Jesus Heals a Man Born Blind
9 As He passed by, He saw a man blind from birth. 2 And His disciples asked Him, saying, “(A)Rabbi, who sinned, (B)this man or his (C)parents, that he would be born blind?” 3 Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but this was so (D)that the works of God might be manifested in him. 4 We must work the works of Him who sent Me (E)as long as it is day; night is coming when no one can work. 5 While I am in the world, I am (F)the light of the world.” 6 When He had said this, He (G)spat on the ground, made clay of the saliva, and rubbed the clay on his eyes, 7 and said to him, “Go, wash in (H)the pool of Siloam” (which is translated, Sent). So he went away and (I)washed, and (J)came back seeing. 8 Therefore the neighbors, and those who previously saw him as a beggar, were saying, “Is not this the one who used to (K)sit and beg?” 9 Others were saying, “This is he,” still others were saying, “No, but he is like him.” [a]He kept saying, “I am the one.” 10 So they were saying to him, “How then were your eyes opened?” 11 He answered, “The man who is called Jesus made clay, and rubbed my eyes, and said to me, ‘Go to (L)Siloam and wash’; so when I went away and washed, I received sight.” 12 And they said to him, “Where is He?” He *said, “I do not know.”
Controversy over the Man Born Blind
13 They *brought to the Pharisees the man who was formerly blind. 14 (M)Now it was a Sabbath on the day when Jesus made the clay and opened his eyes. 15 (N)So the Pharisees also were asking him again how he received his sight. And he said to them, “He applied clay to my eyes, and I washed, and I see.” 16 So then some of the Pharisees were saying, “This man is not from God, because He (O)does not keep the Sabbath.” But others were saying, “How can a sinful man do such [b](P)signs?” And (Q)there was a division among them. 17 Therefore, they *said to the blind man (R)again, “What do you say about Him, since He opened your eyes?” And he said, “He is a (S)prophet.”
18 (T)Then, the Jews did not believe it of him that he was blind and had received sight, until they called the parents of the very one who had received his sight, 19 and questioned them, saying, “Is this your son, who you say was born blind? Then how does he now see?” 20 So his parents answered and said, “We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind; 21 but how he now sees, we do not know; or who opened his eyes, we do not know. Ask him; he is of age, he will speak for himself.” 22 His parents said this because they (U)were afraid of the Jews; for the Jews (V)had already agreed that if anyone confessed Him to be [c]Christ, (W)he was to be put out of the synagogue. 23 For this reason his parents said, “(X)He is of age; ask him.”
24 Therefore, a second time they called the man who had been blind, and said to him, “(Y)Give glory to God; we know that (Z)this man is a sinner.” 25 He then answered, “Whether He is a sinner, I do not know; one thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see.” 26 So they said to him, “What did He do to you? How did He open your eyes?” 27 He answered them, “(AA)I told you already and you did not (AB)listen. Why do you want to listen again? Do you want to become His disciples too?” 28 And they reviled him and said, “You are His disciple, but (AC)we are disciples of Moses. 29 We know that God has spoken to Moses, but as for this man, (AD)we do not know where He is from.” 30 The man answered and said to them, “Well, here is a marvelous thing, that you do not know where He is from, and He opened my eyes. 31 We know that (AE)God does not listen to sinners; but if anyone is God-fearing and does His will, He listens to him. 32 [d]Since the beginning of time it has never been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a person born blind. 33 (AF)If this man were not from God, He could do nothing.” 34 They answered and said to him, “(AG)You were born entirely in sins, and are you teaching us?” So they (AH)put him out.
Jesus Affirms His Deity
35 Jesus heard that they had (AI)put him out, and after finding him, He said, “Do you believe in the (AJ)Son of Man?” 36 He answered and said, “(AK)Who is He, [e]Lord, that I may believe in Him?” 37 Jesus said to him, “You have both seen Him, and (AL)He is the one who is talking with you.” 38 And he said, “Lord, I believe.” And he (AM)worshiped Him. 39 And Jesus said, “(AN)For judgment I came into this world, so that (AO)those who do not see may see, and that (AP)those who see may become blind.” 40 Some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these things and said to Him, “(AQ)Are we blind too?” 41 Jesus said to them, “(AR)If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now that you say, ‘(AS)We see,’ your sin remains.

