Ngụ Ngôn Về Người Quản Gia Bất Lương
16 Đức Giê-su cũng phán dạy các môn đệ: “Một người giàu kia có anh quản gia bị tố cáo đã phung phí tài sản của chủ. 2 Chủ gọi anh đến bảo: ‘Anh làm gì mà ta nghe báo cáo về anh như thế? Hãy khai trình sổ sách quản lý của anh, vì anh không còn được làm quản gia nữa!’
3 Quản gia tự nhủ: ‘Chủ cách chức ta thì ta phải[a] làm gì đây? Cuốc đất thì không nổi, ăn xin thì hổ nhục. 4 Ta biết ta phải làm gì để khi ta bị đuổi thì có người tiếp đón ta về nhà.’
5 Quản gia bèn gọi tất cả con nợ của chủ đến. Anh hỏi người thứ nhất: ‘Ông nợ chủ tôi bao nhiêu?’ Đáp:
6 ‘Một trăm thùng[b] dầu ô-liu.’ Quản gia bảo: ‘Lấy tờ giấy nợ ngồi xuống đó viết ngay năm chục thùng!’
7 Rồi anh hỏi người khác: ‘Còn ông nợ bao nhiêu?’ Đáp: ‘Một trăm giạ[c] lúa.’ Quản gia bảo: ‘Lấy tờ giấy nợ viết tám chục!’
8 Chủ bèn khen quản gia bất chính ấy đã hành động tinh khôn; vì con cái đời này xảo quyệt hơn con cái ánh sáng trong việc xử thế. 9 Ta bảo các con, hãy dùng của cải bất chính mà kết bạn để khi của ấy cạn đi, họ sẽ tiếp rước các con vào nhà vĩnh cửu.
10 Ai trung tín trong việc nhỏ cũng trung tín trong việc lớn. Ai bất chính trong việc nhỏ cũng bất chính trong việc lớn. 11 Vậy, nếu các con không trung tín[d] về của cải bất chính thì ai dám giao của cải thật cho các con? 12 Nếu các con không trung tín về của cải của người khác, thì ai dám giao cho các con của cải thuộc phần các con?[e]
13 Không một đầy tớ nào có thể phục vụ hai chủ, vì sẽ ghét chủ này, thương chủ kia, hoặc trọng chủ này mà khinh chủ kia. Các con không thể phục vụ Đức Chúa Trời lẫn tiền tài.”[f]
14 Các người Pha-ri-si là những kẻ ham tiền nghe mọi lời ấy thì chê cười Ngài. 15 Chúa bảo họ: “Các ông là những người làm ra vẻ công chính trước mặt người ta, nhưng Đức Chúa Trời biết lòng các ông; vì điều người ta đề cao lại là điều ghê tởm trước mặt Đức Chúa Trời.
16 Kinh Luật và Kinh Tiên Tri được truyền giảng đến đời Giăng. Từ ngày đó, Nước Đức Chúa Trời được truyền giảng và ai cũng cố sức chen lấn mà vào. 17 Nhưng trời đất qua đi còn dễ hơn là xóa bỏ một nét[g] trong Kinh Luật.
18 Ai ly dị vợ và cưới vợ khác là phạm tội ngoại tình. Ai cưới đàn bà ly hôn cũng phạm tội ngoại tình.”
Người Giàu Và La-xa-rơ
19 “Có một người giàu kia thường ăn mặc gấm vóc lụa là,[h] hằng ngày tiệc tùng xa xỉ. 20 Cũng có một người nghèo khổ tên La-xa-rơ nằm trước cổng nhà người giàu ấy, mình đầy ghẻ lở. 21 La-xa-rơ mơ ước được hưởng các mảnh vụn từ bàn người giàu rớt xuống, nhưng chỉ có chó đến liếm ghẻ trên người.
22 Người nghèo chết, các thiên sứ đem đặt vào lòng Áp-ra-ham. Người giàu cũng chết và được chôn cất. 23 Bị khổ hình nơi Âm Phủ, người giàu ngước mắt nhìn lên, thấy Áp-ra-ham ở đàng xa, có La-xa-rơ đang ở trong lòng. 24 Người giàu kêu xin: ‘Tổ phụ Áp-ra-ham ơi, xin thương xót con, sai La-xa-rơ nhúng đầu ngón tay vào nước, thấm mát lưỡi con, vì con bị đau đớn quá trong lửa này!’
