14 And Samson went down to Timnath, and saw a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines.
2 And he came up, and told his father and his mother, and said, I have seen a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines: now therefore get her for me to wife.
3 Then his father and his mother said unto him, Is there never a woman among the daughters of thy brethren, or among all my people, that thou goest to take a wife of the uncircumcised Philistines? And Samson said unto his father, Get her for me; for she pleaseth me well.
4 But his father and his mother knew not that it was of the Lord, that he sought an occasion against the Philistines: for at that time the Philistines had dominion over Israel.
5 Then went Samson down, and his father and his mother, to Timnath, and came to the vineyards of Timnath: and, behold, a young lion roared against him.
6 And the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon him, and he rent him as he would have rent a kid, and he had nothing in his hand: but he told not his father or his mother what he had done.
7 And he went down, and talked with the woman; and she pleased Samson well.
8 And after a time he returned to take her, and he turned aside to see the carcase of the lion: and, behold, there was a swarm of bees and honey in the carcase of the lion.
9 And he took thereof in his hands, and went on eating, and came to his father and mother, and he gave them, and they did eat: but he told not them that he had taken the honey out of the carcase of the lion.
10 So his father went down unto the woman: and Samson made there a feast; for so used the young men to do.
11 And it came to pass, when they saw him, that they brought thirty companions to be with him.
12 And Samson said unto them, I will now put forth a riddle unto you: if ye can certainly declare it me within the seven days of the feast, and find it out, then I will give you thirty sheets and thirty change of garments:
13 But if ye cannot declare it me, then shall ye give me thirty sheets and thirty change of garments. And they said unto him, Put forth thy riddle, that we may hear it.
14 And he said unto them, Out of the eater came forth meat, and out of the strong came forth sweetness. And they could not in three days expound the riddle.
15 And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they said unto Samson's wife, Entice thy husband, that he may declare unto us the riddle, lest we burn thee and thy father's house with fire: have ye called us to take that we have? is it not so?
16 And Samson's wife wept before him, and said, Thou dost but hate me, and lovest me not: thou hast put forth a riddle unto the children of my people, and hast not told it me. And he said unto her, Behold, I have not told it my father nor my mother, and shall I tell it thee?
17 And she wept before him the seven days, while their feast lasted: and it came to pass on the seventh day, that he told her, because she lay sore upon him: and she told the riddle to the children of her people.
18 And the men of the city said unto him on the seventh day before the sun went down, What is sweeter than honey? And what is stronger than a lion? and he said unto them, If ye had not plowed with my heifer, ye had not found out my riddle.
19 And the Spirit of the Lord came upon him, and he went down to Ashkelon, and slew thirty men of them, and took their spoil, and gave change of garments unto them which expounded the riddle. And his anger was kindled, and he went up to his father's house.
20 But Samson's wife was given to his companion, whom he had used as his friend.

14 En cierta ocasión, Sansón fue a Timnat y vio allí a una mujer filistea. 2 Al volver a su casa, les confesó a sus padres:
«Allá en Timnat vi a una filistea, y yo les ruego que la pidan para que sea mi mujer.»
3 Pero ellos le respondieron:
«¿Y acaso ya no hay mujeres entre las hijas de tus parientes, ni en todo nuestro pueblo, para que vayas y tomes por mujer una filistea, hija de incircuncisos?»
Y Sansón respondió:
«Pidan por mí a esa mujer, porque es la que me gusta.»
4 Sus padres no sabían que esto era un plan del Señor, y que él buscaba un pretexto para atacar a los filisteos, que en aquel tiempo dominaban a Israel. 5 Y sucedió que, al dirigirse Sansón y sus padres a Timnat, cuando llegaron a las viñas de Timnat, un cachorro de león salió rugiendo a su encuentro. 6 Entonces el espíritu del Señor vino sobre Sansón, y éste despedazó al león como si fuera un cabrito, sin más armas que sus manos: Pero a sus padres no les dijo lo que había hecho. 7 Luego, Sansón fue a hablar con la mujer que le gustaba.
