6 And they went to Joshua to the (A)camp at Gilgal and said to him and to the men of Israel, “We have come from a far country; so now, cut a covenant with us.” 7 Then the men of Israel said to the (B)Hivites, “Perhaps you are living [a]within our land; (C)how then shall we cut a covenant with you?” 8 But they said to Joshua, “(D)We are your servants.” Then Joshua said to them, “Who are you and where do you come from?”

6 Then they went to the Israelite camp at Gilgal, where they said to Joshua and the men of Israel, “We have come from a country that is far from here. Please make a peace treaty with us.”
7-8 (A) The Israelites replied, “But maybe you really live near us. We can't make a peace treaty with you if you live nearby.”[a]
The Gibeonites[b] said, “If you make a peace treaty with us, we will be your servants.”
“Who are you?” Joshua asked. “Where do you come from?”