9 E, passando Jesus, viu um homem cego de nascença. 2 E os seus discípulos lhe perguntaram, dizendo: Rabi, quem pecou, este ou seus pais, para que nascesse cego? 3 Jesus respondeu: Nem ele pecou, nem seus pais; mas foi assim para que se manifestem nele as obras de Deus. 4 Convém que eu faça as obras daquele que me enviou, enquanto é dia; a noite vem, quando ninguém pode trabalhar. 5 Enquanto estou no mundo, sou a luz do mundo. 6 Tendo dito isso, cuspiu na terra, e, com a saliva, fez lodo, e untou com o lodo os olhos do cego. 7 E disse-lhe: Vai, lava-te no tanque de Siloé (que significa o Enviado). Foi, pois, e lavou-se, e voltou vendo. 8 Então, os vizinhos e aqueles que dantes tinham visto que era cego diziam: Não é este aquele que estava assentado e mendigava? 9 Uns diziam: É este. E outros: Parece-se com ele. Ele dizia: Sou eu. 10 Diziam-lhe, pois: Como se te abriram os olhos? 11 Ele respondeu e disse-lhes: O homem chamado Jesus fez lodo, e untou-me os olhos, e disse-me: Vai ao tanque de Siloé e lava-te. Então, fui, e lavei-me, e vi. 12 Disseram-lhe, pois: Onde está ele? Respondeu: Não sei.
13 Levaram, pois, aos fariseus o que dantes era cego. 14 E era sábado quando Jesus fez o lodo e lhe abriu os olhos. 15 Tornaram, pois, também os fariseus a perguntar-lhe como vira, e ele lhes disse: Pôs-me lodo sobre os olhos, lavei-me e vejo. 16 Então, alguns dos fariseus diziam: Este homem não é de Deus, pois não guarda o sábado. Diziam outros: Como pode um homem pecador fazer tais sinais? E havia dissensão entre eles. 17 Tornaram, pois, a dizer ao cego: Tu que dizes daquele que te abriu os olhos? E ele respondeu: Que é profeta.
18 Os judeus, porém, não creram que ele tivesse sido cego e que agora visse, enquanto não chamaram os pais do que agora via. 19 E perguntaram-lhes, dizendo: É este o vosso filho, que vós dizeis ter nascido cego? Como, pois, vê agora? 20 Seus pais responderam e disseram-lhes: Sabemos que este é nosso filho e que nasceu cego, 21 mas como agora vê não sabemos; ou quem lhe tenha aberto os olhos não sabemos; tem idade; perguntai-lho a ele mesmo, e ele falará por si mesmo. 22 Seus pais disseram isso, porque temiam os judeus, porquanto já os judeus tinham resolvido que, se alguém confessasse ser ele o Cristo, fosse expulso da sinagoga. 23 Por isso, é que seus pais disseram: Tem idade; perguntai-lho a ele mesmo.
24 Chamaram, pois, pela segunda vez o homem que tinha sido cego e disseram-lhe: Dá glória a Deus; nós sabemos que esse homem é pecador. 25 Respondeu ele, pois, e disse: Se é pecador, não sei; uma coisa sei, e é que, havendo eu sido cego, agora vejo. 26 E tornaram a dizer-lhe: Que te fez ele? Como te abriu os olhos? 27 Respondeu-lhes: Já vo-lo disse e não ouvistes; para que o quereis tornar a ouvir? Quereis vós, porventura, fazer-vos também seus discípulos? 28 Então, o injuriaram e disseram: Discípulo dele sejas tu; nós, porém, somos discípulos de Moisés. 29 Nós bem sabemos que Deus falou a Moisés, mas este não sabemos de onde é. 30 O homem respondeu e disse-lhes: Nisto, pois, está a maravilha: que vós não saibais de onde ele é e me abrisse os olhos. 31 Ora, nós sabemos que Deus não ouve a pecadores; mas, se alguém é temente a Deus e faz a sua vontade, a esse ouve. 32 Desde o princípio do mundo, nunca se ouviu que alguém abrisse os olhos a um cego de nascença. 33 Se este não fosse de Deus, nada poderia fazer. 34 Responderam eles e disseram-lhe: Tu és nascido todo em pecados e nos ensinas a nós? E expulsaram-no.
35 Jesus ouviu que o tinham expulsado e, encontrando-o, disse-lhe: Crês tu no Filho de Deus? 36 Ele respondeu e disse: Quem é ele, Senhor, para que nele creia? 37 E Jesus lhe disse: Tu já o tens visto, e é aquele que fala contigo. 38 Ele disse: Creio, Senhor. E o adorou. 39 E disse-lhe Jesus: Eu vim a este mundo para juízo, a fim de que os que não veem vejam e os que veem sejam cegos. 40 Aqueles dos fariseus que estavam com ele, ouvindo isso, disseram-lhe: Também nós somos cegos? 41 Disse-lhes Jesus: Se fôsseis cegos, não teríeis pecado; mas como agora dizeis: Vemos, por isso, o vosso pecado permanece.

9 And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.
2 And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?
3 Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.
4 I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.
5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
6 When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,
7 And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.
8 The neighbours therefore, and they which before had seen him that he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged?
9 Some said, This is he: others said, He is like him: but he said, I am he.
10 Therefore said they unto him, How were thine eyes opened?
11 He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight.
12 Then said they unto him, Where is he? He said, I know not.
13 They brought to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind.
14 And it was the sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.
15 Then again the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and do see.
16 Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them.
17 They say unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, that he hath opened thine eyes? He said, He is a prophet.
