Jude[a], a slave of Jesus Christ and brother of James, to the called ones having been loved by[b] God the Father and kept[c] by[d] Jesus Christ: May mercy and peace and love be multiplied to you.

Beloved, Fight For The Faith Against Those Seeking To Change Grace Into License

Beloved, while making every effort to be writing to you concerning our common salvation, I had the necessity to write to you exhorting you to be contending[e] for the faith having been delivered once-for-all to the saints. For certain persons sneaked-in[f]— the ones formerly[g] having been portrayed[h] for this judgment, ungodly ones— changing[i] the grace of our God into sensuality and denying our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.

Remember: The Lord Punished The Unbelieving And The Immoral

Now I want to remind you— you knowing[j] all things— that the Lord[k], having once[l] saved[m] the people out of the land of Egypt, afterwards destroyed the ones not having believed. And He has kept[n] angels— the ones not having kept their own domain[o], but having left-behind[p] their own dwelling[q]in eternal bonds[r] under gloom for the judgment of the great day. Just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them in like manner to these[s]— having indulged-in-sexual-immorality and gone after other flesh— are set-forth as an example, undergoing the penalty[t] of eternal fire.

Yet These People Defile The Flesh And Reject God’s Authority. Woe To Them

Yet in the same way also these dreaming ones are defiling the flesh and rejecting authority[u] and blaspheming[v] glories[w]! Now Michael the archangel[x], when he was speaking concerning the body of Moses while disputing with the devil, did not dare to bring[y] a judgment of blasphemy, but said, “May the Lord rebuke you”. 10 But these ones— whatever things they do not understand, they blaspheme; and whatever things they know instinctually like unreasoning animals, by these they are being destroyed. 11 Woe to them, because they went in the way of Cain, and they poured-forth[z] in the error of Balaam for wages, and they perished[aa] in the rebellion of Korah.

Enoch Prophesied God Would Execute Judgment Against These Ungodly Stains

12 These ones are the ones who are spots[ab] in your love-feasts, feasting-with[ac] you fearlessly, tending[ad] themselves; waterless clouds being carried-along by winds; fruitless autumn trees having died twice, having been uprooted; 13 wild waves of the sea foaming-up their shames; wandering stars for whom the gloom of darkness has been reserved forever. 14 But indeed Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied with regard to these ones, saying, “Behold— the Lord came with His holy myriads 15 to execute judgment against all, and to convict every soul concerning all their works of [ae] ungodliness which they did-godlessly, and concerning all the harsh things which ungodly sinners spoke against Him”.

Remember That The Apostles Prophesied of These Mockers Pursuing Their Ungodly Desires

16 These ones are grumblers[af], faultfinders, proceeding in accordance with their own desires. And their mouth speaks pompous words, marveling-at[ag] faces for the sake of advantage. 17 But you, beloved, remember the words having been spoken-beforehand by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ— 18 that they were saying to you that “In the last time there will be mockers proceeding in accordance with their own desires of [ah] ungodliness”.

But You, Beloved, Keep Yourselves In The Love of God

19 These ones are the ones causing-divisions[ai]— natural ones, not having the Spirit. 20 But you, beloved, while building-up yourselves on[aj] your most holy faith, while praying in[ak] the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God while waiting-for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ for eternal life. 22 And be having-mercy-on[al] some doubting[am] ones. 23 And be saving[an] others, snatching them out of the fire. And be having-mercy-on others with fear while hating even the tunic[ao] having been stained by the flesh.

24 Now to the One being able to keep[ap] you from-stumbling[aq] and to make you stand in the presence of His glory without-blemish with gladness[ar], 25 to the only God our Savior through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority before[as] every age, and now, and for[at] all ages, amen.

Greeting

Jude,(A) a servant of Jesus Christ and a brother of James:

To those who are the called,(B) loved[a](C) by God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ.(D)

May mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you.(E)

Jude’s Purpose in Writing

Dear friends, although I was eager to write to you about the salvation we share,(F) I found it necessary to write, appealing to you to contend for the faith(G) that was delivered(H) to the saints once for all. For some people, who were designated for this judgement long ago,[b](I) have come in by stealth;(J) they are ungodly,(K) turning the grace of our God into sensuality and denying(L) Jesus Christ, our only Master and Lord.

Apostates: Past and Present

Now I want to remind you, although you came to know all these things once and for all, that Jesus[c] saved a people out of Egypt and later destroyed those who did not believe;(M) and the angels(N) who did not keep their own position but abandoned their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains in deep darkness for the judgement on the great day. Likewise, Sodom and Gomorrah(O) and the surrounding towns committed sexual immorality and perversions,[d] and serve as an example by undergoing the punishment of eternal fire.(P)

In the same way these people – relying on their dreams – defile their flesh, reject authority, and slander glorious ones.(Q) Yet when Michael(R) the archangel(S) was disputing with the devil(T) in an argument about Moses’s(U) body, he did not dare utter a slanderous condemnation against him but said, ‘The Lord rebuke you! ’ 10 But these people blaspheme anything they do not understand. And what they do understand by instinct – like irrational animals – by these things they are destroyed. 11 Woe to them! For they have gone the way of Cain,(V) have plunged into Balaam’s error(W) for profit, and have perished in Korah’s rebellion.(X)

