¹⁰ Then the men were even more afraid and said to him, “What is this that you have done!” For the men knew that he was fleeing from the presence of the Lord, because he had told them so.^(A)

³ But Jonah set out to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. He went down to Joppa and found a ship going to Tarshish; so he paid his fare and went on board, to go with them to Tarshish, away from the presence of the Lord.^(A)

⁸ Now when Pilate heard this, he was more afraid than ever.

⁶ Then the king’s face turned pale, and his thoughts terrified him. His limbs gave way, and his knees knocked together.^{(A) 7} The king cried aloud to bring in the enchanters, the Chaldeans, and the diviners, and the king said to the wise men of Babylon, “Whoever can read this writing and tell me its interpretation shall be clothed in purple, have a chain of gold around his neck, and rank third in the kingdom.”^{(B) 8} Then all the king’s wise men came in, but they could not read the writing or tell the king the interpretation.^{(C) 9} Then King Belshazzar became greatly terrified, and his face turned pale, and his lords were perplexed.^(D)

³ But Joab said to the king, “May the Lord your God increase the number of the people a hundredfold while the eyes of my lord the king can still see it! But why does my lord the king want to do this?”

²⁵ Joshua said, “Why did you bring trouble on us? The Lord is bringing trouble on you today.” And all Israel stoned him to death; they burned them with fire, cast stones on them,^(A)
