Gedeón
6 Los israelitas hicieron lo que ofende al Señor, y él los entregó en manos de los madianitas durante siete años. 2 Era tal la tiranía de los madianitas que los israelitas se hicieron escondites en las montañas, las cuevas y otros lugares de refugio. 3 Siempre que los israelitas sembraban, los madianitas, amalecitas y otros pueblos del oriente venían y los atacaban. 4 Acampaban y arruinaban las cosechas por todo el territorio, hasta la región de Gaza. No dejaban en Israel nada con vida: ni ovejas, ni bueyes ni asnos. 5 Llegaban con su ganado y con sus tiendas como plaga de langostas. Tanto ellos como sus camellos eran incontables, e invadían el país para devastarlo. 6 Era tal la miseria de los israelitas por causa de los madianitas que clamaron al Señor pidiendo ayuda.
7 Cuando los israelitas clamaron al Señor a causa de los madianitas, 8 el Señor les envió un profeta que dijo: «Así dice el Señor, Dios de Israel: “Yo os saqué de Egipto, tierra de esclavitud, 9 y os libré de su poder. También os libré del poder de todos vuestros opresores, a quienes expulsé de vuestra presencia para entregaros su tierra”. 10 Os dije: “Yo soy el Señor vuestro Dios; no adoréis a los dioses de los amorreos, en cuya tierra vivís”. Pero vosotros no me obedecisteis».
11 El ángel del Señor vino y se sentó bajo la encina que estaba en Ofra, la cual pertenecía a Joás, del clan de Abiezer. Su hijo Gedeón estaba trillando trigo en un lagar, para protegerlo de los madianitas. 12 Cuando el ángel del Señor se le apareció a Gedeón, le dijo:
―¡El Señor está contigo, guerrero valiente!
13 ―Pero, señor —replicó Gedeón—, si el Señor está con nosotros, ¿cómo es que nos sucede todo esto? ¿Dónde están todas las maravillas que nos contaban nuestros padres, cuando decían: “¡El Señor nos sacó de Egipto!”? ¡La verdad es que el Señor nos ha desamparado y nos ha entregado en manos de Madián!
14 El Señor lo miró y le dijo:
―Ve con la fuerza que tienes, y salvarás a Israel del poder de Madián. Yo soy quien te envía.
15 ―Pero, señor —objetó Gedeón—, ¿cómo voy a salvar a Israel? Mi clan es el más débil de la tribu de Manasés, y yo soy el más insignificante de mi familia.
16 El Señor respondió:
―Tú derrotarás a los madianitas como si fueran un solo hombre, porque yo estaré contigo.
17 ―Si me he ganado tu favor, dame una señal de que en realidad eres tú quien habla conmigo —respondió Gedeón—. 18 Te ruego que no te vayas hasta que yo vuelva y traiga mi ofrenda y la ponga ante ti.
―Esperaré hasta que vuelvas —le dijo el Señor.
19 Gedeón se fue a preparar un cabrito; además, con una medida[a] de harina hizo panes sin levadura. Luego puso la carne en una canasta y el caldo en una olla, y los llevó y se los ofreció al ángel bajo la encina.
20 El ángel de Dios le dijo:
―Toma la carne y el pan sin levadura, y ponlos sobre esta roca; y derrama el caldo.
Y así lo hizo Gedeón. 21 Entonces, con la punta del bastón que llevaba en la mano, el ángel del Señor tocó la carne y el pan sin levadura, ¡y de la roca salió fuego, que consumió la carne y el pan! Luego el ángel del Señor desapareció de su vista. 22 Cuando Gedeón se dio cuenta de que se trataba del ángel del Señor, exclamó:
―¡Ay de mí, Señor y Dios! ¡He visto al ángel del Señor cara a cara!
23 Pero el Señor le dijo:
―¡Quédate tranquilo! No temas. No vas a morir.
24 Entonces Gedeón construyó allí un altar al Señor, y lo llamó «El Señor es la paz», el cual hasta el día de hoy se encuentra en Ofra de Abiezer.
25 Aquella misma noche el Señor le dijo: «Toma un toro del rebaño de tu padre; el segundo, el que tiene siete años.[b] Derriba el altar que tu padre ha dedicado a Baal, y el poste con la imagen de la diosa Aserá que está junto a él. 26 Luego, sobre la cima de este lugar de refugio, construye un altar apropiado[c] para el Señor tu Dios. Toma entonces la leña del poste de Aserá que cortaste, y ofrece el segundo toro[d] como un holocausto».
