De inwijdingsceremonie

8 De Here zei tegen Mozes: 2 ‘Breng Aäron en zijn zonen naar de ingang van de tabernakel, samen met hun kleding, de zalfolie, de stier van het zondoffer, de twee rammen en de mand met ongezuurde broden. 3 Laten alle Israëlieten zich daar verzamelen.’

4 Daarop werden alle Israëlieten bijeengeroepen bij de ingang van de tabernakel. 5 Mozes zei tegen hen: ‘Wat ik nu ga doen, heeft de Here mij opgedragen.’ 6 Toen liet hij Aäron en zijn zonen naar voren komen en waste hen met water. 7 Hij kleedde Aäron met het onderkleed, de ceintuur en de bovenmantel en hing het priesterkleed met de prachtig geweven gordel om zijn schouders. 8 Daarna deed hij hem de borsttas om en plaatste de orakelstenen, de Urim en de Tummim, in de buidel. 9 Op Aärons hoofd zette hij de heilige tulband met de gouden plaat er voorop, precies zoals de Here het hem had opgedragen. 10 Toen nam Mozes de zalfolie en sprenkelde ervan op de tabernakel en op elk voorwerp dat zich erin bevond, zodat het werd geheiligd. 11 Het altaar besprenkelde hij zevenmaal en ook de onderdelen van het altaar en het wasvat met het voetstuk werden besprenkeld en daardoor geheiligd. 12 Toen goot hij de zalfolie over het hoofd van Aäron om hem te heiligen, dat wil zeggen: af te zonderen en te wijden voor zijn taak. 13 Daarna hing Mozes de zonen van Aäron de mantels om met de gordels en de hoofddoeken, zoals de Here hem had opgedragen.

14 Toen nam hij de stier van het zondoffer en Aäron en zijn zonen legden hun handen op de kop van het dier. 15 Mozes slachtte de stier, streek een deel van het bloed met zijn vinger aan de vier horens van het altaar om het te heiligen en goot de rest van het bloed uit aan de voet van het altaar. Zo heiligde hij het altaar en deed verzoening daarover. 16 Hij nam al het vet dat de ingewanden bedekte, het aanhangsel van de lever, de beide nieren en hun vet en verbrandde dat alles op het altaar. 17 Het overblijfsel van de jonge stier, met de huid, het vlees en de mest werd buiten het kamp verbrand, zoals de Here het Mozes had opgedragen. 18,19 Daarna bracht Mozes de ram van het brandoffer en bood die de Here aan. Aäron en zijn zonen legden hun handen op de kop van het dier, waarna Mozes het slachtte en het bloed rondom tegen het altaar sprenkelde. 20 Vervolgens deelde hij de ram in vieren en verbrandde de stukken, de huid en het vet. 21 Toen waste hij de ingewanden en de achterpoten met water af en verbrandde deze op het altaar. Zo ging de hele ram in rook op als een aangenaam brandoffer voor de Here, precies volgens de aanwijzingen die de Here Mozes had gegeven. 22 Toen bood Mozes de Here de tweede ram aan, het inwijdingsoffer. Aäron en zijn zonen legden hun handen op zijn kop. 23 Mozes slachtte hem, nam een deel van het bloed en streek het aan Aärons rechter oorlel, aan de duim van zijn rechterhand en aan de grote teen van zijn rechtervoet. 24 Daarna streek hij wat bloed aan dezelfde lichaamsdelen van Aärons zonen. Het overgebleven bloed sprenkelde hij rondom tegen het altaar. 25,26 Toen nam hij het vet, de staart, het vet van de ingewanden, het aanhangsel van de lever, de beide nieren met hun vet en de rechterschenkel en legde daar bovenop een dunne ongezuurde koek, een geoliede broodkoek en een dunne koek, alles uit de mand die daar voor de Here was neergezet. 27 Dit alles werd aan Aäron en zijn zonen gegeven. Ze hieven het op en presenteerden het de Here, staande voor het altaar. 28 Mozes nam het daarna weer van hen over en verbrandde alles op het altaar, samen met het brandoffer als een aangenaam brandoffer voor de Here. 29 Nu nam Mozes de borst en bood hem de Here aan door hem voor het altaar op te heffen, dit was Mozesʼ deel van het inwijdingsoffer, precies zoals de Here hem had opgedragen. 30 Vervolgens nam hij iets van de zalfolie en van het bloed dat hij op het altaar had gesprenkeld en sprenkelde dat over Aäron en zijn kleren en over zijn zonen en hun kleren. Zo heiligde hij hen en hun kleding voor de dienst van de Here.

