The Allotment for Ephraim and Manasseh
16 The allotment of the people of Joseph went from the Jordan by Jericho, east of the waters of Jericho, (A)into the wilderness, going up from Jericho into the hill country to Bethel. 2 Then (B)going from Bethel to Luz, it passes along to Ataroth, the territory of the Archites. 3 Then it goes down westward to the territory of the Japhletites, as far as the territory of Lower (C)Beth-horon, then to (D)Gezer, and it ends at the sea.
4 (E)The people of Joseph, Manasseh and Ephraim, received their inheritance.
5 The territory of the people of Ephraim by their clans was as follows: the boundary of their inheritance on the east was (F)Ataroth-addar as far as Upper Beth-horon, 6 and the boundary goes from there to the sea. On the north is (G)Michmethath. Then on the east the boundary turns around toward Taanath-shiloh and passes along beyond it on the east to Janoah, 7 then it goes down from Janoah to Ataroth and (H)to Naarah, and touches Jericho, ending at the Jordan. 8 From (I)Tappuah the boundary goes westward to the brook Kanah and ends at the sea. Such is the inheritance of the tribe of the people of Ephraim by their clans, 9 together with (J)the towns that were set apart for the people of Ephraim within the inheritance of the Manassites, all those towns with their villages. 10 However, (K)they did not drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer, so the Canaanites have lived in the midst of Ephraim to this day but have been made (L)to do forced labor.
Joshua 17
English Standard Version
17 Then allotment was made to the people of Manasseh, for he was (A)the firstborn of Joseph. To (B)Machir the firstborn of Manasseh, the father of Gilead, (C)were allotted Gilead and Bashan, because he was a man of war. 2 And allotments were made (D)to the rest of the people of Manasseh by their clans, Abiezer, Helek, Asriel, Shechem, Hepher, and Shemida. These were the male descendants of Manasseh the son of Joseph, by their clans.
3 Now (E)Zelophehad the son of Hepher, son of Gilead, son of Machir, son of Manasseh, had no sons, but only daughters, and these are the names of his daughters: (F)Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. 4 They approached (G)Eleazar the priest and Joshua the son of Nun and the leaders and said, (H)“The Lord commanded Moses to give us an inheritance along with our brothers.” So according to the mouth of the Lord he gave them an inheritance among the brothers of their father. 5 Thus there fell to Manasseh ten portions, besides (I)the land of Gilead and Bashan, which is on the other side of the Jordan, 6 because the daughters of Manasseh received an inheritance along with his sons. The land of Gilead was allotted to the rest of the people of Manasseh.
7 The territory of Manasseh reached from Asher to (J)Michmethath, which is east of Shechem. Then the boundary goes along southward to the inhabitants of En-tappuah. 8 The land of (K)Tappuah belonged to Manasseh, but the town of Tappuah on the boundary of Manasseh belonged to the people of Ephraim. 9 (L)Then the boundary went down to the brook Kanah. These cities, to the south of the brook, among the cities of Manasseh, belong to Ephraim. Then the boundary of Manasseh goes on the north side of the brook and ends at the sea, 10 the land to the south being Ephraim's and that to the north being Manasseh's, with the sea forming its boundary. On the north Asher is reached, and on the east Issachar. 11 Also in Issachar and in Asher (M)Manasseh had Beth-shean and its villages, and Ibleam and its villages, and the inhabitants of (N)Dor and its villages, and the inhabitants of En-dor and its villages, and the inhabitants of (O)Taanach and its villages, and the inhabitants of (P)Megiddo and its villages; (Q)the third is Naphath.[a] 12 (R)Yet the people of Manasseh could not take possession of those cities, but the Canaanites persisted in dwelling in that land. 13 Now when the people of Israel grew strong, they put the Canaanites (S)to forced labor, but did not utterly drive them out.
14 Then (T)the people of Joseph spoke to Joshua, saying, “Why have you given me but (U)one lot and one portion as an inheritance, although I am (V)a numerous people, since all along the Lord has blessed me?” 15 And Joshua said to them, “If you are a numerous people, go up by yourselves to the forest, and there clear ground for yourselves in the land of the Perizzites and (W)the Rephaim, since (X)the hill country of Ephraim is too narrow for you.” 16 The people of Joseph said, “The hill country is not enough for us. Yet all the Canaanites who dwell in the plain have (Y)chariots of iron, both those in Beth-shean and its villages and those in (Z)the Valley of Jezreel.” 17 Then Joshua said to the house of Joseph, to Ephraim and Manasseh, “You are a numerous people and have great power. You shall not have one allotment only, 18 but the hill country shall be yours, for though it is a forest, you shall clear it and possess it to its farthest borders. For you shall drive out the Canaanites, (AA)though they have chariots of iron, and though they are strong.”

Practical Warnings
6 My son, if you have put up (A)security for your neighbor,
have (B)given your pledge for a stranger,
2 if you are (C)snared in the words of your mouth,
caught in the words of your mouth,
3 then do this, my son, and save yourself,
for you have come into the hand of your neighbor:
go, hasten,[a] and (D)plead urgently with your neighbor.
4 (E)Give your eyes no sleep
and your eyelids no slumber;
5 save yourself like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter,[b]
(F)like a bird from the hand of the fowler.