27 Gedeón llevó a diez de sus siervos e hizo lo que el Señor le había ordenado. Pero en lugar de hacerlo de día lo hizo de noche, pues tenía miedo de su familia y de los hombres de la ciudad.
28 Cuando los hombres de la ciudad se levantaron por la mañana, vieron que el altar de Baal estaba destruido, que el poste con la imagen de la diosa Aserá estaba cortado, y que el segundo toro había sido sacrificado sobre el altar recién construido.
29 Entonces se preguntaban el uno al otro: «¿Quién habrá hecho esto?» Después de investigar cuidadosamente, llegaron a la conclusión: «Gedeón hijo de Joás lo hizo». 30 Entonces los hombres de la ciudad le exigieron a Joás:
―Saca a tu hijo, pues debe morir, porque destruyó el altar de Baal y derribó la imagen de Aserá que estaba junto a él.
31 Pero Joás les respondió a todos los que lo amenazaban:
―¿Acaso vais a defender a Baal? ¿Creéis que lo vais a salvar? ¡Cualquiera que defienda a Baal, que muera antes del amanecer! Si de veras Baal es un dios, debe poder defenderse de quien destruya su altar.
32 Por eso aquel día llamaron a Gedeón «Yerubaal»,[e] diciendo: «Que Baal se defienda contra él», porque él destruyó su altar.
33 Todos los madianitas y amalecitas, y otros pueblos del oriente, se aliaron y cruzaron el Jordán, acampando en el valle de Jezrel. 34 Entonces Gedeón, poseído por el Espíritu del Señor, tocó la trompeta, y todos los del clan de Abiezer fueron convocados a seguirlo. 35 Envió mensajeros a toda la tribu de Manasés, convocándolos para que lo siguieran, y además los envió a Aser, Zabulón y Neftalí, de modo que también estos se le unieron.
36 Gedeón le dijo a Dios: «Si has de salvar a Israel por mi mano, como has prometido, 37 mira, tenderé un vellón de lana en la era, sobre el suelo. Si el rocío cae solo sobre el vellón y todo el suelo alrededor queda seco, entonces sabré que salvarás a Israel por mi mano, como prometiste».
38 Y así sucedió. Al día siguiente Gedeón se levantó temprano, exprimió el vellón para sacarle el rocío, y llenó una taza de agua. 39 Entonces Gedeón le dijo a Dios: «No te enojes conmigo. Déjame hacer solo una petición más. Permíteme hacer una prueba más con el vellón. Esta vez haz que solo el vellón quede seco, y que todo el suelo quede cubierto de rocío».
40 Así lo hizo Dios aquella noche. Solo el vellón quedó seco, mientras que todo el suelo estaba cubierto de rocío.

Israel Oppressed by Midian
6 Then the Israelites did evil in the sight of the Lord; and the Lord gave them into the hand of Midian for seven years. 2 The [powerful] hand of Midian prevailed against Israel. Because of Midian the sons of Israel made for themselves the dens (hideouts) which were in the mountains, and the caves and the [mountain] strongholds. 3 For it was whenever Israel had sown [their seed] that the Midianites would come up with the Amalekites and the people of the east and go up against them. 4 So they would camp against them and destroy the crops of the land as far as Gaza, and leave no sustenance in Israel as well as no sheep, ox, or donkey. 5 For they would come up with their livestock and their tents, and they would come in as numerous as locusts; both they and their camels were innumerable. So they came into the land to devastate it. 6 So Israel was greatly impoverished because of the Midianites, and the Israelites cried out to the Lord [for help].
7 Now it came about when they cried out to the Lord because of Midian, 8 that the Lord sent a prophet to the Israelites, and he said to them, “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, ‘I brought you up from Egypt and brought you out of the house of slavery. 9 And I rescued you from the hand of the Egyptians and from the hand of all who oppressed you, and drove them out before you and gave you their land, 10 and I said to you, “I am the Lord your God; you shall not fear the gods of the Amorites in whose land you live.” But you have not listened to and obeyed My voice.’”
