¹⁶ And the descendants of the ^(A)Kenite, Moses' father-in-law, went up with the people of Judah ^(B)from the city of palms into the wilderness of Judah, which lies in the Negeb near ^(C)Arad, ^(D)and they went and settled with the people.

²⁹ And Moses said to Hobab the son of ^(A)Reuel the Midianite, Moses' father-in-law, “We are setting out for the place of which the Lord said, ^(B)‘I will give it to you.’ Come with us, and we will do good to you, for ^(C)the Lord has promised good to Israel.” ³⁰ But he said to him, “I will not go. I will depart to my own land and to my kindred.” ³¹ And he said, “Please do not leave us, for you know where we should camp in the wilderness, and you will serve ^(D)as eyes for us. ³² And if you do go with us, ^(E)whatever good the Lord will do to us, the same will we do to you.”

¹¹ Now Heber ^(A)the Kenite had separated from the Kenites, the descendants of ^(B)Hobab the father-in-law of Moses, and had pitched his tent as far away as the oak in ^(C)Zaanannim, which is near Kedesh.

⁶ Then Saul said to ^(A)the Kenites, “Go, depart; go down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them. ^(B)For you showed kindness to all the people of Israel when they came up out of Egypt.” So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.

^3 (A)the Negeb, and ^(B)the Plain, that is, the Valley of Jericho ^(C)the city of palm trees, as far as ^(D)Zoar.

Arad Destroyed

21 When ^(A)the Canaanite, the king of Arad, who lived in ^(B)the Negeb, heard that Israel was coming by the way of Atharim, he fought against Israel, and took some of them captive.

¹³ He gathered to himself the Ammonites and the ^(A)Amalekites, and went and defeated Israel. And they took possession of ^(B)the city of palms.

¹⁷ But Sisera fled away on foot to the tent of Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite, for there was peace between Jabin the king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite.

² “Go to the house of the ^(A)Rechabites and speak with them and bring them to the house of the Lord, into one of ^(B)the chambers; then offer them wine to drink.”

^16 (A)At that time King Ahaz sent to the king^[a] of Assyria for help.
