¹² Now therefore ^(A)take twelve men from the tribes of Israel, ^(B)from each tribe a man.

The Twelve Apostles

10 ^(A)And he called to him his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every affliction. ^2 (B)The names of the twelve apostles are these: first, Simon, ^(C)who is called Peter, and ^(D)Andrew his brother; ^(E)James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; ³ Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and ^(F)Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus;^{[a] 4} Simon the Zealot,^[b] and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.

Jesus Sends Out the Twelve Apostles

^5 (G)These twelve Jesus sent out, instructing them, “Go nowhere among the Gentiles and enter no town of ^(H)the Samaritans,

³¹ Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of the Lord came, saying, ^(A)“Israel shall be your name,”

²³ The thing seemed good to me, and ^(A)I took twelve men from you, one man from each tribe.

¹⁸ You shall take one ^(A)chief from every tribe to divide the land for inheritance.

^2 (A)“Send men to spy out the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the people of Israel. From each tribe of their fathers you shall send a man, every one a chief among them.”

⁴ And there shall be with you a man from each tribe, each man being the head of the house of his fathers. ⁵ And these are the names of the men who shall assist you. From Reuben, ^(A)Elizur the son of Shedeur; ⁶ from Simeon, ^(B)Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai; ⁷ from Judah, ^(C)Nahshon the son of Amminadab; ⁸ from Issachar, ^(D)Nethanel the son of Zuar; ⁹ from Zebulun, ^(E)Eliab the son of Helon; ¹⁰ from the sons of Joseph, from Ephraim, ^(F)Elishama the son of Ammihud, and from Manasseh, ^(G)Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur; ¹¹ from Benjamin, ^(H)Abidan the son of Gideoni; ¹² from Dan, ^(I)Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai; ¹³ from Asher, ^(J)Pagiel the son of Ochran; ¹⁴ from Gad, Eliasaph the son of ^(K)Deuel; ¹⁵ from Naphtali, ^(L)Ahira the son of Enan.”
