We hoped for peace
    but no good has come,
for a time of healing

    and the guilt of our ancestors;^(E)
    we have indeed sinned^(F) against you.
²¹ For the sake of your name^(G) do not despise us;
    do not dishonor your glorious throne.^(H)
Remember your covenant^(I) with us
    and do not break it.

⁹ Do not be angry^(A) beyond measure, Lord;
    do not remember our sins^(B) forever.
Oh, look on us, we pray,
    for we are all your people.^(C)
10 Your sacred cities^(D) have become a wasteland;
    even Zion is a wasteland, Jerusalem a desolation.^(E)
11 Our holy and glorious temple,^(F) where our ancestors praised you,
    has been burned with fire,
    and all that we treasured^(G) lies in ruins.

    Will you keep silent^(I) and punish us beyond measure?