Gideon Is Visited
11 Now the [a]Angel of the Lord came and sat under the terebinth tree at Ophrah, which belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, and his son Gideon was beating wheat in the wine press [instead of the threshing floor] to [hide it and] save it from the Midianites. 12 And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him and said to him, “The Lord is with you, O brave man.” 13 But Gideon said to him, “Please my lord, if the Lord is with us, then why has all this happened to us? And where are all His wondrous works which our fathers told us about when they said, ‘Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt?’ But now the Lord has abandoned us and put us into the hand of Midian.” 14 The Lord turned to him and said, “Go in this strength of yours and save Israel from the hand of Midian. Have I not sent you?” 15 But Gideon said to Him, “Please Lord, how am I to rescue Israel? Behold, my family is the least [significant] in Manasseh, and I am the youngest (smallest) in my father’s house.” 16 The Lord answered him, “I will certainly be with you, and you will strike down the Midianites as [if they were only] one man.” 17 Gideon replied to Him, “If I have found any favor in Your sight, then show me a sign that it is You who speaks with me. 18 Please do not depart from here until I come back to You, and bring my offering and place it before You.” And He said, “I will wait until you return.”
19 Then Gideon went and prepared a young goat and unleavened bread from an ephah of flour. The meat he put in a basket and the broth in a pot, and he brought the food to Him under the oak (terebinth) and presented it. 20 The Angel of God said to him, “Take the meat and unleavened bread and lay them on this rock, and pour out the broth [over them].” And he did so. 21 Then the Angel of the Lord put out the end of the staff that was in His hand and touched the meat and the unleavened bread; and fire flared up from the rock and consumed the meat and the unleavened bread. Then the Angel of the Lord vanished from his sight. 22 When Gideon realized [without any doubt] that He was the Angel of the Lord, he declared, “[b]Oh no, Lord God! For now I have seen the Angel of the Lord face to face [and I am doomed]!” 23 The Lord said to him, “Peace to you, do not be afraid; you shall not die.” 24 Then Gideon built an altar there to the Lord and named it The Lord is Peace. To this day it is still in Ophrah, of the Abiezrites.
25 Now on that same night the Lord said to Gideon, “Take your father’s bull, the second bull seven years old, and tear down the altar of Baal that belongs to your father, and cut down [c]the Asherah that is beside it; 26 and build an altar to the Lord your God on top of this mountain stronghold [with stones laid down] in an orderly way. Then take the second bull and offer a burnt sacrifice using the wood of the Asherah which you shall cut down.” 27 Then Gideon took ten men of his servants and did just as the Lord had told him; but because he was too afraid of his father’s household (relatives) and the men of the city to do it during daylight, he did it at night.
The Altar of Baal Destroyed
28 Early the next morning when the men of the city got up, they discovered that the altar of Baal was torn down, and the Asherah which was beside it was cut down, and the second bull was offered on the altar which had been built. 29 So they said to one another, “Who has done this thing?” When they searched about and inquired, they were told, “Gideon the son of Joash did it.” 30 Then the men of the city said to Joash, “Bring out your son, so that he may be executed, because he has torn down the altar of Baal and cut down the Asherah which was beside it.” 31 But Joash said to all who stood against him, “Will you [d]plead for Baal? Will you save him? Whoever pleads for Baal shall be put to death while it is still morning. If Baal is a god, let him defend himself, because someone has torn down his altar.” 32 Therefore on that day he named Gideon Jerubbaal, [e]meaning, “Let Baal plead,” because he had torn down his altar.
33 Then all the Midianites and the Amalekites and the people of the east assembled together; and they crossed over [the Jordan] and camped in the Valley of Jezreel. 34 So the Spirit of the Lord [f]clothed Gideon [and empowered him]; and he blew a trumpet, and the Abiezrites were called together [as a militia] to follow him. 35 He sent messengers throughout [the tribe of] Manasseh, and the fighting men were also called together to follow him; and he sent messengers to [the tribes of] Asher, Zebulun, and Naphtali, and they came up to meet them.
Sign of the Fleece
36 Then Gideon said to God, “If You are going to rescue Israel through me, as You have spoken, 37 behold, I will put a fleece of [freshly sheared] wool on the threshing floor. If there is dew only on the fleece, and it is dry on all the ground [around it], then I will know that You will rescue Israel through me, as You have said.” 38 And it was so. When he got up early the next morning and squeezed the dew out of the fleece, he wrung from it a bowl full of water. 39 Then Gideon said to God, “Do not let your anger burn against me, so that I may speak once more. Please let me make a test once more with the fleece; now let only the fleece be dry, and let there be dew on all the ground.” 40 God did so that night; for it was dry only on the fleece, and there was dew on all the ground [around it].

