^33 (A)Then Pilate entered the ^[a]Praetorium again, called Jesus, and said to Him, “Are You the King of the Jews?”

³⁴ Jesus answered him, “Are you speaking for yourself about this, or did others tell you this concerning Me?”

³⁵ Pilate answered, “Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered You to me. What have You done?”

^36 (B)Jesus answered, ^(C)“My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here.”

³⁷ Pilate therefore said to Him, “Are You a king then?”

Jesus answered, “You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, ^(D)that I should bear ^(E)witness to the truth. Everyone who ^(F)is of the truth ^(G)hears My voice.”

³⁸ Pilate said to Him, “What is truth?” And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews, and said to them, ^(H)“I find no fault in Him at all.

Taking the Place of Barabbas^(I)

^39 (J)“But you have a custom that I should release someone to you at the Passover. Do you therefore want me to release to you the King of the Jews?”

^40 (K)Then they all cried again, saying, “Not this Man, but Barabbas!” ^(L)Now Barabbas was a robber.

^16 (A)For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten ^(B)Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. ^17 (C)For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

^18 (D)“He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. ¹⁹ And this is the condemnation, ^(E)that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

³³ For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”

^34 (A)Then they said to Him, “Lord, give us this bread always.”

³⁵ And Jesus said to them, ^(B)“I am the bread of life. ^(C)He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never ^(D)thirst.

⁵¹ I am the living bread ^(A)which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and ^(B)the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.”

²³ And He said to them, ^(A)“You are from beneath; I am from above. ^(B)You are of this world; I am not of this world. ^24 (C)Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; ^(D)for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.”

³⁶ do you say of Him ^(A)whom the Father sanctified and ^(B)sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ ^(C)because I said, ‘I am ^(D)the Son of God’?

⁴⁷ And if anyone hears My words and does not ^[a]believe, ^(A)I do not judge him; for ^(B)I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. ^48 (C)He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him—^(D)the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day.

The World’s Hatred

^18 (A)“If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. ^19 (B)If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet ^(C)because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.