18 But the Jews did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight.
19 And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? how then doth he now see?
20 His parents answered them and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind:
21 But by what means he now seeth, we know not; or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: he is of age; ask him: he shall speak for himself.
22 These words spake his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man did confess that he was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.
23 Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him.
24 Then again called they the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner.
25 He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.
26 Then said they to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes?
27 He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: wherefore would ye hear it again? will ye also be his disciples?
28 Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are Moses' disciples.
29 We know that God spake unto Moses: as for this fellow, we know not from whence he is.
30 The man answered and said unto them, Why herein is a marvellous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened mine eyes.
31 Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.
32 Since the world began was it not heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind.
33 If this man were not of God, he could do nothing.
34 They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.
35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?
36 He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him?
37 And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee.
38 And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.
39 And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.
40 And some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, Are we blind also?
41 Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.

Jesus Gives Sight to a Blind Man
9 As Yeshua walked along, he saw a man who had been born blind. 2 His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, why was this man born blind? Did he or his parents sin?”
3 Yeshua answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned. Instead, he was born blind so that God could show what he can do for him. 4 We must do what the one who sent me wants us to do while it is day. The night when no one can do anything is coming. 5 As long as I’m in the world, I’m light for the world.”
6 After Yeshua said this, he spit on the ground and mixed the spit with dirt. Then he smeared it on the man’s eyes 7 and told him, “Wash it off in the pool of Siloam.” (Siloam means “sent.”) The blind man washed it off and returned. He was able to see.
8 His neighbors and those who had previously seen him begging asked, “Isn’t this the man who used to sit and beg?”
9 Some of them said, “He’s the one.” Others said, “No, he isn’t, but he looks like him.” But the man himself said, “I am the one.”
10 So they asked him, “How did you receive your sight?”
11 He replied, “The man people call Yeshua mixed some spit with dirt, smeared it on my eyes, and told me, ‘Go to Siloam, and wash it off.’ So I went there, washed it off, and received my sight.”
12 They asked him, “Where is that man?”
The man answered, “I don’t know.”
13 Some people brought the man who had been blind to the Pharisees. 14 The day when Yeshua mixed the spit and dirt and gave the man sight was a day of worship. 15 So the Pharisees asked the man again how he received his sight.
The man told the Pharisees, “He put a mixture of spit and dirt on my eyes. I washed it off, and now I can see.”
16 Some of the Pharisees said, “The man who did this is not from God because he doesn’t follow the traditions for the day of worship.” Other Pharisees asked, “How can a man who is a sinner perform miracles like these?” So the Pharisees were divided in their opinions.
17 They asked the man who had been born blind another question: “What do you say about the man who gave you sight?”
The man answered, “He’s a prophet.”
18 Until they talked to the man’s parents, the Jews didn’t believe that the man had been blind and had been given sight. 19 They asked his parents, “Is this your son, the one you say was born blind? Why can he see now?”
20 His parents replied, “We know that he’s our son and that he was born blind. 21 But we don’t know how he got his sight or who gave it to him. You’ll have to ask him. He’s old enough to answer for himself.” 22 (His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jews. The Jews had already agreed to put anyone who acknowledged that Yeshua was the Christ out of the synagogue. 23 That’s why his parents said, “You’ll have to ask him. He’s old enough.”)
24 So once again the Jews called the man who had been blind. They told him, “Give glory to God. We know that this man who gave you sight is a sinner.”
25 The man responded, “I don’t know if he’s a sinner or not. But I do know one thing. I used to be blind, but now I can see.”
26 The Jews asked him, “What did he do to you? How did he give you sight?”
27 The man replied, “I’ve already told you, but you didn’t listen. Why do you want to hear the story again? Do you want to become his disciples too?”
28 The Jews yelled at him, “You’re his disciple, but we’re Moses’ disciples. 29 We know that God spoke to Moses, but we don’t know where this man came from.”
30 The man replied to them, “That’s amazing! You don’t know where he’s from. Yet, he gave me sight. 31 We know that God doesn’t listen to sinners. Instead, he listens to people who are devout and who do what he wants. 32 Since the beginning of time, no one has ever heard of anyone giving sight to a person born blind. 33 If this man were not from God, he couldn’t do anything like that.”
34 The Jews answered him, “You were born full of sin. Do you think you can teach us?” Then they threw him out of the synagogue.
35 Yeshua heard that the Jews had thrown the man out of the synagogue. So when Yeshua found the man, he asked him, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?”
36 The man replied, “Sir, tell me who he is so that I can believe in him.”
37 Yeshua told him, “You’ve seen him. He is the person who is now talking with you.”
38 The man bowed in front of Yeshua and said, “I believe, Lord.”
39 Then Yeshua said, “I have come into this world to judge: Blind people will be given sight, and those who can see will become blind.”
40 Some Pharisees who were with Yeshua heard this. So they asked him, “Do you think we’re blind?”
41 Yeshua told them, “If you were blind, you wouldn’t be sinners. But now you say, ‘We see,’ so you continue to be sinners.