31 Toen zei Mozes tegen Aäron en zijn zonen: ‘Kook het vlees bij de ingang van de tabernakel en eet het op, samen met het brood dat in de wijdingsmand ligt, zoals ik jullie heb opgedragen. 32 Alles wat overblijft van het vlees of het brood, moet worden verbrand.’ 33 Daarna zei hij tegen hen dat zij het terrein van de tabernakel zeven dagen lang niet mochten verlaten. Na die tijd zou hun wijding zijn voltooid, want deze duurt zeven dagen. 34 Mozes zei nog eens dat alles wat hij die dag had gedaan en gezegd in opdracht van de Here was gebeurd en voortaan steeds zo moest gebeuren met het doel verzoening voor hen te bewerken. 35 En opnieuw waarschuwde hij Aäron en zijn zonen dat zij zeven dagen en nachten het terrein van de tabernakel niet mochten verlaten. ‘Als jullie hier weggaan,’ zei hij, ‘zullen jullie sterven, dat heeft de Here gezegd.’ 36 Aäron en zijn zonen deden alles wat de Here hun door Mozes had opgedragen.

The Ordination of Aaron and His Sons(A)

8 The Lord said to Moses, 2 “Bring Aaron and his sons,(B) their garments,(C) the anointing oil,(D) the bull for the sin offering,[a](E) the two rams(F) and the basket containing bread made without yeast,(G) 3 and gather the entire assembly(H) at the entrance to the tent of meeting.” 4 Moses did as the Lord commanded him, and the assembly gathered at the entrance to the tent of meeting.

5 Moses said to the assembly, “This is what the Lord has commanded to be done.(I)” 6 Then Moses brought Aaron and his sons forward and washed them with water.(J) 7 He put the tunic on Aaron, tied the sash around him, clothed him with the robe and put the ephod on him. He also fastened the ephod with a decorative waistband, which he tied around him.(K) 8 He placed the breastpiece(L) on him and put the Urim and Thummim(M) in the breastpiece. 9 Then he placed the turban(N) on Aaron’s head and set the gold plate, the sacred emblem,(O) on the front of it, as the Lord commanded Moses.(P)

10 Then Moses took the anointing oil(Q) and anointed(R) the tabernacle(S) and everything in it, and so consecrated them. 11 He sprinkled some of the oil on the altar seven times, anointing the altar and all its utensils and the basin with its stand, to consecrate them.(T) 12 He poured some of the anointing oil on Aaron’s head and anointed(U) him to consecrate him.(V) 13 Then he brought Aaron’s sons(W) forward, put tunics(X) on them, tied sashes around them and fastened caps on them, as the Lord commanded Moses.(Y)

14 He then presented the bull(Z) for the sin offering,(AA) and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on its head.(AB) 15 Moses slaughtered the bull and took some of the blood,(AC) and with his finger he put it on all the horns of the altar(AD) to purify the altar.(AE) He poured out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar. So he consecrated it to make atonement for it.(AF) 16 Moses also took all the fat around the internal organs, the long lobe of the liver, and both kidneys and their fat, and burned it on the altar. 17 But the bull with its hide and its flesh and its intestines(AG) he burned up outside the camp,(AH) as the Lord commanded Moses.

18 He then presented the ram(AI) for the burnt offering, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on its head. 19 Then Moses slaughtered the ram and splashed the blood against the sides of the altar. 20 He cut the ram into pieces and burned the head, the pieces and the fat.(AJ) 21 He washed the internal organs and the legs with water and burned the whole ram on the altar. It was a burnt offering, a pleasing aroma, a food offering presented to the Lord, as the Lord commanded Moses.