8 Tiempo después, al volver para tomar a la mujer, Sansón se apartó del camino para ver el cadáver del león, y se encontró con que en el cadáver había un enjambre de abejas y un panal de miel. 9 Sansón tomó el panal y se fue comiéndolo por el camino, y cuando alcanzó a sus padres les dio miel para que comieran, aunque no les dijo que la miel la había tomado del león.
10 El padre de Sansón fue y habló con la mujer, y Sansón ofreció un banquete, como solían hacer los jóvenes. 11 Y cuando los filisteos vieron a Sansón, llamaron a treinta de sus amigos para estar con él. 12 Entonces Sansón les dijo:
«Les voy a proponer un enigma. Si en los siete días del banquete logran descifrarlo, les daré treinta vestidos de lino y treinta vestidos de fiesta. 13 Pero si no lo pueden descifrar, entonces ustedes me darán los treinta vestidos de lino y los vestidos de fiesta.»
Ellos respondieron:
«Queremos oír tu enigma.»
14 Y Sansón dijo:
«Del devorador salió comida,
y del fuerte salió dulzura.»
Pasaron tres días, y ellos no podían descifrar el enigma, 15 así que el séptimo día le dijeron a la mujer de Sansón:
«Haz que tu marido te diga la solución de su enigma. De lo contrario, les prenderemos fuego a ti y a la casa de tu padre. ¿Acaso nos invitaron para quitarnos lo nuestro?»
16 La mujer de Sansón se echó a llorar, y le dijo:
«Tú no me quieres. Más bien, me odias, pues no me has dicho cuál es la respuesta al enigma que propusiste a mi gente.»
Y Sansón respondió:
«Si ni a mis padres les he dado la respuesta, ¿crees que te la daría a ti?»
17 Y su mujer lloró ante él los siete días del banquete, pero tanto presionó a Sansón que al séptimo día éste cedió y le dio la respuesta. Entonces ella fue y se la hizo saber a su gente. 18 Ese mismo día, antes de que el sol se pusiera, los jóvenes de la ciudad le dijeron:
«¿Qué cosa hay más dulce que la miel?
¿Y qué cosa hay más fuerte que el león?»
Y Sansón les dijo:
«Si no araran con mi novilla,
jamás habrían solucionado el enigma.»
19 Y el espíritu del Señor vino sobre Sansón, y éste fue hasta Ascalón, y allí mató a treinta hombres, y de lo que les arrebató tomó los vestidos para dárselos a los que le explicaron el enigma. Pero regresó a la casa de su padre muy enojado, 20 y la mujer de Sansón fue entregada a uno de sus amigos.

14 Now Samson went down (A)to Timnah, and (B)saw a woman in Timnah of the daughters of the Philistines. 2 So he went up and told his father and mother, saying, “I have seen a woman in Timnah of the daughters of the Philistines; now therefore, (C)get her for me as a wife.”
3 Then his father and mother said to him, “Is there no woman among the daughters of (D)your brethren, or among all my people, that you must go and get a wife from the (E)uncircumcised Philistines?”
And Samson said to his father, “Get her for me, for [a]she pleases me well.”
4 But his father and mother did not know that it was (F)of the Lord—that He was seeking an occasion to move against the Philistines. For at that time (G)the Philistines had dominion over Israel.
5 So Samson went down to Timnah with his father and mother, and came to the vineyards of Timnah.
Now to his surprise, a young lion came roaring against him. 6 And (H)the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon him, and he tore the lion apart as one would have torn apart a young goat, though he had nothing in his hand. But he did not tell his father or his mother what he had done.
