Grain Offerings.[a] 1 “When anyone brings a grain offering as a sacrifice to the Lord, it is to be an offering of fine flour. He shall pour oil upon it and put incense on it 2 and bring it to the sons of Aaron, the priests. He shall take a handful of the flour and the oil and all of the incense. The priest shall burn it on the altar as a memorial portion, a burnt offering, a pleasing fragrance to the Lord.[b] 3 The rest of the grain offering will be for Aaron and his sons, the most holy part[c] of the burnt offering to the Lord.
4 “When someone brings a cereal offering that has been baked in the oven, it is to be unleavened cakes made of fine flour mixed with oil or unleavened wafers sprinkled with oil. 5 If your cereal offering was prepared on the griddle, it is to be made of fine flour that has been mixed with oil. 6 You shall break it into pieces and pour oil on it. It is a cereal offering. 7 If the cereal offering was prepared in a pan, it is to be made of fine flour with oil. 8 You shall bring your cereal offering made of these things to the priest who will bring it to the altar. 9 Then the priest shall take the memorial portion from the cereal offering and burn it on the altar. It will be a burnt offering, a pleasing fragrance to the Lord. 10 The rest of the cereal offering will be for Aaron and his sons. It is the most holy part of the burnt offering to the Lord.
11 “None of the cereal offerings that you offer to the Lord will be leavened, for you are not to make burnt offerings of leaven or honey[d] to the Lord. 12 As to the offering of firstfruits, you may bring them to the Lord, but you are not to bring them to the altar as a pleasing fragrance. 13 You are to season all of your cereal offerings with salt. You shall not permit your cereal offerings to be offered without the salt of your covenant.[e] You shall bring salt with all of your offerings.
14 “If you offer a cereal offering of firstfruits to the Lord, you shall offer the cereal offering of firstfruits in the form of crushed grain from newly ripened heads of grain that have been parched with fire. 15 You shall pour oil on it, and place incense upon it. It is a cereal offering. 16 Then the priest shall burn a part of the grain and of the oil and all of the incense as the memorial portion of the offering. It is a burnt offering to the Lord.

- Leviticus 2:1 This chapter deals with the offering no longer of animals but of food; in addition, one section is addressed to priests. No yeast was allowed because it would corrupt the food.
- Leviticus 2:2 The memorial portion was the part more suited to emitting a pleasing fragrance as it was burned; the ascent of the aroma was meant to make God mindful of the offerer.
- Leviticus 2:3 Most holy part: this was the part of the people’s offering reserved for the priests who were not to share it with family members and only eat it in the sanctuary.
- Leviticus 2:11 Honey: not to be used in sacrifice, as was anything leavened, because it fermented quickly and was used in cultic practice.
- Leviticus 2:13 Salt of your covenant: salt was required to be sprinkled by the priests on the offerings of the people, and was also used in making the incense for the sanctuary. Giving salt or consuming salt with others is a symbol of friendship, hence, the association with a covenant.

The Grain Offering
2 “When anyone presents a grain offering(A) as a gift to the Lord, his gift must consist of fine flour.[a](B) He is to pour olive oil(C) on it, put frankincense on it,[b](D) 2 and bring it to Aaron’s sons the priests. The priest will take a handful of fine flour and oil from it, along with all its frankincense, and will burn this memorial portion(E) of it on the altar, a fire offering of a pleasing aroma to the Lord. 3 But the rest of the grain offering will belong to Aaron and his sons; it is the holiest part(F) of the fire offerings to the Lord.
4 “When you present a grain offering baked in an oven, it must be made of fine flour, either unleavened cakes(G) mixed with oil or unleavened wafers(H) coated with oil. 5 If your gift is a grain offering prepared on a griddle,(I) it must be unleavened bread(J) made of fine flour mixed with oil. 6 Break it into pieces and pour oil on it; it is a grain offering. 7 If your gift is a grain offering prepared in a pan,(K) it must be made of fine flour with oil. 8 When you bring[c] to the Lord the grain offering made in any of these ways, it is to be presented to the priest, and he will take it to the altar. 9 The priest will remove the memorial portion[d] from the grain offering and burn it on the altar, a fire offering of a pleasing aroma to the Lord. 10 But the rest of the grain offering will belong to Aaron and his sons;(L) it is the holiest part of the fire offerings to the Lord.
11 “No grain offering that you present to the Lord is to be made with yeast, for you are not to burn[e] any yeast(M) or honey(N) as a fire offering to the Lord. 12 You may present them to the Lord as an offering of firstfruits,(O) but they are not to be offered on the altar as a pleasing aroma. 13 You are to season each of your grain offerings with salt; you must not omit from your grain offering the salt of the covenant(P) with your God. You are to present salt[f] with each of your offerings.
14 “If you present a grain offering of firstfruits to the Lord, you must present fresh heads of grain, crushed kernels, roasted on the fire, for your grain offering of firstfruits. 15 You are to put oil and frankincense on it; it is a grain offering. 16 The priest will then burn some of its crushed kernels and oil with all its frankincense as a fire offering to the Lord.

And he shall pour oil on it, and put (B)frankincense on it. 2 He shall bring it to Aaron’s sons, the priests, one of whom shall take from it his handful of fine flour and oil with all the frankincense. And the priest shall burn (C)it as a memorial on the altar, an offering made by fire, a sweet aroma to the Lord. 3 (D)The rest of the grain offering shall be Aaron’s and his (E)sons’. (F)It is most holy of the offerings to the Lord made by fire.

It is an (J)offering made by fire, a sweet aroma to the Lord. 10 And (K)what is left of the grain offering shall be Aaron’s and his sons’. It is most holy of the offerings to the Lord made by fire.
11 ‘No grain offering which you bring to the Lord shall be made with (L)leaven, for you shall burn no leaven nor any honey in any offering to the Lord made by fire. 12 (M)As for the offering of the firstfruits, you shall offer them to the Lord, but they shall not be burned on the altar for a sweet aroma. 13 And every offering of your grain offering (N)you shall season with salt; you shall not allow (O)the salt of the covenant of your God to be lacking from your grain offering. (P)With all your offerings you shall offer salt.
14 ‘If you offer a grain offering of your firstfruits to the Lord, (Q)you shall offer for the grain offering of your firstfruits green heads of grain roasted on the fire, grain beaten from (R)full heads. 15 And (S)you shall put oil on it, and lay frankincense on it. It is a grain offering. 16 Then the priest shall burn (T)the memorial portion: part of its beaten grain and part of its oil, with all the frankincense, as an offering made by fire to the Lord.