22 He then presented the other ram, the ram for the ordination,(AK) and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on its head.(AL) 23 Moses slaughtered the ram and took some of its blood and put it on the lobe of Aaron’s right ear, on the thumb of his right hand and on the big toe of his right foot.(AM) 24 Moses also brought Aaron’s sons forward and put some of the blood on the lobes of their right ears, on the thumbs of their right hands and on the big toes of their right feet. Then he splashed blood against the sides of the altar.(AN) 25 After that, he took the fat(AO), the fat tail, all the fat around the internal organs, the long lobe of the liver, both kidneys and their fat and the right thigh. 26 And from the basket of bread made without yeast, which was before the Lord, he took one thick loaf, one thick loaf with olive oil mixed in, and one thin loaf,(AP) and he put these on the fat portions and on the right thigh. 27 He put all these in the hands of Aaron and his sons, and they waved them before the Lord(AQ) as a wave offering. 28 Then Moses took them from their hands and burned them on the altar on top of the burnt offering as an ordination offering, a pleasing aroma, a food offering presented to the Lord. 29 Moses also took the breast, which was his share of the ordination ram,(AR) and waved it before the Lord as a wave offering, as the Lord commanded Moses.

30 Then Moses(AS) took some of the anointing oil and some of the blood from the altar and sprinkled them on Aaron and his garments(AT) and on his sons and their garments. So he consecrated(AU) Aaron and his garments and his sons and their garments.

31 Moses then said to Aaron and his sons, “Cook the meat at the entrance to the tent of meeting(AV) and eat it there with the bread from the basket of ordination offerings, as I was commanded: ‘Aaron and his sons are to eat it.’ 32 Then burn up the rest of the meat and the bread. 33 Do not leave the entrance to the tent of meeting for seven days, until the days of your ordination are completed, for your ordination will last seven days.(AW) 34 What has been done today was commanded by the Lord(AX) to make atonement for you. 35 You must stay at the entrance to the tent of meeting day and night for seven days and do what the Lord requires,(AY) so you will not die; for that is what I have been commanded.”

36 So Aaron and his sons did everything the Lord commanded through Moses.

4 And Moses did as the Lord commanded him; and the assembly was gathered together unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

5 And Moses said unto the congregation, This is the thing which the Lord commanded to be done.

6 And Moses brought Aaron and his sons, and washed them with water.

7 And he put upon him the coat, and girded him with the girdle, and clothed him with the robe, and put the ephod upon him, and he girded him with the curious girdle of the ephod, and bound it unto him therewith.

8 And he put the breastplate upon him: also he put in the breastplate the Urim and the Thummim.

9 And he put the mitre upon his head; also upon the mitre, even upon his forefront, did he put the golden plate, the holy crown; as the Lord commanded Moses.

10 And Moses took the anointing oil, and anointed the tabernacle and all that was therein, and sanctified them.

11 And he sprinkled thereof upon the altar seven times, and anointed the altar and all his vessels, both the laver and his foot, to sanctify them.

12 And he poured of the anointing oil upon Aaron's head, and anointed him, to sanctify him.

13 And Moses brought Aaron's sons, and put coats upon them, and girded them with girdles, and put bonnets upon them; as the Lord commanded Moses.

14 And he brought the bullock for the sin offering: and Aaron and his sons laid their hands upon the head of the bullock for the sin offering.

15 And he slew it; and Moses took the blood, and put it upon the horns of the altar round about with his finger, and purified the altar, and poured the blood at the bottom of the altar, and sanctified it, to make reconciliation upon it.

16 And he took all the fat that was upon the inwards, and the caul above the liver, and the two kidneys, and their fat, and Moses burned it upon the altar.

17 But the bullock, and his hide, his flesh, and his dung, he burnt with fire without the camp; as the Lord commanded Moses.