The Apostates’ Doom

12 These people are dangerous reefs[e] at your love feasts(Y) as they eat with you without reverence. They are shepherds who only look after themselves. They are waterless clouds carried along by winds;(Z) trees in late autumn – fruitless, twice dead and uprooted. 13 They are wild waves of the sea, foaming up their shameful deeds; wandering stars(AA) for whom the blackness of darkness(AB) is reserved for ever.(AC)

14 It was about these that Enoch,(AD) in the seventh generation from Adam, prophesied: ‘Look! The Lord comes with tens of thousands of his holy ones(AE) 15 to execute judgement on all and to convict all the ungodly(AF) concerning all the ungodly acts that they have done in an ungodly way, and concerning all the harsh things ungodly sinners have said against him.’ 16 These people are discontented grumblers, living according to their desires;(AG) their mouths utter arrogant words, flattering(AH) people for their own advantage.

17 But you, dear friends, remember what was predicted by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. 18 They told you, ‘In the end time(AI) there will be scoffers(AJ) living according to their own ungodly desires.’ 19 These people create divisions and are worldly,(AK) not having the Spirit.

Exhortation and Benediction

20 But you, dear friends, as you build yourselves up in your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit,(AL) 21 keep yourselves in the love of God,(AM) waiting expectantly for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ for eternal life. 22 Have mercy on those who waver; 23 save others by snatching them from the fire;(AN) have mercy on others but with fear,(AO) hating(AP) even the garment(AQ) defiled by the flesh.

24 Now to him(AR) who is able to protect you from stumbling(AS) and to make you stand in the presence of his glory, without blemish(AT) and with great joy, 25 to the only(AU) God our Saviour, through Jesus Christ our Lord,[f] be glory, majesty, power, and authority before all time,[g] now and for ever. Amen.

Greeting

Jude, a servant[a] of Jesus Christ and brother of James,

(A)To those who are called, (B)beloved in God the Father and (C)kept for[b] Jesus Christ:

May (D)mercy, (E)peace, and love be multiplied to you.

Judgment on False Teachers

Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our (F)common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you (G)to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints. For (H)certain people (I)have crept in unnoticed (J)who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert (K)the grace of our God into sensuality and (L)deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.

Now I want (M)to remind you, although you once fully knew it, that (N)Jesus, who saved[c] a people out of the land of Egypt, (O)afterward destroyed those who did not believe. And (P)the angels who did not stay within their own position of authority, but left their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness until the judgment of the great day— just as (Q)Sodom and Gomorrah and (R)the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and (S)pursued unnatural desire,[d] serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire.

Yet in like manner these people also, relying on their dreams, defile the flesh, reject authority, and (T)blaspheme the glorious ones. But when (U)the archangel (V)Michael, contending with the devil, was disputing (W)about the body of Moses, he did not presume to pronounce a blasphemous judgment, but said, (X)“The Lord rebuke you.” 10 (Y)But these people blaspheme all that they do not understand, and they are destroyed by all that they, like unreasoning animals, understand instinctively. 11 Woe to them! For they walked in (Z)the way of Cain and abandoned themselves for the sake of gain (AA)to Balaam's error and (AB)perished in Korah's rebellion. 12 These are hidden reefs[e] (AC)at your love feasts, as they feast with you without fear, (AD)shepherds feeding themselves; (AE)waterless clouds, (AF)swept along by winds; fruitless trees in late autumn, twice dead, (AG)uprooted; 13 (AH)wild waves of the sea, casting up the foam of (AI)their own shame; (AJ)wandering stars, (AK)for whom the gloom of utter darkness has been reserved forever.

14 It was also about these that Enoch, (AL)the seventh from Adam, prophesied, saying, (AM)“Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of his holy ones, 15 (AN)to execute judgment on all and to convict all the ungodly of all their deeds of ungodliness that they have (AO)committed in such an ungodly way, and of all (AP)the harsh things that ungodly sinners have spoken against him.” 16 These are grumblers, malcontents, (AQ)following their own sinful desires; (AR)they are loud-mouthed boasters, (AS)showing favoritism to gain advantage.

A Call to Persevere

17 But you must (AT)remember, beloved, the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. 18 They[f] said to you, (AU)“In the last time there will be scoffers, following their own ungodly passions.” 19 It is these who cause divisions, worldly people, (AV)devoid of the Spirit. 20 But you, beloved, (AW)building yourselves up in your most holy faith and (AX)praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 (AY)keep yourselves in the love of God, (AZ)waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. 22 And have mercy on those who doubt; 23 save others by (BA)snatching them out of (BB)the fire; to others show mercy (BC)with fear, hating even (BD)the garment[g] stained by the flesh.

Doxology

24 (BE)Now to him who is able (BF)to keep you from stumbling and (BG)to present you (BH)blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, 25 to (BI)the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, (BJ)be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time[h] and now and forever. Amen.