10 (H)И ви казах: Аз съм Господ, вашият Бог. Не почитайте боговете на аморейците, в чиято земя живеете. Вие обаче не послушахте гласа Ми.
11 (I)Тогава ангел Господен дойде и седна под дъба, който е в Офра и принадлежеше на авиезереца Йоас; а синът му Гедеон чукаше жито в лина, за да го скрие от мадиамците.
12 (J)И ангелът Господен му се яви и му каза: Господ е с тебе, мъжо силни и храбри.
13 (K)А Гедеон му отговори: О, господарю, ако Господ е с нас, то защо ни връхлетя всичко това? И къде са всичките Му чудеса, за които бащите ни са ни разказвали: Не ни ли изведе Господ от Египет? Но сега Господ ни е изоставил и ни е предал в ръката на мадиамците.
14 (L)И Господ го погледна и му каза: Иди с тази твоя сила и ще освободиш Израил от ръката на мадиамците. Аз те изпращам.

21 (S)Тогава ангелът Господен протегна жезъла, който държеше, и с края му докосна месото и пресните пити. От камъка излезе огън и изпепели месото и пресните пити. След това ангелът Господен си отиде пред очите му.
22 (T)Гедеон, като видя, че това беше ангел Господен, каза: Горко ми, Господи Йехова! Защото видях ангела Господен лице в лице.
23 (U)А Господ му отговори: Мир на тебе, не бой се; няма да умреш.
24 (V)И Гедеон издигна там жертвеник на Господа и го нарече Йехова-шалом[b]. Той стои и до днес в Офра Авиезерова.
25 (W)В същата нощ Господ му каза: Вземи бащиния си вол, втория вол, седемгодишния, и разруши Вааловия жертвеник, който се намира при баща ти, и съсечи ашерата, която е при него.
26 После на върха на тази скала издигни жертвеник на Господа, твоя Бог, както му е редът, и вземи втория вол и го принеси за всеизгаряне, като използваш дървата от ашерата, която ще съсечеш.
27 И така, Гедеон взе десетина души от слугите си и направи, както Господ му каза. Но понеже се страхуваше от бащиния си дом и от градските жители, не го направи през деня, а през нощта.
28 А когато градските жители станаха на другата сутрин, видяха, че Вааловият жертвеник беше съборен и ашерата, която беше при него – отсечена, а вторият вол – цял изгорен на издигнатия жертвеник.
29 Те си казаха един на друг: Кой е извършил това? И като разпитаха и издириха, разбраха, че Гедеон, Йоасовият син, е извършил тази работа.
30 Тогава градските жители казаха на Йоас: Изведи сина си да бъде умъртвен, понеже той е съборил Вааловия жертвеник и понеже е отсякъл ашерата, която беше при него.
31 А Йоас каза на всички, които бяха застанали против него: Вие ли ще защитите делото на Ваал? Или вие ще го спасите? Който защити неговото дело, нека бъде умъртвен още тази сутрин. Ако Ваал е бог, нека сам защити делото си, щом са съборили жертвеника му.
32 (X)Затова в същия ден той нарече сина си Йероваал[c], като казваше: Нека се съди Ваал с него, щом е съборил жертвеника му.
33 (Y)Тогава всичките мадиамци, амаличани и източните жители се събраха заедно, преминаха реката и разположиха стан в долината Езраел.
34 (Z)А Господният Дух дойде върху Гедеон и той засвири с тръба; и авиезерците се събраха да го последват.
35 После изпрати вестоносци до цялото Манасиево племе и те се събраха да го последват; прати вестоносци и до Асир, до Завулон и до Нефталим, а те дойдоха и ги посрещнаха.
36 И Гедеон каза на Бога: Ако искаш да освободиш Израил с моята ръка, според както си казал,
37 (AA)ето, аз ще сложа руно вълна на хармана. Ако падне роса само на руното, а цялата почва остане суха, тогава ще знам, че ще освободиш Израил с моята ръка, според както си казал.
38 Така и стана. Като стана рано на сутринта, той изстиска руното и от него потече роса. Събра се пълен леген с вода.
39 (AB)Гедеон каза на Бога: Не се разгневявай против мен, аз ще проговоря само още веднъж, нека опитам, моля Ти се, само още веднъж с руното. Но сега нека остане сухо само руното, а по цялата почва нека падне роса.
40 И същата нощ Бог направи така – само руното остана сухо, а по цялата почва падна роса.
