¹³ Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,
    and he saved them^(A) from their distress.
¹⁴ He brought them out of darkness,^(B) the utter darkness,^(C)
    and broke away their chains.^(D)

⁴⁴ Yet he took note of their distress
    when he heard their cry;^(A)
45 for their sake he remembered his covenant^(B)
    and out of his great love^(C) he relented.^(D)

³⁶ The Lord will vindicate his people^(A)
    and relent^(B) concerning his servants^(C)
when he sees their strength is gone
    and no one is left, slave^(D) or free.^[a]