6 (G)Go to (H)the ant, O (I)sluggard;
consider her ways, and (J)be wise.
7 (K)Without having any chief,
(L)officer, or ruler,
8 she prepares her bread (M)in summer
and (N)gathers her food in harvest.
9 (O)How long will you lie there, (P)O sluggard?
When will you arise from your sleep?
10 (Q)A little sleep, a little slumber,
(R)a little (S)folding of the hands to rest,
11 (T)and poverty will come upon you like a robber,
and want like an armed man.
12 (U)A worthless person, a wicked man,
goes about with (V)crooked speech,
13 (W)winks with his eyes, signals[c] with his feet,
points with his finger,
14 with (X)perverted heart (Y)devises evil,
continually (Z)sowing discord;
15 therefore calamity will come upon him suddenly;
(AA)in a moment he will be broken (AB)beyond healing.
16 There are (AC)six things that the Lord hates,
(AD)seven that are an abomination to him:
17 (AE)haughty eyes, (AF)a lying tongue,
and (AG)hands that shed innocent blood,
18 (AH)a heart that devises wicked plans,
(AI)feet that make haste to run to evil,
19 (AJ)a false witness who (AK)breathes out lies,
and one who (AL)sows discord among brothers.
Warnings Against Adultery
20 (AM)My son, keep your father's commandment,
(AN)and forsake not your mother's teaching.
21 (AO)Bind them on your heart always;
(AP)tie them around your neck.
22 (AQ)When you walk, they[d] will lead you;
(AR)when you lie down, they will (AS)watch over you;
and when you awake, they will talk with you.
23 For the commandment is (AT)a lamp and the teaching a light,
and the (AU)reproofs of discipline are the way of life,
24 to preserve you from the evil woman,[e]
from the smooth tongue of (AV)the adulteress.[f]
25 (AW)Do not desire her beauty in your heart,
and do not let her capture you with her (AX)eyelashes;
26 for (AY)the price of a prostitute is only (AZ)a loaf of bread,[g]
but a married woman[h] (BA)hunts down a precious life.
27 Can a man carry (BB)fire next to his (BC)chest
and his clothes not be burned?
28 Or can one (BD)walk on hot coals
and his feet not be scorched?
29 So is he who goes in to his neighbor's wife;
none who touches her (BE)will go unpunished.
30 People do not despise a thief if he steals
to (BF)satisfy his appetite when he is hungry,
31 but (BG)if he is caught, he will pay (BH)sevenfold;
he will give all the goods of his house.
32 He who commits adultery lacks sense;
he who does it destroys himself.
33 He will get wounds and dishonor,
and his disgrace will not be wiped away.
34 For (BI)jealousy makes a man furious,
and he will not spare when (BJ)he takes revenge.
35 He will accept no compensation;
he will refuse though you multiply gifts.

English Standard Version
I Am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life
14 (A)“Let not your hearts be troubled. (B)Believe in God;[a] believe also in me. 2 In (C)my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that (D)I go to prepare a place for you?[b] 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you (E)to myself, that (F)where I am you may be also. 4 And you know the way to where I am going.”[c] 5 (G)Thomas said to him, “Lord, (H)we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to him, “I am (I)the way, and (J)the truth, and (K)the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 (L)If you had known me, you would have (M)known my Father also.[d] From now on you do know him and (N)have seen him.”
8 (O)Philip said to him, “Lord, (P)show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” 9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? (Q)Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that (R)I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you (S)I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works. 11 Believe me that (T)I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else (U)believe on account of the works themselves.
12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, (V)whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I (W)am going to the Father. 13 (X)Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that (Y)the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 (Z)If you ask me[e] anything in my name, I will do it.
Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit
15 (AA)“If you love me, you will (AB)keep my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another (AC)Helper,[f] to be with you forever, 17 even (AD)the Spirit of truth, (AE)whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and (AF)will be[g] in you.
18 “I will not leave you as orphans; (AG)I will come to you. 19 (AH)Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but (AI)you will see me. (AJ)Because I live, you also will live. 20 (AK)In that day you will know that (AL)I am in my Father, and (AM)you in me, and (AN)I in you. 21 (AO)Whoever has my commandments and (AP)keeps them, he it is who loves me. And (AQ)he who loves me (AR)will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and (AS)manifest myself to him.” 22 (AT)Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, “Lord, how is it (AU)that you will manifest yourself to us, and not to the world?” 23 Jesus answered him, (AV)“If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and (AW)we will come to him and (AX)make our home with him. 24 Whoever does not love me does not keep my words. And (AY)the word that you hear is not mine but the Father's who sent me.
25 “These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. 26 But the (AZ)Helper, the Holy Spirit, (BA)whom the Father will send in my name, (BB)he will teach you all things and (BC)bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. 27 (BD)Peace I leave with you; (BE)my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. (BF)Let not your hearts be troubled, neither (BG)let them be afraid. 28 (BH)You heard me say to you, (BI)‘I am going away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I (BJ)am going to the Father, for (BK)the Father is greater than I. 29 And (BL)now I have told you before it takes place, so that when it does take place you may believe. 30 I will no longer talk much with you, for (BM)the ruler of this world is coming. (BN)He has no claim on me, 31 but I do (BO)as the Father has commanded me, (BP)so that the world may know that I love the Father. Rise, let us go from here.