18 And he brought the ram for the burnt offering: and Aaron and his sons laid their hands upon the head of the ram.

19 And he killed it; and Moses sprinkled the blood upon the altar round about.

20 And he cut the ram into pieces; and Moses burnt the head, and the pieces, and the fat.

21 And he washed the inwards and the legs in water; and Moses burnt the whole ram upon the altar: it was a burnt sacrifice for a sweet savour, and an offering made by fire unto the Lord; as the Lord commanded Moses.

22 And he brought the other ram, the ram of consecration: and Aaron and his sons laid their hands upon the head of the ram.

23 And he slew it; and Moses took of the blood of it, and put it upon the tip of Aaron's right ear, and upon the thumb of his right hand, and upon the great toe of his right foot.

24 And he brought Aaron's sons, and Moses put of the blood upon the tip of their right ear, and upon the thumbs of their right hands, and upon the great toes of their right feet: and Moses sprinkled the blood upon the altar round about.

25 And he took the fat, and the rump, and all the fat that was upon the inwards, and the caul above the liver, and the two kidneys, and their fat, and the right shoulder:

26 And out of the basket of unleavened bread, that was before the Lord, he took one unleavened cake, and a cake of oiled bread, and one wafer, and put them on the fat, and upon the right shoulder:

27 And he put all upon Aaron's hands, and upon his sons' hands, and waved them for a wave offering before the Lord.

28 And Moses took them from off their hands, and burnt them on the altar upon the burnt offering: they were consecrations for a sweet savour: it is an offering made by fire unto the Lord.

29 And Moses took the breast, and waved it for a wave offering before the Lord: for of the ram of consecration it was Moses' part; as the Lord commanded Moses.

30 And Moses took of the anointing oil, and of the blood which was upon the altar, and sprinkled it upon Aaron, and upon his garments, and upon his sons, and upon his sons' garments with him; and sanctified Aaron, and his garments, and his sons, and his sons' garments with him.

31 And Moses said unto Aaron and to his sons, Boil the flesh at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and there eat it with the bread that is in the basket of consecrations, as I commanded, saying, Aaron and his sons shall eat it.

32 And that which remaineth of the flesh and of the bread shall ye burn with fire.

33 And ye shall not go out of the door of the tabernacle of the congregation in seven days, until the days of your consecration be at an end: for seven days shall he consecrate you.

34 As he hath done this day, so the Lord hath commanded to do, to make an atonement for you.

35 Therefore shall ye abide at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation day and night seven days, and keep the charge of the Lord, that ye die not: for so I am commanded.

36 So Aaron and his sons did all things which the Lord commanded by the hand of Moses.

5 And Moses said to the congregation, (D)“This is the thing that the Lord has commanded to be done.” 6 And Moses brought Aaron and his sons and washed them with water. 7 And he put (E)the coat on him and tied the sash around his waist and clothed him with the robe and put the ephod on him and tied the skillfully woven band of the ephod around him, binding it to him with the band.[a] 8 And he placed the breastpiece on him, and (F)in the breastpiece he put the Urim and the Thummim. 9 And he set (G)the turban on his head, and (H)on the turban, in front, he set the golden plate, the holy crown, as the Lord commanded Moses.

10 (I)Then Moses took the anointing oil and anointed the tabernacle and all that was in it, and consecrated them. 11 And he sprinkled some of it on the altar seven times, and anointed the altar and all its utensils and the basin and its stand, to consecrate them. 12 And (J)he poured some of the anointing oil on Aaron's head and anointed him to consecrate him. 13 And Moses brought Aaron's sons and clothed them with coats and tied sashes around their waists and bound caps on them, as the Lord commanded Moses.

This was an ordination offering with a pleasing aroma, a food offering to the Lord. 29 And Moses took the breast and waved it for a wave offering before the Lord. It was Moses' portion of the ram of ordination, as the Lord commanded Moses.

30 Then (T)Moses took some of the anointing oil and of the blood that was on the altar and sprinkled it on Aaron and his garments, and also on his sons and his sons' garments. So he consecrated Aaron and his garments, and his sons and his sons' garments with him.
