The Lord said to Joshua, “Today I will begin to (A)exalt you in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, (B)as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. And as for you, command (C)the priests who bear the ark of the covenant, ‘When you come to the brink of the waters of the Jordan, (D)you shall stand still in the Jordan.’” And Joshua said to the people of Israel, “Come here and listen to the words of the Lord your God.” 10 And Joshua said, “Here is how you shall know that (E)the living God is among you and that he will without fail (F)drive out from before you the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Hivites, the Perizzites, the Girgashites, the Amorites, and the Jebusites. 11 Behold, the ark of the covenant of (G)the Lord of all the earth[a] (H)is passing over before you into the Jordan. 12 Now therefore (I)take twelve men from the tribes of Israel, (J)from each tribe a man. 13 And (K)when the soles of the feet of the priests bearing the ark of the Lord, (L)the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan shall be cut off from flowing, and the waters coming down from above shall (M)stand in one heap.”

14 So when the people set out from their tents to pass over the Jordan with the priests bearing (N)the ark of the covenant before the people, 15 and as soon as those bearing the ark had come as far as the Jordan, and (O)the feet of the priests bearing the ark were dipped in the brink of the water (now (P)the Jordan overflows all its banks (Q)throughout the time of harvest), 16 the waters coming down from above stood and rose up in a heap very far away, at Adam, the city that is beside (R)Zarethan, and those flowing down toward the Sea of (S)the Arabah, (T)the Salt Sea, were completely cut off. And the people passed over opposite Jericho. 17 Now the priests bearing the ark of the covenant of the Lord stood firmly on dry ground in the midst of the Jordan, (U)and all Israel was passing over on dry ground until all the nation finished passing over the Jordan.

Let the Redeemed of the Lord Say So

107 (A)Oh give thanks to the Lord, (B)for he is good,
    for his steadfast love endures forever!
Let (C)the redeemed of the Lord say so,
    whom he has (D)redeemed from trouble[a]
and (E)gathered in from the lands,
    from the east and from the west,
    from the north and from the south.

Some (F)wandered in desert wastes,
    finding no way (G)to a city to dwell in;
hungry and thirsty,
    their soul (H)fainted within them.
Then they (I)cried to the Lord in their trouble,
    and he delivered them from their distress.
He led them by (J)a straight way
    till they reached (K)a city to dwell in.

  1. Psalm 107:2 Or from the hand of the foe

33 He (A)turns rivers into a desert,
    springs of water into thirsty ground,
34 (B)a fruitful land into a salty waste,
    because of the evil of its inhabitants.
35 He (C)turns a desert into pools of water,
    (D)a parched land into springs of water.
36 And there he lets the hungry dwell,
    and they establish (E)a city to live in;
37 they sow fields and plant vineyards
    and get a fruitful yield.

For you remember, brothers, (A)our labor and toil: we (B)worked night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you, while we proclaimed to you the gospel of God. 10 You are witnesses, and (C)God also, (D)how holy and righteous and blameless was our conduct toward you believers. 11 For you know how, (E)like a father with his children, 12 we exhorted each one of you and encouraged you and (F)charged (G)you to walk in a manner worthy of God, (H)who calls you into his own kingdom and glory.

13 And (I)we also thank God constantly[a] for this, that when you received (J)the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it (K)not as the word of men[b] but as what it really is, the word of God, (L)which is at work in you believers.

Seven Woes to the Scribes and Pharisees

23 Then Jesus (A)said to the crowds and to his disciples, (B)“The scribes and the Pharisees (C)sit on Moses' seat, so do and observe whatever they tell you, (D)but not the works they do. (E)For they preach, but do not practice. (F)They tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear,[a] and lay them on people's shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to move them with their finger. (G)They do all their deeds (H)to be seen by others. For they make (I)their phylacteries broad and (J)their fringes long, and they (K)love the place of honor at feasts and (L)the best seats in the synagogues and (M)greetings in (N)the marketplaces and being called (O)rabbi[b] by others. (P)But you are not to be called rabbi, for you have one teacher, and you are (Q)all brothers.[c] (R)And call no man your father on earth, for (S)you have one Father, who is in heaven. 10 Neither be called instructors, for you have one instructor, (T)the Christ. 11 (U)The greatest among you shall be your servant. 12 (V)Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.