25 Nhưng Áp-ra-ham đáp: ‘Con ơi, hãy nhớ khi còn sống con đã hưởng những điều sung sướng; còn La-xa-rơ phải chịu những điều khổ cực; nhưng bây giờ La-xa-rơ được an ủi, còn con chịu đau đớn. 26 Hơn nữa, giữa chúng ta và con, có một vực thẳm bao la, hai bên cách biệt hẳn, nên ai muốn từ đây qua đó, hoặc từ đó qua đây đều không được.’
27 Người giàu van xin: ‘Tổ phụ ơi, thế thì xin tổ sai La-xa-rơ đến nhà cha con 28 —vì con còn năm anh em—để người làm chứng cho họ, kẻo họ cũng bị xuống nơi khổ hình này!’
29 Nhưng Áp-ra-ham đáp: ‘Chúng đã có Môi-se và các tiên tri của Chúa, hãy để chúng nghe lời họ!’
30 Người giàu cố nài: ‘Tổ phụ ơi, không phải vậy đâu! Nhưng nếu có người chết sống lại đến nói thì họ mới ăn năn!’
31 Áp-ra-ham đáp: ‘Nếu chúng không chịu nghe Môi-se và các tiên tri của Chúa, thì dù có người chết sống lại cũng chẳng thuyết phục chúng được đâu!’ ”

16 Jésus dit aussi à ses disciples: Un homme riche avait un économe, qui lui fut dénoncé comme dissipant ses biens.
2 Il l'appela, et lui dit: Qu'est-ce que j'entends dire de toi? Rends compte de ton administration, car tu ne pourras plus administrer mes biens.
3 L'économe dit en lui-même: Que ferai-je, puisque mon maître m'ôte l'administration de ses biens? Travailler à la terre? je ne le puis. Mendier? j'en ai honte.
4 Je sais ce que je ferai, pour qu'il y ait des gens qui me reçoivent dans leurs maisons quand je serai destitué de mon emploi.
5 Et, faisant venir chacun des débiteurs de son maître, il dit au premier: Combien dois-tu à mon maître?
6 Cent mesures d'huile, répondit-il. Et il lui dit: Prends ton billet, assieds-toi vite, et écris cinquante.
7 Il dit ensuite à un autre: Et toi, combien dois-tu? Cent mesures de blé, répondit-il. Et il lui dit: Prends ton billet, et écris quatre-vingts.
8 Le maître loua l'économe infidèle de ce qu'il avait agi prudemment. Car les enfants de ce siècle sont plus prudents à l'égard de leurs semblables que ne le sont les enfants de lumière.
9 Et moi, je vous dis: Faites-vous des amis avec les richesses injustes, pour qu'ils vous reçoivent dans les tabernacles éternels, quand elles viendront à vous manquer.
10 Celui qui est fidèle dans les moindres choses l'est aussi dans les grandes, et celui qui est injuste dans les moindres choses l'est aussi dans les grandes.
11 Si donc vous n'avez pas été fidèle dans les richesses injustes, qui vous confiera les véritables?
12 Et si vous n'avez pas été fidèles dans ce qui est à autrui, qui vous donnera ce qui est à vous?
13 Nul serviteur ne peut servir deux maîtres. Car, ou il haïra l'un et aimera l'autre; ou il s'attachera à l'un et méprisera l'autre. Vous ne pouvez servir Dieu et Mamon.
14 Les pharisiens, qui étaient avares, écoutaient aussi tout cela, et ils se moquaient de lui.
15 Jésus leur dit: Vous, vous cherchez à paraître justes devant les hommes, mais Dieu connaît vos coeurs; car ce qui est élevé parmi les hommes est une abomination devant Dieu.
16 La loi et les prophètes ont subsisté jusqu'à Jean; depuis lors, le royaume de Dieu est annoncé, et chacun use de violence pour y entrer.
17 Il est plus facile que le ciel et la terre passent, qu'il ne l'est qu'un seul trait de lettre de la loi vienne à tomber.
18 Quiconque répudie sa femme et en épouse une autre commet un adultère, et quiconque épouse une femme répudiée par son mari commet un adultère.
