¹⁵ The elders^(A) of the community are to lay their hands^(B) on the bull’s head^(C) before the Lord, and the bull shall be slaughtered before the Lord.^(D)

⁴ You are to lay your hand on the head^(A) of the burnt offering,^(B) and it will be accepted^(C) on your behalf to make atonement^(D) for you.

³ Then the elders of the town nearest the body shall take a heifer that has never been worked and has never worn a yoke^{(A) 4} and lead it down to a valley that has not been plowed or planted and where there is a flowing stream. There in the valley they are to break the heifer’s neck. ⁵ The Levitical priests shall step forward, for the Lord your God has chosen them to minister and to pronounce blessings^(B) in the name of the Lord and to decide all cases of dispute and assault.^{(C) 6} Then all the elders of the town nearest the body shall wash their hands^(D) over the heifer whose neck was broken in the valley, ⁷ and they shall declare: “Our hands did not shed this blood, nor did our eyes see it done. ⁸ Accept this atonement for your people Israel, whom you have redeemed, Lord, and do not hold your people guilty of the blood of an innocent person.” Then the bloodshed will be atoned for,^{(E) 9} and you will have purged^(F) from yourselves the guilt of shedding innocent blood, since you have done what is right in the eyes of the Lord.

²⁵ Then the Lord came down in the cloud^(A) and spoke with him,^(B) and he took some of the power of the Spirit^(C) that was on him and put it on the seventy elders.^(D) When the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied^(E)—but did not do so again.

¹⁶ The Lord said to Moses: “Bring me seventy of Israel’s elders^(A) who are known to you as leaders and officials among the people.^(B) Have them come to the tent of meeting,^(C) that they may stand there with you.

¹⁰ You are to bring the Levites before the Lord, and the Israelites are to lay their hands on them.^(A)

²¹ He is to lay both hands on the head of the live goat^(A) and confess^(B) over it all the wickedness and rebellion of the Israelites—all their sins—and put them on the goat’s head. He shall send the goat away into the wilderness in the care of someone appointed for the task.

²² He then presented the other ram, the ram for the ordination,^(A) and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on its head.^(B)
