A llawer o bobl a gydgerddodd ag ef: ac efe a droes, ac a ddywedodd wrthynt, 26 Os daw neb ataf fi, ac ni chasao ei dad, a’i fam, a’i wraig, a’i blant, a’i frodyr, a’i chwiorydd, ie, a’i einioes ei hun hefyd, ni all efe fod yn ddisgybl i mi. 27 A phwy bynnag ni ddyco ei groes, a dyfod ar fy ôl i, ni all efe fod yn ddisgybl i mi.

28 Canys pwy ohonoch chwi â’i fryd ar adeiladu tŵr, nid eistedd yn gyntaf, a bwrw’r draul, a oes ganddo a’i gorffenno? 29 Rhag wedi iddo osod y sail, ac heb allu ei orffen, ddechrau o bawb a’i gwelant ei watwar ef, 30 Gan ddywedyd, Y dyn hwn a ddechreuodd adeiladu, ac ni allodd ei orffen. 31 Neu pa frenin yn myned i ryfel yn erbyn brenin arall, nid eistedd yn gyntaf, ac ymgynghori a all efe â deng mil gyfarfod â’r hwn sydd yn dyfod yn ei erbyn ef ag ugain mil? 32 Ac os amgen, tra fyddo efe ymhell oddi wrtho, efe a enfyn genadwri, ac a ddeisyf amodau heddwch. 33 Felly hefyd, pob un ohonoch chwithau nid ymwrthodo â chymaint oll ag a feddo, ni all fod yn ddisgybl i mi.

34 Da yw’r halen: eithr o bydd yr halen yn ddiflas, â pha beth yr helltir ef? 35 Nid yw efe gymwys nac i’r tir, nac i’r domen; ond ei fwrw ef allan y maent. Y neb sydd ganddo glustiau i wrando, gwrandawed.

Jesus at a Pharisee’s House(A)

14 One Sabbath, when Jesus went to eat in the house of a prominent Pharisee,(B) he was being carefully watched.(C) There in front of him was a man suffering from abnormal swelling of his body. Jesus asked the Pharisees and experts in the law,(D) “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath or not?”(E) But they remained silent. So taking hold of the man, he healed him and sent him on his way.

Then he asked them, “If one of you has a child[a] or an ox that falls into a well on the Sabbath day, will you not immediately pull it out?”(F) And they had nothing to say.

When he noticed how the guests picked the places of honor at the table,(G) he told them this parable: “When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for a person more distinguished than you may have been invited. If so, the host who invited both of you will come and say to you, ‘Give this person your seat.’ Then, humiliated, you will have to take the least important place. 10 But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you, ‘Friend, move up to a better place.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all the other guests. 11 For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”(H)

12 Then Jesus said to his host, “When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or sisters, your relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. 13 But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind,(I) 14 and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”(J)

The Parable of the Great Banquet(K)

15 When one of those at the table with him heard this, he said to Jesus, “Blessed is the one who will eat at the feast(L) in the kingdom of God.”(M)

16 Jesus replied: “A certain man was preparing a great banquet and invited many guests. 17 At the time of the banquet he sent his servant to tell those who had been invited, ‘Come, for everything is now ready.’

18 “But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said, ‘I have just bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please excuse me.’

19 “Another said, ‘I have just bought five yoke of oxen, and I’m on my way to try them out. Please excuse me.’

20 “Still another said, ‘I just got married, so I can’t come.’

21 “The servant came back and reported this to his master. Then the owner of the house became angry and ordered his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame.’(N)

22 “‘Sir,’ the servant said, ‘what you ordered has been done, but there is still room.’

23 “Then the master told his servant, ‘Go out to the roads and country lanes and compel them to come in, so that my house will be full. 24 I tell you, not one of those who were invited will get a taste of my banquet.’”(O)

The Cost of Being a Disciple

25 Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said: 26 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple.(P) 27 And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.(Q)

28 “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? 29 For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, 30 saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’

31 “Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Won’t he first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand? 32 If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace. 33 In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples.(R)

34 “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?(S) 35 It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile; it is thrown out.(T)

“Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”(U)