19 Il y avait un homme riche, qui était vêtu de pourpre et de fin lin, et qui chaque jour menait joyeuse et brillante vie.
20 Un pauvre, nommé Lazare, était couché à sa porte, couvert d'ulcères,
21 et désireux de se rassasier des miettes qui tombaient de la table du riche; et même les chiens venaient encore lécher ses ulcères.
22 Le pauvre mourut, et il fut porté par les anges dans le sein d'Abraham. Le riche mourut aussi, et il fut enseveli.
23 Dans le séjour des morts, il leva les yeux; et, tandis qu'il était en proie aux tourments, il vit de loin Abraham, et Lazare dans son sein.
24 Il s'écria: Père Abraham, aie pitié de moi, et envoie Lazare, pour qu'il trempe le bout de son doigt dans l'eau et me rafraîchisse la langue; car je souffre cruellement dans cette flamme.
25 Abraham répondit: Mon enfant, souviens-toi que tu as reçu tes biens pendant ta vie, et que Lazare a eu les maux pendant la sienne; maintenant il est ici consolé, et toi, tu souffres.
26 D'ailleurs, il y a entre nous et vous un grand abîme, afin que ceux qui voudraient passer d'ici vers vous, ou de là vers nous, ne puissent le faire.
27 Le riche dit: Je te prie donc, père Abraham, d'envoyer Lazare dans la maison de mon père; car j'ai cinq frères.
28 C'est pour qu'il leur atteste ces choses, afin qu'ils ne viennent pas aussi dans ce lieu de tourments.
29 Abraham répondit: Ils ont Moïse et les prophètes; qu'ils les écoutent.
30 Et il dit: Non, père Abraham, mais si quelqu'un des morts va vers eux, ils se repentiront.
31 Et Abraham lui dit: S'ils n'écoutent pas Moïse et les prophètes, ils ne se laisseront pas persuader quand même quelqu'un des morts ressusciterait.

The Parable of the Shrewd Manager
16 Jesus told his disciples: “There was a rich man whose manager was accused of wasting his possessions.(A) 2 So he called him in and asked him, ‘What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your management, because you cannot be manager any longer.’
3 “The manager said to himself, ‘What shall I do now? My master is taking away my job. I’m not strong enough to dig, and I’m ashamed to beg— 4 I know what I’ll do so that, when I lose my job here, people will welcome me into their houses.’
5 “So he called in each one of his master’s debtors. He asked the first, ‘How much do you owe my master?’
6 “‘Nine hundred gallons[a] of olive oil,’ he replied.
“The manager told him, ‘Take your bill, sit down quickly, and make it four hundred and fifty.’
7 “Then he asked the second, ‘And how much do you owe?’
“‘A thousand bushels[b] of wheat,’ he replied.
“He told him, ‘Take your bill and make it eight hundred.’
8 “The master commended the dishonest manager because he had acted shrewdly. For the people of this world(B) are more shrewd(C) in dealing with their own kind than are the people of the light.(D) 9 I tell you, use worldly wealth(E) to gain friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings.(F)
10 “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much,(G) and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. 11 So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth,(H) who will trust you with true riches? 12 And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else’s property, who will give you property of your own?
13 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”(I)
14 The Pharisees, who loved money,(J) heard all this and were sneering at Jesus.(K) 15 He said to them, “You are the ones who justify yourselves(L) in the eyes of others, but God knows your hearts.(M) What people value highly is detestable in God’s sight.

16 “The Law and the Prophets were proclaimed until John.(N) Since that time, the good news of the kingdom of God is being preached,(O) and everyone is forcing their way into it. 17 It is easier for heaven and earth to disappear than for the least stroke of a pen to drop out of the Law.(P)
18 “Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery, and the man who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.(Q)
The Rich Man and Lazarus
19 “There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day.(R) 20 At his gate was laid a beggar(S) named Lazarus, covered with sores 21 and longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table.(T) Even the dogs came and licked his sores.
22 “The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. 24 So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham,(U) have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’(V)
25 “But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things,(W) but now he is comforted here and you are in agony.(X) 26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’
27 “He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, 28 for I have five brothers. Let him warn them,(Y) so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’
29 “Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses(Z) and the Prophets;(AA) let them listen to them.’
30 “‘No, father Abraham,’(AB) he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’
31 “He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’”