7 Then he went down and talked with the woman; and she pleased Samson well. 8 After some time, when he returned to get her, he turned aside to see the carcass of the lion. And behold, a swarm of bees and honey were in the carcass of the lion. 9 He took some of it in his hands and went along, eating. When he came to his father and mother, he gave some to them, and they also ate. But he did not tell them that he had taken the honey out of the (I)carcass of the lion.
10 So his father went down to the woman. And Samson gave a feast there, for young men used to do so. 11 And it happened, when they saw him, that they brought thirty companions to be with him.
12 Then Samson said to them, “Let me (J)pose a riddle to you. If you can correctly solve and explain it to me (K)within the seven days of the feast, then I will give you thirty linen garments and thirty (L)changes of clothing. 13 But if you cannot explain it to me, then you shall give me thirty linen garments and thirty changes of clothing.”
And they said to him, (M)“Pose your riddle, that we may hear it.”
14 So he said to them:
“Out of the eater came something to eat,
And out of the strong came something sweet.”
Now for three days they could not explain the riddle.
15 But it came to pass on the [b]seventh day that they said to Samson’s wife, (N)“Entice your husband, that he may explain the riddle to us, (O)or else we will burn you and your father’s house with fire. Have you invited us in order to take what is ours? Is that not so?”
16 Then Samson’s wife wept on him, and said, (P)“You only hate me! You do not love me! You have posed a riddle to the sons of my people, but you have not explained it to me.”
And he said to her, “Look, I have not explained it to my father or my mother; so should I explain it to you?” 17 Now she had wept on him the seven days while their feast lasted. And it happened on the seventh day that he told her, because she pressed him so much. Then she explained the riddle to the sons of her people. 18 So the men of the city said to him on the seventh day before the sun went down:
“What is sweeter than honey?
And what is stronger than a lion?”
And he said to them:
“If you had not plowed with my heifer,
You would not have solved my riddle!”
19 Then (Q)the Spirit of the Lord came upon him mightily, and he went down to Ashkelon and killed thirty of their men, took their apparel, and gave the changes of clothing to those who had explained the riddle. So his anger was aroused, and he went back up to his father’s house. 20 And Samson’s wife (R)was given to his companion, who had been (S)his best man.

Samson's Marriage
14 (A)Samson went down to (B)Timnah, and at Timnah he saw one of the daughters of the Philistines. 2 Then he came up and told his father and mother, “I saw one of the daughters of the Philistines at Timnah. (C)Now get her for me as my wife.” 3 But his father and mother said to him, “Is there not a woman among the daughters (D)of your relatives, or among all our people, that you must go to take a wife from the (E)uncircumcised Philistines?” But Samson said to his father, “Get her for me, for she is right in my eyes.”
4 His father and mother did not know that it was (F)from the Lord, for he was seeking an opportunity against the Philistines. (G)At that time the Philistines ruled over Israel.
5 Then Samson went down with his father and mother to Timnah, and they came to the vineyards of Timnah. And behold, a young lion came toward him roaring. 6 (H)Then the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon him, and although he had nothing in his hand, he tore the lion in pieces as one tears a young goat. But he did not tell his father or his mother what he had done. 7 Then he went down and talked with the woman, and she was right in Samson's eyes.
8 After some days he returned to take her. And he turned aside to see the carcass of the lion, and behold, there was a swarm of bees in the body of the lion, and honey. 9 He scraped it out into his hands and went on, eating as he went. And he came to his father and mother and gave some to them, and they ate. But he did not tell them that he had scraped the honey from the carcass of the lion.
10 His father went down to the woman, and Samson prepared a feast there, for so the young men used to do. 11 As soon as the people saw him, they brought thirty companions to be with him. 12 And Samson said to them, (I)“Let me now put a riddle to you. If you can tell me what it is, within (J)the seven days of the feast, and find it out, then I will give you thirty linen garments and thirty (K)changes of clothes, 13 but if you cannot tell me what it is, then you shall give me thirty linen garments and thirty changes of clothes.” And they said to him, “Put your riddle, that we may hear it.” 14 And he said to them,
