¹² “‘Do not swear falsely^(A) by my name^(B) and so profane^(C) the name of your God. I am the Lord.

²¹ “‘Do not give any of your children^(A) to be sacrificed to Molek,^(B) for you must not profane the name of your God.^(C) I am the Lord.^(D)

¹² Above all, my brothers and sisters, do not swear—not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. All you need to say is a simple “Yes” or “No.” Otherwise you will be condemned.^(A)

Oaths

³³ “Again, you have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘Do not break your oath,^(A) but fulfill to the Lord the vows you have made.’^{(B) 34} But I tell you, do not swear an oath at all:^(C) either by heaven, for it is God’s throne;^(D)

⁴ The Lord Almighty declares, ‘I will send it out, and it will enter the house of the thief and the house of anyone who swears falsely^(A) by my name. It will remain in that house and destroy it completely, both its timbers and its stones.^(B)’”

¹⁵ Say to the Israelites: ‘Anyone who curses their God^(A) will be held responsible;^{(B) 16} anyone who blasphemes^(C) the name of the Lord is to be put to death.^(D) The entire assembly must stone them. Whether foreigner or native-born, when they blaspheme the Name they are to be put to death.

¹¹ The son of the Israelite woman blasphemed the Name^(A) with a curse;^(B) so they brought him to Moses.^(C) (His mother’s name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri the Danite.)^(D)
