Jonah 2

New Century Version

2 While Jonah was inside the fish, he prayed to the Lord his God and said,

²“When I was in danger,
    I called to the Lord,
    and he answered me.
I was about to die,
    so I cried to you,
    and you heard my voice.
³You threw me into the sea,
    down, down into the deep sea.
The water was all around me,
    and your powerful waves flowed over me.
⁴I said, ‘I was driven out of your presence,
    but I hope to see your Holy Temple again.’
⁵The waters of the sea closed around my throat.
    The deep sea was all around me;
    seaweed was wrapped around my head.
⁶When I went down to where the mountains of the sea start to rise,
    I thought I was locked in this prison forever,
but you saved me from the pit of death,
    Lord my God.

⁷“When my life had almost gone,
I remembered the Lord.
I prayed to you,
and you heard my prayers in your Holy Temple.

⁸“People who worship useless idols
    give up their loyalty to you.
⁹But I will praise and thank you
    while I give sacrifices to you,
    and I will keep my promises to you.
Salvation comes from the Lord!”

¹⁰Then the Lord spoke to the fish, and the fish threw up Jonah onto the dry land.

2 Then Jonah prayed unto the Lord his God out of the fish's belly,

²And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the Lord, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.

³For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.

⁴Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.

⁵The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head.

⁶I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O Lord my God.

⁷When my soul fainted within me I remembered the Lord: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.

⁸They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.

⁹But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.

¹⁰And the Lord spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.

Jonah's Prayer

2 Then Jonah prayed to the Lord his God from the belly of the fish, ²saying,

^(A)“I called out to the Lord, out of my distress,
    and he answered me;
^(B)out of the belly of Sheol I cried,
    ^(C)and you heard my voice.
³^(D)For you cast me into the deep,
    into the heart of the seas,
    and the flood surrounded me;
^(E)all your breakers and your waves
    passed over me.
⁴^(F)Then I said, ‘I am driven away
    from your sight;
^(G)yet I shall again look
    upon your holy temple.’
⁵^(H)The waters closed in over me ^(I)to take my life;
    the deep surrounded me;
weeds were wrapped about my head.
⁶To the roots of the mountains I went down,
    to the land whose bars closed upon me forever.
Yet you brought up my life from the pit,
    O Lord my God.
⁷When my life was fainting away,
    I remembered the Lord,
^(J)and my prayer came to you,
    into your holy temple.
⁸^(K)Those who pay regard to vain idols
    ^(L)forsake their hope of steadfast love.
⁹^(M)But I with the voice of thanksgiving
    will sacrifice to you;
what I have vowed I will pay.
    ^(N)Salvation belongs to the Lord!”

¹⁰And the Lord spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah out upon the dry land.

2 约拿在鱼腹中向他的上帝耶和华祷告说：

²“我遭遇患难的时候向你求告，
你就应允我。
我在阴间的深处呼求你，
你也垂听我的声音。
³你把我抛进深海，
茫茫大海把我吞没，
你的巨浪洪涛淹没我。
⁴我心想，你已经驱逐我离开你的面，
但我要再瞻仰你的圣殿。
⁵波涛环绕我，
深渊吞没我，
海草缠绕着我的头。
⁶我下沉到山的根基，
大地的门把我永远关住；
然而，我的上帝耶和华啊，
你却把我的性命从深坑中拯救出来。
⁷我的生命渐渐消逝的时候，
我就想起了耶和华。
我的祷告进入你的圣殿，
达到你面前。
⁸那些信奉虚无神明的人，
背弃了怜爱他们的主^[a]，
⁹但我要用感谢的声音向你献祭，
我必还我许的愿，
因为救恩来自耶和华。”
¹⁰于是，耶和华命令那条鱼，
