The Feast of Booths

33 Again Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 34 “Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘On (A)the fifteenth of this seventh month is the (B)Feast of Booths for seven days to Yahweh. 35 On the first day is a holy convocation; you shall do (C)no laborious work of any kind. 36 (D)For seven days you shall bring an offering by fire near to Yahweh. On (E)the eighth day you shall have a holy convocation and bring an offering by fire near to Yahweh; it is a solemn assembly. You shall do no laborious work.

37 ‘These are (F)the appointed times of Yahweh which you shall proclaim as holy convocations, to bring offerings by fire near to Yahweh—burnt offerings and grain offerings, sacrifices and drink offerings, (G)each day’s matter on its own day— 38 besides those of the sabbaths of Yahweh and besides your gifts and besides all your [a]votive and freewill offerings, which you give to Yahweh.

39 ‘On exactly the fifteenth day of the seventh month, (H)when you have gathered in the produce of the land, you shall celebrate the feast of Yahweh for seven days, with a [b]rest on the first day and a [c]rest on the eighth day. 40 And on the first day you shall take for yourselves the [d]foliage of beautiful trees, palm branches and boughs of leafy trees and willows of the brook, and you shall be glad before Yahweh your God for seven days. 41 You shall thus celebrate it as a feast to Yahweh for seven days in the year. It shall be a perpetual statute throughout your generations; you shall celebrate it in the seventh month. 42 You shall [e]live (I)in booths for seven days; all the native-born in Israel shall [f]live in booths, 43 so that (J)your generations may know that I had the sons of Israel live in booths when I brought them out from the land of Egypt. I am Yahweh your God.’” 44 So Moses spoke to the sons of Israel (K)the appointed times of Yahweh.

33 The Lord spoke to Moses: 34 “Tell the Israelites: The Festival of Booths[a](A) to the Lord begins on the fifteenth day of this seventh month and continues for seven days. 35 There is to be a sacred assembly on the first day; you are not to do any daily work. 36 You are to present a fire offering to the Lord for seven days. On the eighth day you are to hold a sacred assembly and present a fire offering to the Lord. It is a solemn gathering;(B) you are not to do any daily work.

37 “These are the Lord’s appointed times that you are to proclaim as sacred assemblies for presenting fire offerings to the Lord, burnt offerings and grain offerings, sacrifices and drink offerings, each on its designated day. 38 These are in addition to the offerings for the Lord’s Sabbaths, your gifts, all your vow offerings, and all your freewill offerings that you give to the Lord.

39 “You are to celebrate the Lord’s festival on the fifteenth day of the seventh month for seven days after you have gathered the produce of the land. There will be complete rest on the first day and complete rest on the eighth day. 40 On the first day you are to take the product(C) of majestic trees—palm fronds,(D) boughs of leafy trees,(E) and willows of the brook(F)—and rejoice before the Lord your God for seven days. 41 You are to celebrate it as a festival to the Lord seven days each year. This is a permanent statute for you throughout your generations; you must celebrate it in the seventh month. 42 You are to live in booths(G) for seven days. All the native-born of Israel must live in booths, 43 so that your generations may know that I made the Israelites live in booths when I brought them out of the land of Egypt; I am Yahweh your God.” 44 So Moses declared the Lord’s appointed times to the Israelites.

The Festival of Tabernacles(A)

33 The Lord said to Moses, 34 “Say to the Israelites: ‘On the fifteenth day of the seventh(B) month the Lord’s Festival of Tabernacles(C) begins, and it lasts for seven days. 35 The first day is a sacred assembly;(D) do no regular work.(E) 36 For seven days present food offerings to the Lord, and on the eighth day hold a sacred assembly(F) and present a food offering to the Lord.(G) It is the closing special assembly; do no regular work.

37 (“‘These are the Lord’s appointed festivals, which you are to proclaim as sacred assemblies for bringing food offerings to the Lord—the burnt offerings and grain offerings, sacrifices and drink offerings(H) required for each day. 38 These offerings(I) are in addition to those for the Lord’s Sabbaths(J) and[a] in addition to your gifts and whatever you have vowed and all the freewill offerings(K) you give to the Lord.)

39 “‘So beginning with the fifteenth day of the seventh month, after you have gathered the crops of the land, celebrate the festival(L) to the Lord for seven days;(M) the first day is a day of sabbath rest, and the eighth day also is a day of sabbath rest. 40 On the first day you are to take branches(N) from luxuriant trees—from palms, willows and other leafy trees(O)—and rejoice(P) before the Lord your God for seven days. 41 Celebrate this as a festival to the Lord for seven days each year. This is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to come; celebrate it in the seventh month. 42 Live in temporary shelters(Q) for seven days: All native-born Israelites are to live in such shelters 43 so your descendants will know(R) that I had the Israelites live in temporary shelters when I brought them out of Egypt. I am the Lord your God.’”

44 So Moses announced to the Israelites the appointed festivals of the Lord.
